Chapter 69 Not just a black out

Chapter 69 Not just a black out
Adrian's POV.

My eyes widened. “Evelyn….” I gasped.

When the lights came back on, my eyes were still on Evelyn. I didn't notice at first but when she turned her face to her tummy, I saw the knife at the side of her stomach, crimson dripping down to the floor.

I rushed to her but before I got to her side, she had fallen to the floor with a loud thud.

I crouched down beside her, lifting her up into my arms. “Evelyn….” I shook her body.

She gurgled with her hand on her stomach. She slowly opened her eyes to look at me.

Her pretty eyes were streaked with tears, her lips trying to hold in the tears that threatened to fall.

People started to gather, gasps renting the air.

“Evelyn!” Someone crouched down beside her on the other side. It was her sister. She was already crying, her whole body in panic.

“Oh my god, what happened to you?” She cried.

I pressed down on Evelyn's wound and I could tell from her face that it hurts.

Slowly, Evelyn shook her head. “I can't do this anymore.”

“It hurts...” she croaked. “...so much ”

“Keep your eyes open, Evelyn,” I swallowed hard. “Stay with me.”

Quickly, I turned my face to her sister. “Call the ambulance.” But then I heard a voice of someone who was already on the phone with the emergency services.

“Come quickly,” Nathaniel said. “She's badly hurt.”

I turned my face back to Evelyn. Our faces locked but then she closed her eyes, the last drop of tears sliding down the corner of her eyes before she gave up the strength in her, falling into unconsciousness.

Eva yelled, crying louder. “No!”

I lifted Evelyn up in my hands, walking towards the entrance.

Eva's parents held her, preventing her from rushing after me.

The ambulance arrived minutes later. Evelyn was placed on a stretcher, getting wheeled into the ambulance.

“Hurry to the hospital,” I ordered, voice steady.

The door was slammed shut in front of the many people who watched.

A nurse checked her quickly. “She has lost a lot of blood, we need to get the knife out before we get to the hospital.” she said.

“Then do it,” I said calmly.

I was trying so hard to be calm at the moment and I was glad that it was working.

The nurse set to work while I watched keenly.

“I need something to dab the blood,” she said to the other nurse on the bus.

While the nurse looked around to find what would be used to dab Evelyn's blood, I stood up, taking my shirt off and handing it over to her quickly.

“Use this,” I said.

She took it without hesitation. She dabbed the blood with it, holding the knife and pulling it out in one go.

The nurse dropped the knife into a tray, resuming the treatment on Evelyn.

I examined the knife. The blackout didn't just happen, it was intentional, planned.

The bleeding was stopped, an oxygen mask passed through her nose and mouth.

Soon, the bus arrived at the hospital. Evelyn was wheeled through the lobby of the hospital while I hurried after the stretcher.

I was shirtless and people stared but I didn't care.

A female doctor attended to her. “The stab wound is deep, her arteries are ruptured.”

“She'll be needing surgery,” she said.

I stopped the doctor with a hand, turning her to face me.

“Do everything you need to do,” my voice was low. “Just make sure to save her.”

She nodded. She barked orders to some people, telling them to get Evelyn into the operating room.

The surgery took hours and while everything went on, I sat down in front of the room, my arm crossed.

My head was filled with how bright her smile was whenever she smiled and the look on her face when I last saw her. She was in there, unconscious.

At that moment, I remembered my phone which I hadn't bothered to check since I'd left the hotel.

There were missed calls. From Evelyn's father, her mother, David and Dennis.

I dropped the phone beside me, running a hand through my head with a groan.

The beeping sound of the door made me snap my face. The doctor was out, the assisting doctors following behind her.

I stood up, standing in front of her. “How did it go?”

“She's fine now,” she said. “She's unconscious and we can't predict when she will wake up but the surgery was a success.”

I breathe out in relief. “Thank you.” That came so naturally.

The sound beeped again, opening up once again. Evelyn was wheeled out, she was still unconscious, oxygen tanks getting wheeled after her.

My jaws clenched. I turned my face to the doctor.

“Keep a good eye on her,” I said. “I will be leaving.”

The doctor looked surprised. “Leaving?”

“It's past 12 already, haven't you been checking the time?” She asked.

“Thanks once again for making the surgery a success.” I ignored her words, having no reason to explain to her. “I'll have one of my guards stay with her.”

After seeing Evelyn wheeled into one of the VIP wards, I headed out of the hospital, returning one call out of the numerous ones I missed.

I called David. “Bring me a shirt to Crown hospital. And prepare to guard Evelyn's ward overnight.”

I waited in front of the hospital and David arrived minutes later, handing the car key over to me.

“Protect her,” I slid the shirt on. “I'll find who did that to her.”

David bowed, walking into the hospital. I moved towards the car but before I could reach, someone bumped into me.

I snapped my face to him, darkened. He didn't wait, he didn't apologize, he just walked away in his hoodie and pants.

I got to the entrance of the car but suddenly, I felt an urge to touch my pockets.

That moment, I realized. That guy didn't just bump into me, he took my phone.
