CHAPTER 12
AILA
A month. We’ve been married for a month now and yet Caelon insisted that we still stretch the honeymoon phase for another week.
Caelon is easy to understand for he mostly keep to himself and lavish me when it is night. He enjoyed my body as much as I enjoyed his. Sometimes, he makes me think that all he wanted was my body and the pleasure I provide him. Thinking about it makes me sad. I know that he is not capable of reciprocating the feelings that I have and I know that it is wrong that I am keeping my feelings from him but I cannot do anything.
I have fallen for him. Hard.
I am well aware that I will be hurt once all of this is done which is why I tried to enjoy myself, treasuring every moment as though it will be my last. After all, this proposal is for the benefit of the both of us and though reluctant, Caelon tried his hardest to be the ideal husband to me, even if begrudgingly.
He cooks. He takes me places. He lavish me with clothes, feeds me with exquisite food. He helps me experience the best life here on earth and for that, I am thankful. I couldn’t ask for more when I know that this is more than he could possibly give.
I enjoyed our time in Japan, especially when he brought me to the factories of chocolates and trinkets that ladies liked. Caelon was a women pleaser and an eye candy. Everywhere he went, the women swarm at him and marvel at him while I am momentarily kicked on the side, watching my ‘husband’ as he ‘entertains’ his devoted fans.
Oh well.
Caelon lets me escape the first time we go to the market place. He allows me to get away from his crazy fans while he gets stuck there, feeding upon their fascination though recently, that is not the case. Caelon started to cling upon me and won’t let me brush with other guys nor interact or talk with them. He is avoiding his fans and have confined us in the cabin. He became overly possessive of me, and territorial. He wants me on his bed in every chance he gets and I am loving this side of him.
So much that I forgot about my mission and why I am here on earth.
“Caelon?” He frowns in his sleep, an eye blinking open as he regarded me with a sleepy gaze, “Caelon, can we go back to Paris this weekend? I really need to finish my mission.” He grunted, burying his face in the pillow as he turns away from me. I caressed his shoulders and put a pressure behind his back, making him hiss. Caelon pulls away from my touch and groans, “Alright, just don’t,” I smiled as he gritted his teeth and held out his hand, “Don’t do that again.”
“What do you mean?”
“That, ugh!” he pulls at his hair and sighs, “Stop tickling me.” I smiled. “I’m serious, Aila. I’ll get you back with this.” He muttered before standing up from the bed and leaving me in the room.
I stretched my arms and look at Caelon as he emerged out of the bathroom with a coat on. I frown, “Caelon, why are you dressed like that. It’s not—” The wind shifted and the room transitions to a large forest where water continuously pour down on us, “Raining.” I huffed. “ Okay, why did you take me here?”
He smirks, leaving me soaked in the rain as he walks freely, trekking up the hill. The rain continue to fall and I am drenched by the time we reach the cabin where he finally faced me, “Hmm, you look better with your hair framing the sides of your face like that.”
“I look like a soaked broom, Caelon, it’s-ss n-not fu-funny!” I shivered and push him out of the way as I entered the cabin. The interior was very warm and I rejoiced of the fire crackling at the corner. I didn’t care if I have left a trail of puddle, it was his fault that I am dripping wet.
I am too occupied of warming myself that when I turn around, Caelon was nowhere to be seen. I got up from the floor and search the rooms only to find him in the kitchen, a pot boiling from the stove while he chops the herbs. “Change your clothes then come back here. This is better than the pasta you had before at the plaza.”
I followed his command and hastily return to the kitchen where he now sat, waiting for me. He pointed at the seat across him and I took it, tentatively. “Taste for yourself. Tell me if this is better than what you had.” I raised an eyebrow at his statement, taking the fork from his hand and twirling it on the pasta.
The moment the food entered my mouth was absolutely incredible. I couldn’t take my eyes off Caelon as he smirked, an additional spice to the delectable meal I am already eating.
