Chapter 142: A Mischievous Plan

At the Romano Mansion in Alexander's Study

Alexander sat behind his father's massive oak desk, his hands steepled in front of him. Lucas leaned against the window, looking out over the vast estate, while Victoria and Sophia sat on the plush chairs opposite Alexander.

Sophia broke the tense silence. "What are we going to do, Alex? People are saying we're responsible for Johnathan Bennett's death."

Victoria nodded. "We need to clear our name. This could ruin us."

Alexander sighed. "We need to stay calm. The Bennetts are grieving and looking for someone to blame. We have to be strategic."

Lucas turned from the window, his expression grim. "Strategic how? They're not going to listen to reason."

Alexander looked at his siblings, his eyes filled with determination. "We need to gather our own evidence. Find out who really killed Johnathan. And we need to be prepared for anything the Bennetts might throw at us."

Sophia frowned. "But how do we do that? We don't even know where to start."

Victoria leaned forward. "We start by tightening our security and watching our own backs. And we need to reach out to our allies. We can't do this alone."

Lucas nodded. "And we keep an eye on the Bennetts. They're likely planning something. We need to be ready."

Just as they were deep in their conversation. The doorbell rang, and the Romano siblings exchanged puzzled looks. Alexander got up and opened the door to reveal a middle-aged man in a sharp suit holding a briefcase.

"Mr. Romano," the man said, extending his hand. "I'm Michael Hayes, the Bennetts' lawyer. May I come in?"

Alexander frowned but stepped aside. "Of course. What brings you here, Mr. Hayes?"

Hayes walked in, his expression serious. "I have some important information regarding your late father, Charles Romano."

Sophia glanced at Victoria, her brow furrowed. "What kind of information?"

Hayes opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of documents. "It appears that before his death, Charles Romano signed off on a deal that hasn't been disclosed to you yet. It involves the future bride of Alexander."

Alexander's eyes widened. "What kind of deal?"

Hayes adjusted his glasses. "Your father's shares of the company. They are to be transferred to your future bride upon your marriage. This was agreed upon in a private arrangement with Johnathan Bennett."

Victoria gasped. "What? Why would he do that?"

Lucas stepped forward, his face a mix of confusion and anger. "That doesn't make any sense. Why would our father tie his shares to Alexander's marriage?"

Hayes handed the documents to Alexander. "It was a strategic move, meant to solidify the alliance between the Bennetts and the Romanos. But with Johnathan's death, things have become... complicated."

Sophia looked at Alexander, her eyes wide. "What are we going to do, Alex?"

Alexander scanned the documents, his mind racing. "We need to verify this. Make sure it's legitimate. And we need to figure out how to handle this without giving the Bennetts any more leverage."

Victoria nodded. "This changes everything. We need to be very careful about our next steps."

Lucas clenched his fists. "First we clear our name, then we deal with this new complication

Alexander was quiet for a while, then he stood up with an aura of determination in him. "Then we have to go in with the wedding."

Lucas was shocked "Are you sure that is the best option right now? Plus knowing James do you think he will still let his sister get married to you."

Alexander responded I don't know but we have to try, right now it is the only way to clear our name."

Victoria stood up and said "But what about fathers will? It says your wife gets his shares, which means the Bennett girl will get dad's shares once she is married to you."

Mr. Heyes chimes in "Well actually, she only claims the shares if she gives birth to Charles's grandchild. That was the central point of his will."

"Perfect," Alexander exclaimed. " Even if I marry her I will make sure not to get her pregnant and along her way I can finally find out if they are truly behind Dad's death."

Beckett Residence, James's Office

James Beckett sat behind his desk, a map of the city spread out before him. His twin cousins, Mark and Richard, hovered nearby, their expressions tense.

James tapped a finger on the map. "We need to hit them where it hurts. Their businesses, their allies, everything."

Mark nodded. "We've got insiders in their shipping division. We could start there, disrupt their supply chain."

Richard smirked. "Or we could leak information to their competitors. Make them scramble to keep up."

James leaned back, considering. "Both good ideas. But we need something bigger. Something that will cripple them."

Mark frowned. "Bigger how? What are you thinking?"

James's eyes gleamed with a dangerous light. "We need to sabotage their biggest project. The new development in the South District. If we can delay it, or better yet, derail it entirely, it'll cost them millions."

Richard whistled. "That's ambitious. But how do we pull it off?"

James grinned. "We have a contact in the city planning office. With the right pressure, they can delay the permits indefinitely. And we can plant evidence of environmental violations. Make it look like the Romanos are cutting corners."

Mark exchanged a glance with Richard. "That's risky. If we get caught-"

James cut him off. "We won't get caught. We're smarter than that. We will play our cards right, and the Romanos will be too busy putting out fires to come after us. Plus they are all just advances to throw them off from suspecting why I would agree to the wedding of my sister to Alexander so quickly after my Dad's death."

Downtown Penthouse, Marcus Lee's Study

Marcus Lee stood by the window, looking out over the city. His associate, a slick man named Trevor, sat at the desk, reviewing documents.

Trevor looked up. "Both families are in chaos, just as you planned. What's the next move?"

Marcus turned a cold smile on his lips. "We leverage their weaknesses. The Bennett boy is hotheaded. He'll make mistakes. We just need to push him in the right direction."

Trevor nodded. "And the Romanos?"

Marcus's smile widened. "They're more cautious. But they have a lot to lose. We need to create a situation where they have no choice but to come to us for help."

Trevor frowned. "How do we do that?"

Marcus walked over to the desk, tapping a finger on a folder. "We exploit their financial vulnerabilities. Buy up their debts, and control their creditors. When the time is right, we call in the loans. They'll be desperate, and desperation makes people do foolish things."

Trevor's eyes gleamed. "And once we have them on their knees?"

Marcus's voice was ice-cold. "We take everything. The companies, the properties, the power. They'll have no choice but to bow to us."
