Mum Please!
Mum Please!
Alana's POV
My sister is insane. Yes, she's very insane.
The whole time she lived with me, she was working with her new found wealth we both got from Richard, and she used some of her money to start a business.
She suddenly invited my husband and I to her housewarming party. Yes, she even got a new house, and she was also launching her business as well. When she called me to tell me the surprise, we cried together over the phone for what felt like hours.
She was doing well after everything, she was glowing and she seemed happy. I couldn't wait to see how her pregnancy had progressed and how well she was handling it.
Ryan walked in just then, seeing me in tears. I watched the wave of panic consume him for a split second before he asked me what was wrong with me. Apparently I had cried so hard, my eyes were almost blood red.
“Why are you crying? Who hurt you? You can tell me.”
I just smiled instead, for a long time, keeping him waiting as he got in bed with me.
“Nobody hurt me. I'm just really happy. My sister got a new place and she invited us for the housewarming party.” I chirped excitedly, but I didn't expect his reaction.
“Oh, she's finally told you.” He stated like it was nothing, startling me.
“Wait, you knew?” Unbelievable.
“She wanted us to keep it a secret from you. She actually contacted me to help her get the house and it's what I've been up to for a while now. Glad it's over.”
Instead of being impressed, I got mad instead.
“But I'm your wife! How could you choose my sister over me? Keeping secrets now?”
“Fuck, my gorgeous wife. Don't be mad at me, okay? Be mad at your sister instead.”
He said, staring at me, trying to make me feel better.
I melted and began to cry into his shirt.
“I'm just so happy and proud of her. Thank you for your help too.”
“Anything for you. So, gonna make me feel good or nah?” Sex, really? I could barely move.
“Nothing for you tonight. I feel tired all of a sudden. I wonder why.”
“I might have a couple of ideas. Come on, let's get some sleep.” I wanted to hear those ideas of his but he failed to respond to me until I eventually succumbed to sleep.
……..
Okay, the house was impressive. I also found out it was equal joint payment, but even though, it was still very expensive for fifty fifty. Ryan and I arrived pretty late, the whole house was buzzing and my sister rushed into my arms immediately. Her bump was now pretty obvious, and she looked good.
I patronized her little business instantly and we had a couple of drinks. I met with her friends and we chatted and had a great time while Ryan was at another part of the house with the guys.
Later we all gathered to dance but an uninvited guest showed up. Michael. Remember Michael? Yeah, the guy that bailed on my sister like almost a year ago?
He was here in the flesh, and I don't know what happened between them exactly but it was clear he definitely had a serious thing for my sister. He still did.
He came up to me for a chat and I tried to entertain him, but my sister was just glaring at me, clearly wanting me to stop but how?
The guys came out and Gerald noticed the tension between them. I saw him get uncomfortable and he refused to leave her side. He just kept holding her, obviously marking his territory.
Eventually, I had to take it upon myself to ask him to leave. It was even shocking that he knew where she lived. He wasn't a dangerous person, he just realized what he lost but he was too late.
After that ugly incident, I was indoors, almost all the guests had gone as the party was over, when I heard people say an old couple was looking for me.
Ryan was conversing with some guy in the living room and shit got real when Amanda stood by the door of the room I was in, shaking visibly, tears beginning to roll down her cheeks.
“Amanda, what's wrong? Tell me!”
I didn't hesitate to jump up from the bed and rush to her side, worried and panicking.
“They came. They found us. They are here.” She said softly, slowly, and shaky. She was terrified.
“What? Who?” Then I heard them.
“Alana, I saw you on tv, can't help your parents, huh?” I looked up, locked eyes with the only woman that looked a bit like me, apart from my sister. But she looked like the treacherous version, even now.
My parents, as fresh as day. They were in the same vicinity we were, and my sister couldn't take it.
“How did they find us?” I still held my sister's hands and guided her right to the living room, my mother taking steps back as we were coming closer. Now we stood at different corners of the living room, tension thick in the air.
My sister shook her head, she couldn't understand it either. Gosh, I didn't need this kind of stress today.
They looked terrible, like they had been homeless. I wouldn't put it past them, but now they were here again to traumatize us further? I didn't hate my parents, I just felt they were unworthy of us, of me. I suffered alone to get us where we were now and I will never let them make us feel uncomfortable when we were finally getting the happiness that we deserved.
Ryan and Gerald soon noticed the tension, and my mother proceeded to snap at a very vulnerable and emotional Amanda like she had the right.
“So you're pregnant? What, I leave you alone for a couple of years and you pop up pregnant? Have you no shame?” My mother began to yell, my father just stood beside her, monitoring everything in a creepy manner. I just wanted them out at this point. I wanted nothing to do with them. It's a miracle they were still even together.
Amanda took steps back, frightened, her eyes widened, fears threatening to fall. For a moment there I forgot how to defend myself, like I believed that they still had this hold on me for some reason, when I could've just broken free earlier.
My mother didn't stop. She looked like a demon.
“You dirty slut! So this is what became of you? Pregnant at twenty one!”
“Mum! Please!” Amanda screamed and immediately, Gerald rushed to her side while Ryan rushed to mine.
“This woman is your mother?” Ryan asked, probably shocked. I mean, who wouldn't be?
I couldn't speak, I could only nod, numb. I just let my mom keep attacking myself because I could barely even help myself.
“Of course it's you, no shame. You dared to get her pregnant!” She attacked Gerald this time, looking so ferocious but all Gerald did was hold his wife and try to calm her down.
We both couldn't take it. She then proceeded to face me.
“Like I said. I saw you on television for all the wrong reasons, you fucking whore. So now you sleep with married men? Did I teach you that?”
“You taught me nothing, mother! Nothing! Why are you here? What the hell do you want now? Why can't you leave us alone?” I screamed at the top of my lungs, exhausted.
The crowd reduced drastically as though nobody wanted to witness the shouting match as I stood up to my mom. It seemed to shock her as she was quite taken aback, a hand to her chest in disbelief that I would say something like that.
Gerald had taken Amanda to a seat. Better, she was pregnant and needed to be in charge of her emotions, especially now. My dad seemed mute, all he did was watch the drama unfold.
“How dare you? You're a fucking slut. Just look at how disgusting you are! I gave birth to two useless daughters after all. The least you can do is reimburse me for the–”
“Don't you dare talk to my girlfriend like that!” Ryan snapped from behind me, seemingly having enough of the drama.
Gerald was so done. He got both of them kicked out. As my mom was being dragged out, she kept cursing and yelling, swearing to come back to take back her share. I was the most embarrassed because if this made it to the media, I'll get bullied and the story would be that I neglected my parents, when the reverse was the case.
I was boiling and hurt. Ryan held on to me from behind, kissed my shoulders softly and told me that everything would be okay as he tried to calm me down.
I decided to get a restraining order against them for me and my sister. They didn't deserve us. They weren't going to ruin this day for us so I wiped up my tears, got my sister to stop crying and led her to the dancefloor where we both danced our hearts out before it was time for me to leave.
