Chapter 145: Lost in Dreams

Upon waking up, Jennifer discovered she was in a surreal world where reality and illusion were woven together seamlessly. Standing in a vibrant field, she breathed in the fragrance of blossoming flowers around her. In front of her, she spotted a little girl, who couldn't be older than six, seated beneath a huge oak tree. Seated next to her, the woman, likely her mother, held a storybook.

"Isabella, are you prepared for tonight's story?" the mother inquired, her voice calm and comforting.

"Yes, Mama! Tell me about the two lost girls again!" the young Isabella replied, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

The mother smiled as she opened the book, gently running her fingers over the intricate illustrations. In a distant land, there were two girls lost in their own separate worlds long ago. A princess named Elara resided in a magnificent castle yet felt confined by her responsibilities as royalty. Another was a village girl named Lyria, who wandered through the forests in search of a place where she felt she fit in.

Jennifer was captivated as she observed the unfolding scene. Isabella, the young girl, was captivated by the story, and it struck a chord with her.

"The mother went on to say that Elara possessed a special necklace that had been handed down for many generations, with magical powers." It was claimed that the necklace had the power to lead the person wearing it to their genuine fate.

One day, Elara ventured into the forest, feeling the pull of the necklace. There, she met Lyria, who had been drawn to the same spot by a similar feeling."

"Did they become friends?" Isabella asked eagerly, her eyes wide with wonder.

"Yes, they did," the mother replied. "Despite their different backgrounds, Elara and Lyria felt an instant connection. They realized that the necklaces they wore were two halves of a whole, meant to bring them together. Through their bond, they found the courage to face their fears and discover their true paths."

There was a strange feeling of déjà vu that Jennifer experienced while she listened to the story. Attempting to move nearer to listen better, she found the view disappearing, giving way to a poorly illuminated sitting room. She noticed a fifteen-year-old Isabella, who was a teenager, sitting on a couch with her knees pulled up to her chest.

The atmosphere was tense as a heated argument broke out in the adjacent room.

Johnathan, it is important for you to dedicate more time to your daughter! Isabella's mother yelled, her voice shaking with irritation.

"I am doing all that is within my power for this family!" Johnathan Bennett shouted in return, his face flushed with fury. "You won't understand!" "You're constantly finding fault in everything I do!"

Isabella winced at every unkind word, tears welling up in her eyes. She held onto the necklace on her neck, looking for solace in its comforting heaviness.

Jennifer felt a deep pain in her heart for the young girl. She observed the impact of the ongoing conflicts on Isabella's feeling of safety and tranquility. Once more, the setting changed, and Jennifer discovered she was now on a university campus.

Isabella, now older and more composed, walked across the quad with a young man beside her. He had a warm smile and kind eyes.

"Isaac, do you really think we can make this work?" Isabella asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

"Of course, Bella," Isaac replied, taking her hand. "We'll figure it out together. I love you."

Jennifer could see the love in Isabella's eyes, the way she looked at Isaac with a mixture of hope and fear. But just as quickly, the scene changed once more.

Johnathan Bennett stood in his study, his face stern and uncompromising. "You will not see him again, Isabella. He's not right for you."

"But Father, I love him!" Isabella pleaded, her voice breaking.

"Love isn't enough!" Johnathan snapped. "You have responsibilities, and he doesn't fit into our plans."

Isabella's face crumpled with despair, and Jennifer felt her own heart break at the sight. She wanted to reach out, to comfort her, but the scene dissolved into darkness.

When the light returned, Jennifer saw Isabella, now twenty-one, standing in a dimly lit room filled with strange artifacts and trinkets. Across from her stood an enigmatic woman with piercing eyes and an air of mystery.

"You've come a long way, Isabella," the woman said, her voice smooth and hypnotic. "I've been expecting you."

"Are you Serena?" Isabella asked, her voice trembling.

"Yes, child. And I know why you're here. You seek answers about your past, about the necklace you wear."

Isabella nodded, her eyes wide with anticipation and so was Jennifer, as she was about to find out what and where the necklace came for and what power it holds.

But as Jennifer was about to find out why Serena gave Isabella the necklace, she woke up.

She sits up yelling "Isabella!" as she pants heavily. Her face was sweating, and a warm towel was on her forehead.

She looked around as she was surrounded by paramedics, some maids and Alexander, who had a worried look on his face.

"Dang it, you've only been here for a couple of days, how could you have fallen sick so fast?"

Jennifer looked confused, unable to respond. The jolt of the situation was still dawning on her. She did not fully understand what she had just seen, she wondered if she was slowly gaining Isabella's memories.

"Hey!" Johnathan's voice jolted Jennifer, and gained her attention. "What the heck happened, the maid came screaming that you passed out. Care to explain."

Jennifer gained composure. She knew she had to answer Alexander before things escalated further. "It was…. uhm, nothing. I just fell, and I passed out I guess."

"You guess?" Alexander asked with a look of annoyance in his face.

The doctor cut the conversation short. "I think it best we let her rest. She's had a stressful time. We should let her recover."

With that everyone went out, leaving Isabella to herself as she wondered who Madam Serena was.
