Beanie's Mistake

Beanie's Mistake
Osprey
I sat on the edge of my seat as I waited for the last bell to ring. I was in a hurry to get to Scarlett. Silver had been hanging around her too much the last few days for my comfort. While she seemed completely at ease with his presence, I was not. She was mine, and I did not appreciate him trying to get back into her good graces. The bell rang, and I was out the door in seconds to wait outside of Scarlett’s classroom for her. Beanie stopped beside me.
“Goddess, Osprey. What is with you? I thought you were giving her space!” He said.
I bared my teeth as Silver started heading down the hallway. Beanie cursed beside me as I stormed down the hallway to stop in front of him with my arms crossed over my chest.
“Go away, Silver!” I growled.
He sighed as he stuck his hands in his pockets. “Osprey, I’m sorry that I hurt her. I really am but-”
I shoved him backward. “No! You are going to stay away from her! I’m serious. She doesn’t need you in her life.”
“You’re right. I’m sorry. I just thought… never mind.”
I glared at his back as he walked away. Goddess, he was infuriating. I heard Scarlett’s laughter floating on the air behind me, and I spun around to hurry back to her. She threw herself into my arms, still giggling at the look on Beanie’s face.
“Absolutely not, Elena. I forbid it!” He growled at his mate, making me groan.
Her back straightened. Oh, fuck. He was in trouble. I didn’t even boss Elena around.
“YOU FORBID ME?!” She shouted, poking him in the chest. “LISTEN, HERE, MISTER! I CAN DO WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT! IF I WANTED TO TAKE SCARLETT TO THE MOON, I WOULD DO SO!” No, the fuck she would not! “YOU WILL BE FINE WITHOUT ME FOR AN HOUR! YOU DON’T SEE OSPREY COMPLAINING ABOUT IT!”
“Complaining about what?” I asked as dread filled me.
“They want to go somewhere but don’t want us to know where. What if something happens? Huh, Elena? Answer me!”
“I’ll fucking handle it like I handle everything else.”
Scarlett turned in my arms to put her arm around my neck. “I want to go with Elena.”
“What are you going to do?”
“We can’t tell you.”
“Where are you going to be?”
“We can’t tell you that either.”
I hesitated before nodding. “Alright.”
Beanie’s head snapped around to glare at me. “What the fuck are you doing, Osprey?”
“Trusting my mate. You should try it.”
Elena glared at him while I cupped Scarlett’s face. “You know the only thing I ask of you.”
She stood on her tip-toes to kiss me softly. “I promise you that if I need you, I will link you.”
“Good girl.”
She hugged me quickly before looping her arm through Elena’s to drag her away from Beanie. I narrowed my eyes at him as they walked away.
“Wanna go to the weight room while we wait for them?”
“I guess,” he mumbled as he shoved his hands into his pockets.
We hurried toward the weight room while our mates were Goddess knows where. I was totally stressed out, not knowing what they were up to. I could see it all over Beanie’s face that he was just as anxious and needed something to distract him, just like I did. We changed into our gym clothes before warming up. About ten minutes into our workout, I sighed.
“You know you fucked up, right? Elena is not going to let you live that down. You can’t talk to her like that,” I told him.
“I know. I just snapped. I don’t like not knowing where she is going to be. I can’t get to her if she needs me.”
I sighed. “I get it, Beanie, but you also have to understand that Elena would give her life for Scarlett, and Scarlett would give her life for Elena. They are a better team than we are. They will be okay, and besides, I’m sure that they will take Laura with them. Jarrod told me that he asked her to watch over Scarlett.” I stopped to chuckle. “Not that I think he had to. Those two are thick as thieves. I’m so glad I like Stu. I have a feeling we are going to be spending a lot of time together.”
“Speaking of Jarrod, you never told me what he said at the funeral.”
“Oh. He offered his condolences for our loss and then asked if he could see Toya.”
“How did he know she was there? The entire sleuth didn’t go. Did you finally tell him that she was your sister?”
