Chapter 25 Denklings Confrontation
Evelyn’s POV.
I followed my intrusive thoughts and walked into the company. When I got to the receptionist, I asked about the CEO’s office.
She went on about following the due process and having an appointment first but this lady was nice, compared to Adrian’s disrespectful receptionist.
“Please tell him it's Evelyn Voss, the first daughter of the Voss family,” I said.
She phoned him and the next minute, I was told to be guided in. I didn't take the elevators, I pleaded with the guard to take me through the stairs.
A few minutes later, I was standing in front of his office. I knocked gently.
“Come in,” His voice rang from the other end of the room.
I opened the door slowly and entered. The man was seated behind his desk, his office looking like a king’s palace.
“Please take a seat,” he stood up from his desk and gestured to the sofa right at the other end of the office.
He looked like he was in his early 30s, just like Adrian. I headed to the sofa and took a seat without hesitation.
He sat opposite me and our eyes locked for just a brief second before I spoke.
I was being calculative and didn't have time to waste. I had to get back home before Adrian got to know I had left for somewhere else.
“I will go straight to the reason why I'm here, sir,” I said.
He nodded. “You are Evelyn Voss?”
“Yes,” I replied. “And I'm here on behalf of the Voss family.”
“I heard about the deal you had with my Dad,” I continued and looked at him to see his facial expression.
He shrugged and raised an eyebrow. “Yeah. It's a pity he lost.”
I scoffed, unable to believe him. “The stakes were that if he wins, he'll get your whole company, isn't it?”
My eyes were darkening and the more I kept looking at him, the angrier I got.
“Yeah, it was.”
“You would never have been able to let go of your company.” I said angrily. “You staked that because you were so sure you'd win.”
“It's like a set up for my family. You knew you'd win from the start.” I said.
He smirked. “Let's say that's true. So, why are you here?”
“I want to reclaim the fashion house.” I announced. “It was taken unlawfully and not even in a fair manner.”
“Then little miss, would you like to explain to me what's fair?” he smirked.
I took a deep breath, hiding my frustration. “Okay, you won it. Agreed.”
“But don't you think taking the only business we have away from us is too much?” My voice was starting to sound like I was making a plea.
“Your father staked that. It isn't my fault,” he frowned.
“Please take something else,” I pleaded. “Anything but the fashion house.”
“Then….” He stood up and paced around. My eyes trailed after him as he moved before he ended up in front of me once again.
“Your sister,” he said.
“You are already married, I can't take you in exchange for the fashion house.” He said and I blinked.
What the fucking hell was he talking about?
“She has reached marriageable age, hasn't she?” He asked. “I can take her and you get your fashion house back.”
I stood up and scoffed. Were all businessmen like this? Torturing people like assholes.
“Fuck you. You think I'd give my sister out like she’s a fucking object?”
“Talking to you is of no use!” I spat.
I headed towards the door in anger.
What was I expecting when I decided to come make a man who tricked his fellow business man into giving out his company, to reconsider his actions?
I was almost at the door when the door opened, Adrian was stepping inside.
My eyes widened in shock as I tried to make sense of what was happening.
The man behind me spoke. “Ah ha!” He exclaimed.
“I called your husband to come pick you up, I figured you might need a ride back home,” he said.
Adrian roamed his eyes around the room before they moved to me.
“Asshole, is that how you greet a long-time friend?” Denklings CEO asked. “You just look at me and take your gaze away?”
“You’ve been fine, I didn’t need to ask,” Adrian replied.
The realization dawned on me. They are in this together. They are friends.
“I'll take what’s mine and leave,” Adrian said.
He moved over to me and grabbed me by the hand.
“You might want to think about my offer, Ms. Kane,” Denklings CEO said before Adrian exited the office with me.
“Let go!” I yelled, trying to yank my hand away from him but he didn't let me.
He tightened his grip on my hand and took me down the stairs.
I was surprised he didn't take the elevator and I knew it was because he was being considerate.
When I was finally able to yank my hand away from him while we walked through the stairs, I turned to him fuming.
“So you are friends with that guy?” I scoffed.
“Am I not supposed to be?” He said.
Responding to my question with a question.
“You are both assholes, the perfect definition of birds of the same feathers,” I spat.
Adrian relaxed, a smirk appearing at the corner of his lips. “Your family is going down again. This time, the mess was caused by their own hands, not me,” he said.
“I can help you. You just need to say the word,” he smirked slyly.
Yes. That word I needed to say was the problem because I wasn't going to say it.
“Say 'Help me, please’ and everything will be fixed,” Adrian smiled.
My fists clenched. He was making a joke of me, mocking me.
“That isn't happening!” I spat before I continued walking.
He stood still on the spot and didn’t follow behind me.
“You’re so sure you won't be crawling back to me for help?” The arrogance in his voice only made my hatred for him grow.
I snapped my face to him, darkened and dangerous. “Never!”
“Then I guess your sister should start getting her things ready,” Adrian murmured.
