Chapter 750 Two Isadoras?
Chapter 750 Two Isadoras?
I couldn't shake the feeling that Renee's expression was disturbingly off, like it wasn't something a living person should have.
As the sky grew darker, cold sweat started forming on my back.
"No thanks, we're gonna pass on dinner," I said.
Renee looked disappointed when she heard that.
Who knows what she was disappointed about.
"Alright then, I guess I'll enjoy my delicious dinner alone," Renee shrugged and walked away, not bothering to clean up the ashes at the crossroads.
After Renee left, I still felt a bit surreal. What was she here for? Surely she wasn't just burning that fake money?
Could the fake money Renee burned have had some crucial evidence written on it?
Thinking of this, I quickly glanced at the ashes at the crossroads and sighed.
I had to admit, Renee burned those things thoroughly; not even a corner of paper was left.
"Let's head back," I said, rubbing my temples. This place suddenly felt a bit eerie.
Royce nodded and led us toward where we parked.
Just then, a gust of wind blew past, making my hair stand on end. Even though the weather wasn't cold, it felt like I was in the middle of winter.
But that feeling was fleeting and quickly disappeared.
Back in the car, I finally felt alive again and let out a sigh of relief.
But I still couldn't understand why Renee was burning fake money.
A few days later, the incident of the girl falling into the water was officially ruled an accident.
This time, not many people questioned it since the investigation process and results were clear and straightforward.
After reading the news, I turned off the TV. My phone was still being checked, so I had to use a backup phone.
The backup phone could only make calls and send texts, lacking other features.
Isadora came to see me again, but she looked better than before.
"The girl's family background is quite unusual, you knew that, right?" Isadora asked.
I shook my head and explained, "I suspected as much but didn't investigate."
"Well, you don't need to investigate. Her father has some influence in prison," Isadora frowned and continued.
"Remember I told you I saw someone who looked like Brandon? I investigated it."
I held my breath, my mind racing with possibilities and guesses.
The next second, Isadora said, "It seems it was just someone with a similar build. Brandon is still in prison."
"Are you sure Brandon hasn't been released yet?" I was shocked and couldn't help but ask.
Isadora nodded, "At least that's what my investigation shows. If you don't believe it, you can visit the prison again."
That was a good idea. Even though I didn't want to see Brandon, he might be the only one who can answer our questions.
"You came to see me, not just for this, right?" I asked Isadora.
Isadora nodded, "About my sister, do you think there's a chance of finding out the truth?"
"I don't know, but if we don't take proactive measures, our chances might be zero."
I looked directly at Isadora after saying that.
Isadora nodded, "I get what you're saying."
"Though I'd love to tell you to let go of the past and move forward, I haven't managed to do that myself, so I won't."
I smiled at Isadora.
Just then, her phone rang from her office. She seemed to have something urgent and left quickly after saying goodbye.
I sank back into my chair and opened my computer, but I couldn't focus on work.
My mind was tangled with thoughts. Isadora must be facing something; otherwise, she wouldn't doubt herself like this.
But Isadora didn't say anything, and as friends, we shouldn't pry too much into her private matters.
Royce brought my phone back, and they found a remote virus in it.
This virus could monitor changes in my phone's information in real-time, but it was unstable, and the stolen information was random and variable.
"Why are they using this trick again? I've changed phones so many times already," I said, rubbing my temples in frustration.
But in today's society, it's impossible to live completely without a phone.
"If it gets too bad, we can use landlines to communicate," Royce suggested, feeling helpless too.
I told Royce about Isadora's visit, but he frowned.
"Are you saying Isadora came to see you just now?"
I hadn't realized the seriousness of the issue and nodded.
"Yeah, why?"
Royce pursed his lips, "But Isadora was supposed to have a news interview or live broadcast today, and it hasn't ended yet."
I frowned, opened my computer, and searched for Isadora's name. Sure enough, a live broadcast link popped up.
I clicked on it without hesitation and saw Isadora answering reporters' questions.
If the Isadora in the live broadcast was real, then who was the one who came to see me?
I felt a chill run down my spine. Thankfully, the Isadora who visited didn't do anything harmful, just asked a few questions.
"Pull up the office surveillance footage and let's take a look," Royce said worriedly.
I agreed and had the surveillance footage sent over. Upon opening it, we saw Isadora walking into my office.
In the footage, Isadora chatted with me for a few minutes before taking a call and leaving.
"Her phone seemed fine. Could the Isadora in the live broadcast be the fake one?"
I pondered and voiced my guess.
"So the call Isadora received in the footage might have been about the live broadcast," Royce mused, nodding thoughtfully. "We'll only know once we contact Isadora herself."
Could there really be identical people? Maybe the Red Spider Lily organization had made some breakthrough, like cloning...
They must be conducting human experiments again. Truly a bunch of demons.
"I'll call Isadora," I said to Royce, looking at the live broadcast. "Let's see if she answers."