“No. I was going to, but she was so upset when he asked her out.”
Beanie set the weight back on the bars, rolling his shoulders back. “Yeah, I wouldn’t jump on being a Luna at 11 either. We should tell him. If he is truly her mate, he needs to be patient, and you need to stop pushing her. It’s not fair to her.”
“I know. I just want to show her that I support her in whatever choice she makes. I did tell him that she wasn’t ready, and he needed to give her space.” I let the straps go before putting my hands on my knees. “It’s so hard knowing that they’re mates and not being able to force them together. I’m starting to understand why my parents did what they did. I just want her to be happy. Jarrod’s a good guy. I know he’d take care of her.”
“Yeah, he would. Hell, I saw the look on his face before he left. He was devastated when she ended things with him.”
“Yeah. I wonder if the rest of my siblings are going to have such a hard time accepting their mates.”
“I hope not, ‘cuz I’m stressed the fuck out right alongside you. Want to go get some food while we’re waiting for the girls?”
I laughed. “Sure. Maybe we could get the girls a snack.”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “And a pumpkin spice shake for Elena.”
I thumped his shoulder while I howled with laughter. “She’s not going to forgive you that easily, brother.”
He groaned. “Don’t remind me.”
We walked into the showers to clean up before getting dressed in our school clothes. As we were walking out to my car, Scarlett’s link opened, and panic came through, making me freeze.
‘Where are you? What’s going on?’
‘Football f-field,’ she sobbed.
I spun around, sprinting toward the field with Beanie on my ass, looking as furious as I felt. Elena must have linked him, too. Godric pushed me faster, threatening to shift. As we rounded the building, screams of pain came from the stands, while even more screams came from the ground in front of it. We picked up even more speed as the screams got louder. Fuck! Goddess, please let her be okay.
A body landed on the ground in front of me, making me trip as we came around the edge of the stands. I scrambled up as I looked around wildly to find Scarlett. Elena stood in front of her protectively with her arm up, preventing her from moving forward while Laura tore into the cheerleaders on the ground. I looked up into the stands to see Silver whooping more wolves on the landing there. I rushed to Scarlett’s side, taking her immediately into my arms and freeing Elena to launch herself into the stands along with Beanie to help Silver.
“What happened?”
She wrapped herself tightly around me. “We were just trying to become cheerleaders so we could cheer for you at your games, and the wolves showed up, and they were… they were shouting things at me.”
My blood ran cold. “What were they yelling at you?”
“They were saying to shake it. Show us your ass again. Can’t wait to have you bent over again. Cheerleaders are just sluts for the football team. Get on your knees, bitch, and stuff like that.”
I turned my head to glare at the wolves, who were all subdued now.
“And those bitches were even worse, telling her that they heard she liked to deepthroat and be double penetrated,” Laura growled from beside me.
I let out an angry breath, trying to hold Godric back from tearing into the assholes who had the nerve to say such cruel things to our mate. I held her tightly in my arms as Beanie, Elena, and Silver came to stand in front of us. I picked up Scarlett, holding her close to my body while I glared at Silver.
“Was this your doing?” I seethed.
“No, Osprey. He tried to get them to stop,” Scarlett whimpered.
My arms tightened around her. “Why the hell are you even here?”
“I… I can’t help it,” he mumbled.
“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN’T HELP IT?!” I yelled.
Silver didn’t respond as he looked down at the ground, sticking his hands in his pockets. Scarlett put her hands on my face, tilting my face so I was looking down at her.
“Please don’t be mean to Silver. He really was trying to help.”
“That doesn’t explain why he was around you when I told him to leave you alone,” I snapped.
She narrowed her eyes on me before wiggling to get down, which I promptly refused to do. She pushed on my shoulder, and I narrowed my eyes on her.
“No, Letti. You’re not going to win this. He is the most responsible for the worst week of your life, along with your death. I do not want him around you!”
