Chapter 149: A Necklace of Dreams

The next day, Jennifer woke up feeling motivated and determined. The necklace's mystery constantly pulled at her thoughts, pushing her to investigate further.

After searching through her drawers, she eventually picked up a leather-bound diary hidden under a stack of papers. Isabella's initials were embossed on the cover, while the pages featured tidy, graceful handwriting. Jennifer made herself comfortable in a luxurious armchair and started reading.

In the diary it read "January 12th of the year 2021. Today, I put on the necklace after not wearing it for years. I sensed a peculiar bond, as though it was beckoning me. I never believed my mother's claim about the family heirloom having mysterious powers until that moment."

Jennifer's heart raced as she continued reading. Isabella's entries grew more detailed, describing her experiences with the necklace.

Jennifer turned to the next page and read "February 5, 2021. The visions are becoming more frequent. Initially, before, they were simply glimpses, but now they seem incredibly real. I briefly saw moments from the lives of my ancestors, feeling their joy and sorrow. This is a lot of information to take in, but I still want to learn more. The necklace is not just a jewel; it acts as a link to the past."

Jennifer's eyes grew larger. The dreams she had been having were not just dreams; they were peeks into Isabella's past, triggered by the necklace's enigmatic ability. She needed to understand more.

She flipped through the diary, hoping to find additional insights. Another entry provided more context.

" on March 3, 2021. I've discovered that the necklace responds to my emotions. Strong feelings of love, fear, or anger can trigger the visions. I must learn to control my emotions to manage these glimpses into the past. Meditation helps, but it's still a struggle. But I wonder what happens if I switch places with another person, what will happen to my body."

Jennifer's mind raced with questions. Why had she never thought to ask what happened to Isabella? She had to find out where her body was. Determined, she left her room and headed down the grand staircase to the main hall, her footsteps echoing in the vast space.

She spotted Maria, one of the maids, dusting an ornate vase near the entrance.

"Maria, can I ask you something?" Jennifer began, her voice a little hesitant.

Maria turned, a look of surprise crossing her face. "Of course, Miss Jennifer. What do you need?"

Jennifer bit her lip. "I was wondering if I could take a car out. I have some... personal errands to run."

Maria's eyes widened. "Miss Jennifer, you don't need to ask me for permission. You have a whole garage full of exotic cars at your disposal."

Jennifer blinked. "I... I do?"

Maria smiled kindly. "Yes, of course. Let me call a driver to take you to the garage."

A few minutes later, a sleek black car pulled up, driven by Marco, the family chauffeur. He stepped out and opened the door for Jennifer. "To the garage, Miss Jennifer?"

"Yes, thank you, Marco," Jennifer said, still processing the fact that she had access to a garage full of cars.

Marco drove her to the mansion's garage, a massive structure separate from the main house. As they entered, Jennifer's jaw dropped. Rows upon rows of gleaming cars, from classic beauties to modern speedsters, filled the space.

"Wow," she whispered, walking among the vehicles.

"Impressive, isn't it?" Marco said with a smile. "Choose anyone you like. They're all at your disposal."

Sophia squinted her eyes upon seeing Jennifer. "Hmm, hmm, hmm. Well if it isn't the one and only daughter of the man that killed my father. Here to take more from us, I see. " Her voice dripped with sarcasm.

Jennifer offered a tentative smile. "Hi, Sophia. I was just-"

"Save it, Isabella," Sophia snapped, cutting her off. "Or should I say Jennifer? Whatever. Just because Victoria is playing nice doesn't mean we all will."

Jennifer's heart sank. "Sophia, I'm not trying to cause any trouble. I just needed to go out for a bit."

Sophia laughed, a sharp, harsh sound. "Go out? In one of our cars? Do you even know how to drive something like that?" She glanced at her friends, who snickered in response.

Jennifer took a deep breath. "I do, actually. And I'm not here to take anything from you."

Sophia's expression darkened. "Oh, is that so? Fine. Let's talk about how your precious Bennett family were responsible for my father's death."

Jennifer's eyes widened. "I... I don't know what you're talking about."

"Of course you don't," Sophia spat. "You Bennett people think you're so high and mighty. But your family's greed and lies ruined us. My father died because of you!"

Jennifer shook her head, feeling a knot form in her stomach. "That's not true, Sophia. I don't know what happened, but I'm sure-"

"You're sure of nothing!" Sophia shouted, stepping closer. "You think you can just waltz in here and everything will be fine? I swear, I'll make your life a living nightmare in this household."

Jennifer flinched at the venom in Sophia's words. "Sophia, please. I just want to understand what happened."

"You want to understand? Sophia smirked. "You will never understand. And don't even get any idea that you are apart of the family. You may have deceived Victoria, but I can see past your lies."

Tears threatened to spill from Jennifer's eyes, but she managed to control them. I am not trying to deceive anyone. "I just want to know the truth just like you."

Sophia made a gesture of annoyance with her eyes. "What truth? The fact is, you are a Bennett. That is all I need to know. Now, get lost before I make you regret ever showing up here."

Jennifer agreed by nodding her head and visibly struggled to swallow. "I'm sorry if that is how you feel, Sophia. But, I am not going anywhere."

Sophia gave her a harsh look before turning to her friends. "Let's go guys, I can't stand looking at her."

After Sophia and her group departed, Jennifer reclined in the Ferrari, clutching her sweet belt firmly. She felt a mix of anger, sadness, and confusion in her mind. However, it was obvious: she must uncover the truth about Isabella and her family, no matter the cost.

Marco, who had a concerned look on his face, asked "Are you okay ma'am."

Jennifer gained composure and smiled "Yeah, thanks for asking."

Marco smiled and responded, "Don't mind missing Sophia, she is just the sensitive type of all."

Marco ignited the engine and drove out of the garage. Jennifer was feeling a strong sense of determination in her chest. She had a mission now, and she wouldn't let Sophia or anyone else stand in her way.
