Bonus Chapter 11 — Samael’s capture

Samael:

I watch as Galena and our baby rush through the secret door with trepidation before I close it behind them. Turning back, I prepare to fight whoever is rushing up the stairs. It sounds like a stampede of bulls is heading in my direction.

Letting my demon loose, I let my eyes change into their icy color, extend my claws, and release my fangs. My body swells with power as rage courses through me.

As soon as the door bursts open, I fight. A group of hellhounds burst through the doors, their claws out as they begin to slash. Using my sword skills, I tear through their bodies, slicing their heads and limbs, but they keep coming.

My body bows as claws dig into my back. Falling forward, I manage to rip away from the claw and slice at the hound, but another grips my arm. I kick out as my sword clatters onto the floor and rip another hound’s arm.

Its grey body shudders, and it’s wolflike snout curls. Outside of their human forms, hellhounds are not pretty creatures. They are gray, with large, stout pitbull bodies, very little hair, and rounded heads with tiny cauliflower ears, beady dark eyes, and pug-like snouts.

While I’m tearing through one, another jumps on my back, but before he can bite me, I flip him over my head and toss him into a nearby wall.

My vision blurs as I continue to fight the endless amounts of hellhounds that keep coming through the door.

It’s a bloody siege, and I’m in the middle of it.

Taking a couple of steps back, I cover my bleeding wounds and continue to fight. Blood and gore decorate the walls and floor until you only see dead hounds.

But it’s a futile effort because they keep coming. Not seeing what else to do, I gather the demon power inside of me and let it burst out, lighting up every creature in the room. Fire spreads through every limb, scorching the creatures, walls, and floors, but my body grows weaker as I continue to shoot fire. I don’t understand why I’m so weak. My powers have never waned in such a manner. I realize at that moment that something is wrong. My blood feels like it's boiling, I’m nauseous, and my head is pounding, all symptoms of blood poisoning. Somehow, the hounds injected me with Seraph blood. It’s the only thing that makes sense. Seraph blood is poisonous to demons. The symptoms are all there. Bollocks! I think I’m about to fall arse over tit because I’ve been poisoned.

Stumbling back, I jump out of a nearby window as the fire spreads rapidly through the building. It’s a large fall, and my body is jarred as I land on the harsh, cold ground, and glass cuts through my skin, but I don’t stop to take stock of my injuries. Running forward, I manage to make it to a nearby cove of trees.

Once we decided to be together, Galena and I moved to a more rural forested area in California. The town we moved to is miles from the city. We stayed as close to the city as we could because I have people who would help us if we needed to escape. We liked the town because it was adequately small and closeted between the wilderness, which gave us the privacy we needed to live. Unfortunately, it looks like we didn’t run far enough.

As I stumble through the forest, I continue to weaken to the point that I’m nearly crawling. Blinking my eyes, I will my body to fight the poison coursing through it. Slumping down on the ground, I try to rise, but chunks flow out of my lips, and my body quivers painfully.

Just then, a whooshing sound resounds around me. Looking up, I find myself surrounded by two angels and several hell hounds. One of the angels steps forward, his face set in a sneer as he uses his boot to roughly push me onto my back. Crying out in pain, I tighten my lips and fully face the angels. Both angels have golden hair and eyes, as well as large feathered wings. Based on the color of their feathers, I can see that they’re seraphim.

“Where’s Galena?” The seraphim scream out, enraged.

I close my eyes, trying to concentrate on the angel. It’s him. It’s Galena’s brother, Lukan. For years, Galena was adamant that he’d find her. Her fear was so palpable that it pained me. Mustering as much energy as I can, I spit the blood gathering between my lips and face the angel. “I’m not telling you a bloody thing, so why don’t you bugger off, you git!”

The angel’s fist connects with my jaw, making my body snap hard into the ground from the impact. Blood gushes from my nose, but I don’t let the darkness of oblivion overtake me. I need to find Galena.

“Where the fuck is she?!” He yells out as he continues to strike me. My body flinches at the impact, the crunching sound of my bones breaking echoing through the stillness of the night.

Coughing out blood, I tighten my jaw and give him a cutting glare. “Fuck off, you arse!”

He’s about to strike me again but stops when another angel shows up and mutters words that I dread hearing. “We found her. We locked her up and restrained her until you’re ready to deal with her.”

The angel’s lips curl with derision and delight. “Good.” He nods his head in my direction and waves to one of the hellhounds. “Take him and meet us back at the vault.”

As soon as the last word slips from his lips, a sharp pain reverberates through my skull, and darkness overwhelms me.
