Chapter 48 Forty-Eight
Chapter 48 Forty-Eight
Xavier
I was about to head out from the hallway when I stumbled into Kimberly, the book she was holding was about to slip away from her hand, I quickly stretched out my hand to hold it. My fingers brushing her arm lightly. I felt a sensation ran down my spine.
“Thanks,” she muttered without looking at my eyes and she was about to walk away but I step in front of her and held her on her shoulder.
“Wait,” I said simply.
But I couldn’t find the words to say further, I just stare at her, my hand stil in her shoulders.
She raised her head up slowly, her eyes meeting mine.
“What do you want this time?” She questioned, her eyes glistened, like she was trying to fight back some tears.
I swallowed and looked away.
“ Haven’t you done enough already?” She blinked rapidly.
“What do you mean?” I asked, my brows squished.
“You plan was to make a ridicule of me right? And now you have successfully done that, can you just let me go?”
“I… I… I don’t know what you are talking about,” I said, my brows wrinkled.
She took in a sharp breath and then she removed my hand from her shoulders.
“Stop making me feel like a fool, you clearly know what you did, I don’t need to start explaining it to you.”
My stomach twisted.
“I don’t even know what you are talking about right now.”
“Well, I don’t have the time to keep being a fool right now, so I will just leave, I have something important to do right now,” she said simply and walked away, her shoulder brushing mine.
I stood there, my head slightly raised up, I shoved my hand in my hair, and took a deep sigh. I wonder what she was talking about? I didn’t do anything to her. I didn’t make any ridicule of her.
The bell rang, it was time for our group project. I got to the classroom and everyone was already together with their pairs.
My eyes darted around looking for the placards on the tables with the one that had the inscription of Group B because that was my group. Before I found them, someone called out.
“Xavier, Over here.”
We started working on our project, it was about coming up with a topic that will be discussed by a selected individual from each group.
I was paying full attention to what the leader of my group was saying not until my eyes landed on Kimberly, and then to him.
My face turned sullen immediately I set my eyes on him. How come they were in the same group?
It wasn’t as if they were paying attention to what the leader of their group was saying either. They were more like having a discussion of their own. And she just kept smiling at whatever he was saying to her.
My fist tightened at my side. How come whenever she is with him, he always makes her laugh?
But it’s just as if I only caused her chaos.
He leaned in closer to her and he said something in her ears that made her burst out a laughter, that made some people stopped what they were doing and paused to look at her.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” she muttered, her gaze lowered. Then Andre flashed her a toothy grin and she went back smiling at him.
I swallowed hard, my stomach twisted.
My foot found a way to move. I felt like just going there just to interrupt them, make him stop talking to her, but that just makes me look too controlling.
Gosh! I just can’t wait for this group stuff to be over. Standing here and witnessing this whole thing felt like torture.
“Xavier,” the group leader called out.
I jerked, turning to look at her, my brows slightly raised.
“Are you sure you are still here with us?”
“Of course,” I nodded.
“Good! We are about to conclude on our topic and I just wanted to know if everyone is in agreement on it.”
My eyes gleamed, with relief washing over me. We are finally done.
Everyone scrambled out of the classroom as soon as the bell rang.
I shoved my hands in my pocket striding on the hallway, I watched as her and Andre were walking together, my inside churned.
They stopped, Andre told her something, then he parted ways.
“Oooh,” Kimberly ran off to meet a girl walking in front of her.
I stopped wondering what she wanted to say to her.
Then she took out a handkerchief from the pocket of her blazer and started wiping something off from her skirt.
I found myself smiling. She is just so different and kind of dramatic, but I love it that way.
How does she make me notice things that no one else does?
Classes were over for the day and I went over to my locker to drop some stuff. After I was done, I started heading out of the hallway, when my eyes met Kimberly, books in her hand.
Then some girls were walking towards her, three of them, arms crossed over their chest, their chin raised up and their back straightened.
I stopped, my eyes lingering on them and wondering what they wanted to do.
“Hey,” one of them pushed her backwards.
“What?” She questioned,,clinging the book to her body.
“So since you work in the Grey’s Mansion, we need you to tell us what their house looks like.”
I shook my head slowly.
“No, I can’t say that,” Kimberly said simply, lowering her gaze and was about to walk away, but they stepped on her way, making her stop.
“So you really work there?” One of them questioned.
“And as their maid?” Another added.
Kimberly swallowed, refusing to answer the question.
“Oh she forgot how to talk now?” One of them snickered.
I have to do something and I can’t let anyone see me doing this, not yet.
