Chapter 66 Far More Complex

He struggled desperately, trying to break free, but the ropes dug tightly into his wrists and ankles, cutting into his flesh and exposing the white of his bones, rendering him immobile.

His eyes were filled with terror, bloodshot and bulging as if they were about to burst from their sockets.

Lawrence and his group stood nearby, watching with indifference. Their faces bore eerie smiles, their lips curling into cruel arcs, resembling bloodthirsty demons. Lawrence's eyes were filled with malevolence, a chilling coldness lurking deep within.

Finally, Lawrence gently flicked Ralph's eyelids with his fingers, savoring the fear in his eyes. He looked like a deranged artist, meticulously examining his work, his eyes gleaming with a sick excitement, relishing the sadistic pleasure.

Seeing this, my heart sank completely. A massive wave of anger, like a volcanic eruption, consumed all my rationality. I clenched my fists tightly, my nails digging into my flesh, blood seeping through my fingers. I felt like my veins were about to burst.

My teeth ground together, and I wanted nothing more than to tear Lawrence apart, to make him suffer the same pain. There was no doubt he was the "Mentor" we had been searching for.

"Alan! Brian! Move now!" I roared. "Arrest Lawrence! He's the 'Mentor'! Don't let him escape!"

Alan and Brian responded immediately. They were both people who despised evil, and seeing Lawrence's cruelty filled them with rage. They too wanted to capture Lawrence and bring him to justice.

I sprang to my feet and rushed out of Lawrence's place, with Sophia close behind, her face pale with worry.

"Mr. Williams, calm down!" Sophia tried to stop me.

"I know!" I gritted my teeth, not slowing my pace, my mind focused solely on capturing Lawrence and bringing him to justice.

We quickly found Lawrence. To our surprise, he seemed to be waiting for us, a twisted smile on his face, a sinister laugh escaping his lips. His body began to tremble slightly, his eyes growing wild and distorted.

"You finally came," Lawrence said slowly. "I've been waiting for you."

As soon as he finished speaking, Alan lunged at him, grabbing his arm and yanking him from his chair. Lawrence didn't resist, allowing Alan to hold him, still wearing that eerie smile.

"Don't touch me!" Lawrence suddenly broke free from Alan's grip with lightning speed. He grabbed a glass bottle from the table and splashed its contents at Alan. A pungent, corrosive smell filled the air instantly.

"Watch out!" I shouted, rushing forward and pulling Alan away. The corrosive liquid hit the floor, burning a large hole in the carpet, white smoke rising and a foul odor spreading.

Seeing his attack fail, Lawrence dashed towards the window, trying to escape. No way I was letting him get away. I leaped forward, grabbing his arm and yanking him back from the window.

"You're not going anywhere!" I snarled, gripping his arm tightly, my eyes locked with determination to bring him to justice and stop him from hurting anyone else.

Lawrence looked at me, despair washing over his face. He let out a piercing scream and suddenly grabbed a fruit knife from the table, plunging it into his chest.

"No!" Sophia cried out in shock.

I was stunned. I hadn't expected Lawrence to commit suicide. I tried to stop him, but it was too late. The fruit knife had already pierced his chest, blood spurting out and staining his clothes. His body convulsed violently, his face contorted in pain, his eyes filled with regret. He collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

Blood spread across the floor like blooming crimson flowers, the air thick with the smell of blood.

Lawrence's body twitched slightly, his eyes wide open, as if he wanted to say something, but no sound came out. His body gradually lost its warmth, and he finally stopped breathing, his eyes filled with despair. Though he escaped prison through suicide, his soul would still face judgment.

I looked at Lawrence's corpse, feeling no pity, only deep-seated anger. He was a deservedly damned demon, and his death was a relief, preventing him from causing more harm.

I crouched down to examine Lawrence's body closely. I noticed a strange tattoo on his chest, a twisted symbol of a black arm entwined with a snake and a blood-red bat.

It was identical to the symbol we had seen in the library books. This symbol, combined with Lawrence's identity as the "Mentor," made us suspect it was connected to "The Invisible Hand." This case was far more complex than I had imagined.

I stood up and looked at Alan and Brian. Their faces were grim as they stared at Lawrence's body, their eyes filled with a mix of anger, regret, and helplessness.

"Brian, search Lawrence's office thoroughly. Don't miss a single clue!" I ordered.

Brian nodded and got to work immediately, with Alan assisting him. Sophia walked over to me, her eyes filled with concern.

"Mr. Williams, are you okay?" Sophia asked, her voice full of worry.
