Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Eva’s POV

There was something oddly comforting about days when nothing important happened.

No grand announcements. No heavy conversations. No pressure about wedding preparations or keeping up appearances. Just a normal day. It seems like a lot of normal days has been happening these past days for a reason.

Dominic had left early for some private meeting with the council elders again. He hadn’t said much before leaving, just a quiet “Don’t forget to eat” and a brush of his fingers against my shoulder as he passed by.

I wondered if I should check up on him with something to eat but I brushed it off instantly. That might be doing too much.

It was barely eight in the morning when I found myself alone in the penthouse, sitting at the breakfast island in my pajamas, slowly working through a bowl of yogurt and berries.

The rain from the day before was gone now, leaving behind crisp air and sunlight that danced across the marble floors.

I didn’t have to be at the club until later in the afternoon. So I had a few hours to myself, which felt like a gift.

After breakfast, I went into my room, pulled out my yoga mat, and streamed a light workout session on my tablet. Thirty minutes of stretching and moving helped clear my mind. My muscles ached pleasantly afterward, and I rewarded myself with a warm shower and fresh clothes, a soft lilac blouse and light denim jeans.

I seem to have gotten used to this soft life in the span of weeks I've been here and it seems surprising. I could have time for myself now that I was earning enough to take care of father and the debts. I didn't want to admit that this contract with Dominic was beneficial but I had to.

It was like a blessing in disguise.

It wasn’t until I finished drying my hair that I noticed the box near my bedroom door.

It was small and wrapped in a navy-blue ribbon. There was no name on it, but I knew exactly who it was from.

I untied the ribbon and lifted the lid carefully. Inside was a small velvet pouch. I opened it to find a thin silver chain bracelet, delicate and simple, with a single charm shaped like a feather.

There was a note tucked beneath it.

Thought you could use something light today.

I stared at it for a moment. Was he trying to flirt now?

I smiled softly, fastening the bracelet to my wrist before heading out to the balcony with a cup of tea.

The city below was alive as always, but from up here, it all looked so far away. I pulled my knees to my chest and just sat there, watching the clouds roll by.

The quiet didn’t last forever.

Around noon, I decided to head out and visit the club before my scheduled shift. I figured I could check on the books, talk to the bartenders, and maybe restock some of the inventory if needed.

Dominic had asked me to keep the financial side of the club in order while he focused on his Alpha duties, and I found strange comfort in it. Working with numbers, keeping things organized, it grounded me.

When I arrived, the place was calm. The club didn’t open to the public until evening, so only staff were around, cleaning, prepping, rearranging lights, and chatting in small groups.

I made my way to the back office and settled in at the desk.

The reports were just how I left them, organized in neat folders on the computer. The revenue was steady, though I noticed the bar sales had dropped slightly compared to last month. Nothing dramatic, but I flagged it anyway and made a mental note to suggest a mid-week promotion or happy hour.

And then the entire day went briefly and it seems like everyone was avoiding getting on the wrong footing with me now that it seems like the big wedding thing was real and not fake.

By the time I returned to the penthouse, the sky had started to turn gold again. I placed my bag by the door and found a note on the counter.

Went to check on things at the estate. Back soon. Hope the bracelet fits.

I glanced down at the silver chain on my wrist and smiled.

I warmed up some soup from the fridge and ate by the window, watching the sun set behind the city buildings. I didn't want to worry about anything and just enjoy this as much as I can. Save up enough money alongside paying my debts to get myself and father somewhere nice once the duration of my contract with Dominic ends.

I deserve that much.