“This is so good!” I muttered, in between mouth full, “Did you put some allurements on this one because I am sure that a pasta shouldn’t be this outstanding!” He rolled his eyes at me and take a napkin off the cob, wiping the sides of my lips.
“You never change, do you? You still lack the etiquette of a prim and proper cupid.” I snorted and he continue, “I do not know why I have offered you marriage when you couldn’t even eat like a lady.”
I snatch the napkin from his hand and viciously wipe my face with it. “I am not a lady and I am definitely not entitled as to why you would chose me to be your wife for you are the one who offered me and I simply accepted.” i crossed my arms, “Besides, you were as petty as any banished cupid considering that you are only securing yourself a wife after a millennia.”
Caelon’s eyes widened at my statement before he cleared his throat. “Alright, you win. Honestly, I didn’t put anything in that pasta. Years of cooking for Emyr made me a chef and I am proud to say that I learned on my own.” He ran his hands through his hair and smiled at me. I sigh. “While you are eating, I shall repeat to you the clause of our arrangement in this special relationship we have.”
I swallowed the food and looked at him with intent, realizing how serious the discussion will be. Caelon produces a piece of paper and slide it over to me, “Three months. Consider this relationship as a three month contract. I will help you with your mission and find your parents and after that, we shall say goodbye to each other. Never to cross paths again, alright?”
What? Three months? I didn’t voice out my thoughts as I stared at Caelon, his eyes unblinking as he match my gaze with his icy blue stare. How can he be so insensitive? After all that he has done with me, he will only discard me after three months, with no desire of ever crossing paths again? But a month has passed, so only two months? All that, then nothing? I sigh, trying to compose myself and hide my emotions from his scrutiny. I get that he has voluntarily offered me this benefit where he will help me find my parent in exchange of being his wife, but what about the emotions? The feelings we shared? The memories we had?
Was it all for nothing?
We are only married for a month and I already feel like I have lost him, as though I am being cheated here. Even though he appears to be concerned on my part, there is an underlying reason why he decided to marry and use me. Whatever that is, I am not sure if I wanted to find out or not.
I slide the paper back to him, “It’s too early and three months is so short. We already spent a month on our own which leaves us with two months. What if we cannot find them by then?” Caelon raised an eyebrow and took the paper, “You don’t trust me, Aila?”
I got up from my seat and nodded at him, “Yes, I don’t. I hate you.” I muttered the last word but it seems that Caelon have heard it, his hands balling into fist.
The knock from the door startled me and I look around the room to realize that Caelon was gone and I am left naked after a night of passion once again. He never spoke to me last night. He just use me like he always does, and exhaust me to the point of fainting. I usually feel disoriented when I wake up and it is a side effect of being with a banished.
The persistent knocking started again and I groaned.
“Wait!” I called out, gritting my teeth as I slipped into Caelon’s sweater. If this is Caelon, I swear I am going to pull his hair off his follicles and leave him bald for the rest of our marriage. The sight of his bald head made me giggle but my mood turned sour when the knocking started again. “Will you please wait for a minute?”
I opened the door and gasped when I saw the tall man from the prison. His hair is as blonde as the cupids from our realm yet his eyes are so green, like mine. I blink, taking a step back.
“Good Morning Lady Rouen, I am Newman. Master Rouen sent me to supervise your mission. He said that it is essential for you to start finishing it today since you have only limited time.” He reaches out from his back and produced my quiver and compound bow. The slight burn from the bow made me curious and Newman takes a step back. “I shall take you to wherever you want to go since Master is preoccupied at this moment.”
“So, he is pushing me aside now after getting what he wanted?” I push Newman to the side and knock on the door adjacent to our room, knowing that he is hiding in there. “Caelon, I know you are hiding from me. I can’t believe that you will disregard me after continuously enjoying yourself with my body for a month. You tricked me!” I hit the door with my hands and gritted my teeth, “But that is enough. I won’t let you get close to me later tonight. You are too confident because you know that I like you but now, all I can feel is hate.” I rested my forehead and stated, “I hate you, Caelon Rouen. You disgust me.”
