Chapter 572 A Bit Mentally Unwell
Chapter 572 A Bit Mentally Unwell
Young people our age are all like this, we won't fight desperately for our parents, or for our dreams and studies, only for that so‑called love.
The way Kyle feels right now, I'd been there before. Back in high school, when I had a crush on Emily but she kept looking down on me and even mocking me, I also felt like my life had lost all meaning. Though I never thought about ending it all, I just didn't know what I was living for.
But all that changed when I came to Phoenix Institute and first laid eyes on Grace. After I gave my first kiss to Chloe, I finally got over Emily completely. At least in my mind, she was no longer so sacred.
That's why I thought Kyle's feelings for Sophia weren't really that deep, he'd just been shut off for too long and needed a girl, any girl.
"Kyle," I said with a smile, "you're not that devoted, are you? In my experience, what you need right now isn't Sophia specifically, just a girl."
Kyle wouldn't admit it, "There are plenty of girls around, but I like her!"
"Let me put it this way, it's like you're walking through a desert. You're carrying a bottle of water, and suddenly a sandstorm comes and blows your water away. As you keep walking, your mouth gets dry, so you really miss that bottle of water and think it's your lifeline. But if you think about it clearly, it's not that dramatic. If a well suddenly appeared in front of you, you could survive on that too. In other words, any water can keep you alive, not just that specific bottle you lost."
I thought my analogy was pretty vivid, but Kyle just wouldn't listen. He begged me again with a long face, "Nolan, whatever you say, today is Sunday. I really hope you can get Sophia to come out and meet me. If I don't talk things through with her, I really can't let this go!"
Just then my phone rang. I took it out and saw it was Grace's number, she must have been getting impatient.
After I answered, I told her I'd be right there, but Grace told me something urgent had come up and she had to go out, so she wouldn't be going shopping this morning.
Were people just naturally contrary?
When she asked me to go shopping with her early this morning, I was actually pretty annoyed. The thing was, it was her first time inviting me, so I couldn't refuse.
Now, suddenly hearing her cancel, even though I didn't want to go shopping anyway, I felt even more annoyed, it was Sunday, she wasn't working, what urgent matter could make her give up shopping with me and rush off?
I just said okay. As I was putting my phone back in my pocket, I saw Grace driving her car, already turning toward the school gate, and soon she drove out of the school.
Since I wasn't in a hurry to go home, I suddenly had more patience for Kyle.
"Kyle," I shook my head, "this is really just in your head. If you're sure I can get Sophia to come out, then you calling her would work just as well. After all, you two have no bad blood, I don't believe she'd refuse you."
"But..."
"But you're always worried about losing what you haven't even got. In that sense, like I just said, Sophia is indeed a bottle of water that can save your life, but she's not the only one. If she really were the last bottle of water left in the world, what would you have to worry about losing?"
"Nolan, you really won't help me with this?"
"I'm trying to help you see yourself more clearly, or rather, see your relationship with Sophia more clearly. How about this, call her right now and ask her to meet up. If she refuses, then I'll call her."
I did this because I wanted Kyle to wake up sooner. He didn't need Sophia specifically, he just couldn't get over that mental hurdle. At this point, if any girl showed interest in him, even just a flirty glance, I felt like he'd be completely smitten.
That's exactly why I didn't want to become a pimp who'd harm Sophia.
Kyle looked at me doubtfully. After hesitating for a long time, he finally took out his phone and pulled up Sophia's name, but at the last moment he smiled bitterly, "I can't do it. I can't handle her rejection. What if..."
Just then, from another path, a girl's nightingale‑like voice suddenly called out, "Chairman Williams, good morning!"
Who was that? It sounded like she was calling me, but why did it sound so grating?
Kyle and I both turned to look, and saw Celeste in a T‑shirt and jeans, waving at me with a bright smile, swaying her hips quite dramatically.
"Oh, Celeste," I hadn't planned to joke with her, but to convince Kyle, I asked with a smile, "Could you make that swaying any more dramatic?"
Celeste obviously knew what I meant, and shamelessly swayed even more dramatically, finally turning back to blow me a kiss.
She was a senior, had slept with Aidan before, and who knew who else before Aidan, then got together with Bob after that.
From her physical maturity and curves, it was clear she'd been with quite a few men. Not only was she beautiful, but she had real charm, otherwise she couldn't be the Arts Representative on the student council.
After she turned around and strode toward the school gate, I glanced at Kyle. He was staring at Celeste's back, completely spaced out.
Obviously, he was captivated by Celeste's flirtatious energy.
I kicked Kyle's butt and teased, "She's practically on Mars already, and you're still staring?"
Kyle snapped out of it, his face flushing red, and said sheepishly, "Everyone appreciates beauty."
"Just appreciates beauty?" I punched his chest lightly, "With the way she was swaying that little butt, don't tell me you didn't like it?"
Honestly, any girl Aidan would go for was definitely quite beautiful. Winning over Kyle would take no time at all.
Kyle's face got even redder, "Even if I had some reaction, that's normal, right? After all, I'm a normal guy, nothing wrong with me in that department."
I patted his shoulder and said, "What I'm trying to tell you is, what you're missing right now isn't Sophia specifically, just a girl. And don't get offended by this, but if she threw herself at you, would you still be dying over Sophia?"
Kyle smiled bitterly, "You wear shoes that fit your feet. I'm not like you with all your momentum, being vice president of the student council with beautiful girls all around you."
Basically, Kyle's problem was an inferiority complex. He liked prettier girls but thought he could only get someone like Sophia. Unfortunately, even that pitiful bit of confidence got crushed by Sophia, so now he looked like he had nothing to live for.
I smiled, "If you like her, how about I get her to hang out with us sometime?"
