Chapter 24 Too Much
"I thought we'd wear casual."
"It's dinner, not a hang out."
I smiled. Compared to me who was a girl, Chris was much more aware of his appearance wherever he went.
I was now only wearing a plain light brown dress standing next to a 6-foot-tall man with a light brown jacket combined with a beige shirt inside, then white material pants completed with white shoes.
Luckily my appearance didn't get slammed when I was next to Chris, he who is always a stylist wherever he goes wouldn't have accepted to change his appearance to be as sober as I do every day.
Maybe if there was an award ceremony for WAGs this year, then I would be nominated for the messiest and shabbiest WAG ever.
Or also the poorest WAG.
Gosh that's so funny... and sad.
"That necklace... it suits you. You love that necklace a lot, don't you?"
"Oh! This?"
My hand immediately grabbed the necklace around my neck, a silver pendant that belonged to my late mother. I always wear it wherever I go, it's my mum's most treasured possession.
"Yeah, this belongs to my mum. I'm not leaving or replacing it."
Chris nodded slightly. "It's lucky I didn't think to buy you a necklace. It's nothing, it's just that if I bought you a necklace it might offend you."
I stopped walking, a split second later I caught up to Chris' slow steps ahead. Still with the smile that I only realised a few seconds later on my face, I was quite impressed with Chris' instincts and emotional sensitivity.
But... why had he been so annoying all this time when he could be so sensitive like this? It was really contradictory.
"That's impressive, you look like a person with high emotional intelligence."
Chris immediately turned to me with an unaccepting look in his eyes, his gaze straight at me without saying anything.
"What do you mean, you think I'm a sociopath?"
"Sometimes, but why were you so annoying before I became your Chaperone? It's like... you have no compassion and no tolerance whatsoever. I'm too surprised you have the emotional sensitivity you showed just now."
"Oh, that... I don't know. I know, but I don't care."
Chris then glanced at me, with a face that seemed to say 'Do you understand?'
I didn't speak again, Chris was indeed an unpredictable person. Similar to Mrs Carla.
There will be more and more questions every day when I'm around this boy.
"Reservation in the name of De Luca."
"Please come in, Mr De Luca. Please follow me."
I just followed behind the waitress. Right next to Chris who was also walking leisurely, into the restaurant.
"I thought we'd just have dinner at the cafe where we usually eat."
"I'm bored, I want a change of scenery. I think you got bored at that place a few times."
After we went up to the second floor, I realised that the restaurant was very quiet. It was deserted, in the sense that there were absolutely no other diners.
There's no way that the restaurant chosen by Chris De Luca would be of a quality that would make people sick of eating there. But why are there no diners here at all?
Chris pulled out a chair for me, let me sit down first, and then sat down after I was actually seated. What treatment is this? bare minimum, but I was touched nonetheless.
The dishes came, unordered, but strangely it was food that didn't contradict my tastes.
What the hell? Is this a dream? The sudden dinner that was too smooth sounded like a 1990's contemporary romance novel.
"When did you know I like this dish?
Forest Glaze tenderloin, even I only learnt the name of that dish this time. I love dishes like this, and Chris can tell that. The sprinkling of duxelles or mushrooms underneath the savoury and fragrant beef, really suits the food I love.
"Yeah, give me five stars." Chris smiled nosily. "Aren't you an eater of everything?"
I sneered at Chris, taking back my compliment. He was still the prankster and nosy Chris that I met every day. But that's typical of him, I'm almost afraid that his soul was switched with another man when he actually behaved sweetly today.
"Hey, propaganda to persuade the chaperone not to resign? No need to bother, just give me a black card for me to rob the contents of your account," I said.
It was my turn to return her smile with the same smile. But the one I gave a smile to instead just reached into his pocket and tossed a black card casually in front of my plate.
Oh no, now it was me who froze while glaring like a dead fish out of water.
"Hey, I'm kidding! Don't take me so seriously!"
I froze and pushed the black card back to Chris, but he frowned in displeasure.
"How poor do you think I am that I should be afraid of you using my card? You use this for a whole month and the balance will never run out."
I almost didn't like that line, but in fact he seemed to mean it.
I almost forgot that he had the name De Luca in his surname. A conglomerate who happened to go to the same school as me.
"You're too generous, be careful I'll take advantage of you," I said with a lopsided smile.
"Take advantage, I'm taking advantage of you too."
I raised one eyebrow. Yep, that's right. I was being used for her artificial romance image agenda. I don't care how far she's planning to go, she's having fun with her enemies. I was annoyed with them anyway, so I just left it up to Chris to sort things out himself.
We then ate quietly. Sometimes I worry about moments that are too quiet like this, like there will be a big storm coming afterwards. I tried to dismiss that thought, there shouldn't be any bad manifestations when I could manifest better things for my fate in the future.
"Open your mouth."
"Ah? Why... Oh!"
I opened my mouth, and a piece of meat entered my mouth from the mouthful given by Chris. Wow, what was this acting again? We were really good at acting.
"Chris, do you know there are paparazzi around here?"
"Yeah, I know, and I might hire one."
"Wow, you're really serious about your plan, don't let us go too far because of that--"
"Hm? Why are you asking like that? You're not getting carried away are you?"
