Chapter 31 Thirty-One
Chapter 31 Thirty-One
Kimberly
I pulled back quickly as I heard Cassie’s voice. It is too early to get into trouble.
My shoulders tightened, and I felt like shrinking in my body to make it as small as possible.
Cassie’s chest thrust out, her eyes went cold, hard and flinty. With a glare, she walked closer to me lifting her hand up in an attempt to slap me but Xavier quickly intervened by holding her hands.
I closed my eyes tightly, jerking back.
She turned slowly to look at Xavier who still held her hand. Her nostrils flared, and her lips curled into a frown.
“You’re siding with her now?” She questioned, tilting her head to the side with her brows slightly arched.
Xavier didn’t say anything.
She released her hand forcefully away from Xavier’s grip.
“I thought you said you never had anything to do with her,” she snapped.
Xavier still didn’t say anything, he was just staring at her.
“You aren’t even justifying yourself,” she exhaled.
Xavier leaned in close to her.
“Just because you saw us hugging means we are a thing now?” He questioned.
“You aren’t even supposed to be close to her!” She yelled.
“And who makes that rule?” Xavier questioned, his voice slightly on edge.
She rolled her head back, and her shoulders stiffened. Without saying a word, she stormed away.
“You should go after her,” I said simply.
“No,” he shook his head, but his eyes were still fixed on the direction she had gone.
“She is really angry, she was right, I shouldn’t be close to you."
“No, she had no right to touch you.”
“But you just have to go and comfort her or something,” I shrugged.
He didn’t say anything, then he turned to face me.
“Xavier,” I called softly.“She is your girlfriend, you can’t just ditch her like that.”
“Don’t mind her, she was just overreacting.”
“That’s normal, Xavier.”
He shook his head,“Nah.”
“But still, you still have to go after her."
His gaze was fixed on me.
His lips pressed together, and then flattened.
“If you care so much, then maybe you should go after her.”
He started walking away.
My mouth fell open, I jerked my head back.
What?
How did he go from being Calm to rude?
“We should really stay out of couples issues,” I murmured.
I started walking towards the library.
“Hey,”
Someone jumped beside me, interlocking her elbow with mine.
I looked to my side.
“Anaya,” my face beamed.
“Where have you been,” I said, pulling her into a hug.
“ Just chilling,” she rolled her eyes.
“Chilling,” my brows arched,“You weren’t in class.”
“I know, I just didn’t want to be in the class.”
“Why?” I questioned, my brows drawing together.
“Oh Kimberly,” she said with a wave of her hand,“Can we just forget about that, I just skipped class, it’s not much of a big deal.”
“Okay, if you say so,” I shrugged.
The air was silent for a while and then she nudged me gently with her elbow.
“Ouch. What?”
“What was going on between you and Xavier and his girlfriend?”
“Oh, it’s nothing,” I said, scratching my hair.
“Nothing?” Her lips twisted.
“What do you mean nothing, I saw Cassie storming out from that corner angrily and then I saw Xavier walking out from there, then you.”
“I exhaled, it’s just some minor issues, it’s really not serious,” I said simply.
“Nothing serious,” she scoffed,“If it’s an issue with Cassie, she shouldn’t be the girl you should mess up with. ”
We sat down in the library and it wasn’t up to an hour when Andre strode in. My face gleamed, and I waved at him.
Anaya's gaze shifted to me, an incredulous look on her face, then her eyes shifted to Andre.
Andre walked closer, standing in front of us.
“Anaya.”
Anaya looked up,she blinked rapidly, trying not to look directly at Andre.
“Can you please excuse us, I want to have her for a moment,” he said, shifting his gaze to me.
“Hmmn?Anaya’s posture stiffened.
“You heard me right.” Andre said.
“No… you met me here, so you can’t just tell me to leave like that, you can just wait till she finishes or you both can go talk somewhere else,” she said calmly, still trying to avoid eye contact with him.
“No Anaya, I’m not insisting, I’m requesting,” he said calmly.
“But you didn’t sound like that,” Anaya mumbled.
“Fine, we will go sit somewhere else then,” he says, his gaze shifting to me.
“Please Kimberly, can I borrow you for a moment.”
I heaved a deep sigh. What kind of a big temptation is this? Do I choose him over my friend now or what?
“See Andre, can we just —-
I sucked my teeth in, my shoulders slumped at my side and then I continued.
“I came in here with my friend, so you can’t just diss her away like that.”
“I’m not not dissing your friend Kimberly,” he chuckled.
“Then can we just talk later,” I shrugged.
“It’s really something important,” he leaned forward, his shoulders straightened.
I exhaled deeply, I looked away to Anaya, she was busy scribbling away something on her note. I looked back at Andre again, his brows arched up.
“Anaya,” I called out softly.
“ let me just —“
“It’s fine,” she started packing her books on the table.
“You’re done already?” I questioned.
“Yeah, I’m just going to head to the classroom,” she said, her face kind of faltering into a frown.
“See you later,” she said simply and then walked away.
I looked at her as she walked away.
“I hope she will be fine,” I whispered and then I turned to face Andre, my face glistening with a smile.
“So what do you want to talk about?” I said leaning forward on the table and placing my hand on my jaw in rapt attention.
He came to sit beside me.
“I wanted to talk to you about this topic in Biology.”
I jerked back, my eyes dazed and my mouth flew open, staring at him like he had grown two heads.
“What?” He questioned, squinting his eyes while staring at me like I was going crazy.
“Just that?” I laughed, a small one, surprised at what he had said.
“Yea just that,” he says simply.
“You must be joking,” I snickered.
“You made it sounded so serious, and now you have annoyed my friend and made her walk away.”
“I didn’t mean to.”
I hissed underneath my breath.
“Well then, I don’t want to study biology right now.”
“We will talk later,” I said and started walking away.
I was heading to the hallway to go get my bag from the locker, because school was almost ending for the day and I didn’t have anymore classes before then.
“Hey,” Xavier pulled me by my arms.
“Wh… what?” I stuttered.
He didn’t say anything, he pulled me under the staircase. My back to the wall, his eyes locked unto mine.
My stomach fluttered and I felt a tingling sensation down my spine , what is he trying to do?
“I didn’t stop Cassie because I felt sorry for you,” he paused and then swallowed.
His lashes fluttered, he was hesitant, like something was holding him from saying something.
My heart raced.
“I … I,” he started to say, but his phone started ringing.
