Adrian's POV.
I straightened my back and tucked my hands into my pocket, staring at Evelyn like I was trying to read and calculate her.
“First off,” my voice was cold and low. “Cassandra is not my woman”
I stepped closer to her, lifting her chin up and letting her look into my eyes.
“I have only one woman and that's you” I said and she gulped. “You are my wife. You don't want the public to hear that bullshit you had just said”
She yanked my hand away from her face. “Cut the crap! All I'm meant for is to be shown to the public as your wife. Even when your ex is pregnant for you?”
I leaned back and looked at her the same way I had been doing.
“Don't believe that,” I said. “If she's truly pregnant, it's not for me”
“Eat and let's go home,” I added.
Evelyn scoffed. “I think I want to believe Cassandra Vale over you, dear husband” she spat, her voice filled with venom.
I didn't argue. I only watched as she stood from the bed.
“I don't want the food, I'll change and we'll go home” she walked to a corner of the room, closing the place with the veil that divided the room.
She came out minutes later dressed in her party clothes. She grabbed her bag and walked out while I followed behind her.
“We'll take the back VIP door of the hospital. The reporters are all outside”
She didn't reply but she only headed towards the back exit like I said and later, she let me lead the way after David.
Getting into the car was not difficult as there were no reporters at the back like I had expected and the drive to the mansion didn't take long.
My face caught a figure outside as the car attempted to get into the compound.
I recognized that face. It was that bitch who was trying to put me in a difficult situation.
Evelyn scoffed and that made me turn my face to her. She was staring at Cassandra who was outside the mansion gates with her face filled with disbelief.
“What do I do, sir?” David, who drove the car, asked.
“Drive in” I leaned back into the chair, acting like Cassandra was not invincible.
Inside the mansion, I walked behind Evelyn into the house.
Mira bowed but got no reply from the both of us. I watched Evelyn walk up the stairs like someone who was drained of energy.
When she was completely out of sight, I faced Mira.
“Cook her something to eat. Make sure she eats it” I said.
I turned and walked back out immediately.
Cassandra was still outside. When she saw me, her lips curled into a smirk.
“I knew you'd come back for me” she walked closer to me, her legs crossing as she walked.
I looked over at her with an expressionless face and let her do what she wanted.
She placed a hand on my chest and smiled widely at me.
“Is creating scandals the only thing you are good at?” I asked, creasing a brow.
“In as much as that scandal is enough to get the world talking about the both of us” she said.
Gently, I got her hands off me. “You are trying to pin a pregnancy on me, or you are not even pregnant at all?”
“Does that matter?” She raised a brow with a seductive smile. “What matters is that the whole world now knows that I'm pregnant with Adrian Kane child”
“And what about my wife?” I asked.
This was the calmest discussion I've had with Cassandra ever since we've broken up.
“She should go to hell” she snapped. “You don't even love her, do you?”
Cassandra looked like she was getting angry because I mentioned Evelyn.
I smirked. “We'll see” my face lingered on her for a moment before I walked away back into the mansion.
I didn't get back into the house. I only collected the car key from David, entered the car and drove out while Cassandra still stood at the same spot, watching me.
While I drove, my phone rang. My personal assistant was calling so I picked up immediately.
“Sir, there is a problem,” he said. I didn't snap my gaze, my facial expression didn't change, I only listened while focusing on driving.
“What's it?” I asked, my voice calm.
“Our stocks have suddenly started to plummet sir” he swallowed hard. “It's because of the scandal between you and Miss Cassandra”
“They need you to say something on her claims”
“I'm on my way to the company. Prepare a meeting with the PR team and get the legal team ready to take action” I barked orders calmly. “Tell the head of the legal team to get to my office right away”
“Yes sir”
“Also, freeze Cassandra's bank account. It's mine afterall”
I ended the call and continued driving. She thinks she can control a game I'm in? She's totally wrong.
I got to the company and the PR meeting had already been prepared. My PA walked to me, bowing his head.
“Welcome, boss,” he said. “Like you requested, the head of the legal team is waiting in your office”
“Good” I muttered, entering the hall where the PR team were seated.
Everyone of them went silent, expecting me to take my seat but I only stood in front of them, my hands leaning on the table and my eyes roaming around everywhere.
“Listen” my voice cut through the silence of the room, my darkened eyes sending shivers down the spine of a few. “Let the public know that I won't be saying anything on Miss Vale's claims until I decide to hold an exclusive interview with Denkling's show”
“Talk about the rest among yourselves.” I said. “Our stocks shouldn't go so low because of the talks of a crazy woman”
I leaned away from the table and stormed out of the meeting hall into my office.
The legal team leader stood up and greeted me.
“I need you to close down the hospital where she got the pregnancy results first before anything else” I said.
Cassandra started this game but what she doesn't know is that she'll never win this, not a game started on lies.
