Chapter 120: Dawn in Your Arms
Sunlight filtered through thin curtains, painting the room gold. Brielle stirred under the blankets, tangled against Damian’s chest. His arm draped around her waist, fingers tracing lazy patterns on her side.
She opened her eyes to find him watching her, a soft smile on his face. His hair was mussed, his skin warm and safe. In that moment the world outside paused.
“Good morning,” he whispered, brushing a stray curl from her forehead.
“Morning,” she replied, voice husky with sleep and happiness.
He pressed a gentle kiss to her temple. “I slept better than I have in days.”
She stretched, curling closer. “Me too.” Her fingers found his, lacing their hands together. “I never want to wake up without you.”
He laughed softly. “Then don’t.” He tugged her impossibly closer, and they fit together like a secret promise.
She traced a line across his collarbone. “I still can’t believe you came for me.”
He kissed her fingertips. “I’d cross any distance to find you.” He paused, eyes serious now. “You’re my first thought when I wake. My last before I sleep.”
Warmth pooled in her chest. “And you’re mine.”
They lay in silence, simply breathing in the comfort of each other’s presence.
After a moment, Damian slipped out from under the covers. “I’ll make breakfast.”
She watched him pull on sweatpants and a t-shirt. In the kitchenette, he scrambled eggs and toasted bread. The scent of butter filled the small room.
Brielle rose and slipped into his hoodie, its sleeves swallowing her hands. She padded over, hugging him from behind. “Can I help?” she asked, resting her cheek against his back.
He smiled, tilting his head. “Maybe just be my taste tester.”
She giggled, pressing a kiss to his neck. “I can do that.”
He plated the eggs, handing her a fork. They ate at the little table, their shoulders touching, grins bright.
Between bites, Brielle said, “I never knew mornings could feel so… peaceful.”
Damian reached across, brushing a crumb off her lip. “We’ll have a thousand mornings like this,” he promised.
Her heart swelled. “Even with finals coming?”
“Even with finals.” He winked. “And no scandal, I hope.”
She laughed. “I think we’ve survived worse.”
After breakfast, they sat on the small balcony overlooking the quiet street. The air was cool. Damian draped his jacket around her shoulders.
She shivered happily. “Thank you.”
“For what?” he asked, wrapping an arm around her.
“For being you.” She rested her head on his chest. “For everything.”
He kissed the top of her head. “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”
They sat like that, sharing the gentle hum of a new day.
Later, they walked hand in hand across campus. Students waved, unaware of the storm they had weathered. Brielle felt lighter than she had in weeks.
They stopped at her favorite garden, where early flowers had begun to bloom. Damian knelt and picked a small blue blossom. He tucked it behind her ear.
“You look beautiful,” he said.
She blushed, turning to face him. “Only because of you.”
He took both her hands. “I love you, Brielle.” His voice trembled with honesty.
Tears glimmered in her eyes. “I love you too, Damian. More than anything.”
He leaned in, their lips meeting in a soft, tender kiss, slow and full of promise.
When they pulled apart, the world felt new. Every blade of grass, every whispering breeze, seemed to celebrate their love.
They lingered in the garden until the sun climbed high, then headed to class together, wrists still linked.
As they passed the student union, a poster fluttered on the bulletin board: “Spring Art Showcase—Submissions Open.” A perfect chance for Brielle’s paintings.
He paused. “You should enter.”
She glanced at him, eyebrows raised. “Me? My art’s a mess.”
He smiled wide. “It’s you. It’s perfect.”
Her heart fluttered. “Then I will.”
He squeezed her hand. “I’ll be there, front row.”
She leaned into him. School might still whirl around them, but in each other’s arms they’d found a place no scandal, no secret, and no danger could touch.
And as they walked toward the art building, their smiles bright beneath the blossoming trees, the future finally felt sweet and unstoppable.
