Chapter 43 Forty-Three
Chapter 43 Forty-Three
Kimberly
I returned from school, emotionally drained and a little physically drained.
A little?
It was like I just came back from fighting a world war. My muscles were totally spent, the only thing I could remember I spent my energy on in school was just studying and right now I wondered why I felt completely wiped out.sweat was on my forehead and some were forming on my philtrum, the groove between my nose and upper lip.
I dragged my feet upstairs, planning in my head to just take a quick shower and jumped on my bed to probably take the longest nap ever and just to zone my mind out of everything that was happening.
I opened the door and I froze immediately, my eyes bulged, I did a double take.
Anaya? How did she get here?
She was lying on my bed comfortably like she is the owner of the room in her uniform and was reading one of my books or actually just staring blankly at the pages. I know Anaya would never sit down to read a book to save her life.
And before I could ask her that question. She jumped out of the bed, walking towards me .
Her gaze shifted to me, her eyes danced and sparkled towards me.
“Welcome home,” she said in her bubbly light voice.
Then hugged me tightly, while I just stood there hands rigid on my side like a log of wood, my eyes widening.
She finally pulled back.
“How did you get here?”
“I have my ways,” she says, kissing her teeth.
“You have started breaking into people’s houses,” I sneered, as I took off my blazers and sat on my study chair.
“You’re not people,”she arched her brows.
I rolled my eyes.
“You know if the Greys catches you, you’re probably going to end up in prison.”
She chuckled.
“You know what, I even saw Mrs Grey when I came in,”she says, cleaning off imaginary dirt from her fingers.
I turned to look at her, my eyes bulged, that they almost fell off my socket.
“You what?? What did you tell her when you came in? Oh my God,” I rambled, placing my palm on my forehead.
“Relax,” Anaya gestured with her hands, and then she crossed her legs.
“I just told her I was one of Xavier’s friends and she let me in,” she said simply, with a proud smile on her face.
My brows wrinkled,“Just like that?”
“Hmmn mhm, I told her Xavier was expecting me by the way, so she didn’t bother to call him.”
There was silence in the air and I stared at her, my eyes narrowed, pursing my lips in thought, with different thoughts running through my mind.
She seemed a bit different, like she had returned to her normal personality. This was the Anaya I knew but This wasn’t her to me a few weeks ago and even today in class. What changed all of a sudden, why did she decide to show up in my room unannounced.
She turned to look at me with an incredulous expression on her face.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” Her brows squished.
I jerked up, sitting upright and forcing a smile on my face, that came out awkward.
“Uh?”
“I mean like this,” she said, squishing her brows and trying to mimic me.
I sneered and then turned my face away. I slant my body on the chair, staring up at the roof.
“Like you are trying to read my mind or something,” she laughed, “You looked so funny.”
“Kimberly, are you okay?” She asked softly.
“Yeah I’m fine,” I said almost quietly.
“No, you’re not!” Was the sharp, firm reply that came from her.
Before I turned to look at her, she had already stood up and walked towards me.
She pushed my hands away from the desk and sat down.
She leaned forward, resting her jaw on her palm.
“Now tell me, what’s going on in that little heart of yours?”
I leaned back, heaving a deep sigh.
“I don’t even know where to start from.”
“Start from anywhere, I’m listening.”
“Okay… It’s just about the whole Xavier issue, the drug test rumor and all that, I just feel bad that everyone thinks I tell on him and when I tried to just talk to him about it he just … he didn’t even look my way,” I scrubbed my hand over my face.
“Look… if you are so sure you aren’t the one then you don’t have to fear.”
“You don’t believe me?”I leaned forward, my eyes widening.
“That’s not what I meant, I believe you, just don’t think about too much, the culprit must definitely be exposed.”
I leaned back on my chair, lowering my gaze and my face sullen.
“And why does it even bother you so much? Do you like him?”
My stomach twisted, I felt a tingling sensation through my body.
“What do you mean?”
“You said you felt bad when he snubbed you.” She arched her brow.
“That means…”
I didn’t let her finish.
“He has a girlfriend, and besides he used to bully me, he is annoying, I can't even like someone like that ,” I rolled my eyes.
“I know right, but when he planted soft kisses on your lips that night , your mind probably travelled to another world,” she smiled tightly, giving me a side eye.
“Oh please,” I rolled my eyes.
I need someone to bundle this girl out of my room right now.
“You know..”,She tilted her head upwards as if trying to remember something.
“Sometimes the people who annoy us the most are the ones we can’t stop thinking about and if they are your soulmate, you can never truly unlove them .”
I didn’t say anything, I was just staring at her, her words lingering in my mind.
“There’s just this deep connection that remains, that just makes you feel their emotions or find your way back to them,” her eyes were beginning to look dreamy and her tone was so serious that I could not believe she could actually sound so sensible.
My phone rang suddenly. My eyes glanced at the screen.
“Oh my God, it’s him, what does he want?” My heart thudded lightly in my chest and I stood up from the chair.
Anaya leaned forward trying to peep on my screen.
“You should take the call,” she probed.
I slide the answer icon, my hand shaking.
“Hello?” I said nervously.
“Can you come downstairs please, I need to talk to you,” he said quietly.
I sat back on the chair, dropping the phone on the table.
“What did he say?” Anaya asked, raising her eyebrows.
“He wants me to come downstairs, but I don’t think I want to,” I said, my shoulders slumped.
“You should go, maybe he wants to apologize.”
My mind went back to the way he had snubbed me in the hallway.
I shook my head rigorously,“No”
Anaya grabbed my hand.
“You have to go now!” She ordered and that was when I found myself dressing up to go downstairs.
As we got downstairs, Anaya's phone rang.
“Oh it’s my mum,” she said, showing me her screen,“I have to go now.”
“And don’t forget to tell me how it went,” she whispered.
I mentally rolled my eyes. We were just going to have a simple conversation.
And then I opened the door..
My eyes widened, and my posture stiffened.
This was someone I wasn't even expecting to show up.
Cassie.
She just stood there, her nose wrinkled, eyeing me.
