The Gods Descend

The Gods Descend
Elowen POV

I must’ve passed out again. Not from sleep, because that was long gone. No, this was the kind of unconsciousness your body forces on you when the pain is too much and your soul needs five seconds of silence.

And in that quiet… something changed. A soft breeze stirred the stale air. Not the sharp, metallic stink of the Crucible, but something gentle. Cool. Familiar. Starlight.

“Elowen…” Lyssira’s voice, gentle and warm, pulled me upward. Her spirit pressed against mine like a cloak of safety and strength. “Wake up, Moonborn. She’s here.”

I blinked, barely able to move my eyes. Everything hurt. Every part of me was stiff or broken or healing again. But there...just past the flickering torchlight, standing beside the altar like she had always belonged...was her.

Elanithra. The Star Goddess. She shimmered like moonlight on water, her long hair woven with constellations, her robes floating like they were made of cloud and dust. Her presence wrapped around me like a lullaby made of stars. She didn’t speak. She just lifted her hand and touched my forehead with a single glowing finger.

And suddenly, they were there, in my mind. Clear as day.

Daxon's voice, "Elowen... baby, you gotta hold on. Just a few more hours. Around 9 a.m. we're coming. You'll hear the ground shake. You'll hear us breaking down every door and wall between us. I love you. You're not alone. Never were."

Ashrian followed, quietly. "I dream of you every night. I replay our last kiss until I'm sick with it. You're my heart, El. I'll burn their temples to ash to get you back."

Bram's voice was rougher. "You're stronger than they'll ever understand. Just wait. One more sunrise. I swear I'll be the one to carry you out."

Lachlan, "We're comin', lass. Moon above me, gods below. We'll get you out and then we'll make 'em pay."

Vaelrix was last, "Elowen, my moon, my heart. Please hold on. We will be there soon. We are nothing without you."

I couldn’t stop the sob that broke out of me. It cracked through my ribs and clawed up my throat. Silent tears spilled down my temples, trailing through blood and grime and old bruises. My body shook, barely, but enough. I hadn’t cried in days. Hadn’t allowed it. I couldn’t afford to.

But now? Now I let myself feel it. Just for a moment. Their voices echoed through my bones, through my soul. The bond sang like wildfire in my chest. My mates. My men. My gods.

They were coming. Lyssira pressed her muzzle against the back of my mind. “One more dawn, El. Just one more. You’ve made it through hell....don’t quit now.”

I swallowed hard, my voice raw as I whispered, “I’m so tired…”

“Then rest in me,” Lyssira said softly, “But do not give up. Let the goddess carry you.”

Elanithra leaned in, brushing a hand over my hair like a mother soothing a child. “Hold, little moonlight. They will break every chain. I will see to it.”

And then she was gone. But the warmth lingered. Their voices lingered. Their love filled every crack the torture had left. I clenched my fingers around the metal restraints. My wrists burned. My stomach throbbed where Vaela had stabbed me hours ago. My lips were cracked, my body wrecked.

But my soul? Still mine. Still whole. Still burning. Tomorrow, I would see them again.

And someone was going to fucking pay.

Ashrian Vale POV

The scent of fresh blood, charred meat, and coffee wafted through the pre dawn air like the breath of war. Four a.m., and Stormclaw Keep was alive. Not with panic, no. This wasn’t fear. This was anticipation.

Calculated fury. The kind of buzzing, crackling tension you could drink.

I stood on the upper terrace just outside the main courtyard, my long coat flaring behind me. I was watching as the Dragon Temple, completed not twelve hours ago, glowed with divine power. It was a holy fortress now, built into the obsidian cliffs like it had been carved by gods themselves. Already, dragons knelt in rows beneath the soaring archway, their massive forms bowed in reverence, scales catching the early starlight as they gave strength to the dragon gods.

It was… awe inspiring. Even for a vampire who’d seen nearly everything. I turned, my eyes scanning the chaos below. The courtyard was packed with wolves, shifters, mages, fae, witches, dragons, humans and even lycans all fueling up on breakfast like they were going to war. Because they were.

Daxon was already half armored, his fangs bared as he poured black coffee into his mouth like it might keep his rage in check. Bram was talking tactics with King Halrik and Queen Nira near the edge of the weapon racks, his muscles on full display as he strapped on gauntlets.

Taya was helping Captain Lya Monroe pass out enchanted daggers, while Rylen was checking the comm crystals. Lachlan was a blur, moving from one warrior to the next, his brogue thick as he personally layered wards over every single soldier.

“Ye’ve got three charges,” he was saying, pressing glowing runes onto a dragon shifter’s shoulder. “Each one’ll take a hit, after that, yer on yer own. Dinnae waste ‘em.”

Behind him, Isolde and Alaric were working with the witches and mages, forming protective sigils in the air, anchoring them to breastplates, helms, and even boots. Their movements were sharp, methodical, and perfect. “Strength enchantment will last three hours,” Isolde called out, her voice like steel. “Make them count.”

The earth itself thrummed. And then......They arrived. A blast of divine energy hit the courtyard like a tidal wave. Every warrior stilled. The air went silent. Four glowing forms descended from the sky, light pouring from them in all directions like liquid sun and starlight.

The Goddesses. And the Sun God.

Verenya, Earth Mother, stepped forward first, trailing vines and stone and scent of wild groves. She raised her hands to her witches and mages, her voice soft but commanding. “You are my roots. My will. I bless you with endurance and boundless strength. Your magic will not fail you today.”

Elanithra, Star Goddess, radiant in her silver robes and stardust crown, turned to the Fae and dragon riders, her eyes glowing like constellations. “You are the bridge between realms. I bless your minds with clarity and unity. You may now move with vampire speed and your wounds will heal faster!”

Gasps broke out, and I was so excited. This would be a huge advantage in battle. Speed and faster healing. We would be damn near unstoppable.

Selene, Moon Goddess, stepped through the fog, her voice a lullaby turned war cry. She placed her glowing hand over the wolves and lycans. “You are my fury. My shadow. My sons and daughters of instinct. I bless your senses, your bond, your survival. You will not fall.”

Finally, the Sun God descended in fire and golden flame, eyes like twin suns, his voice booming through the stones. “To the beasts,” he roared, placing his hands on Bram’s shoulders, “I give renewal. Healing. Endurance beyond what flesh allows. Rise with my fire. And do not stop until the enemy is ash.”

Bram fell to one knee. “We won’t.”

The energy spiked again, and the dragons came. The sky split. Three enormous beings formed from fire, void, and sky.

Zeryx, Nythoril, and Saelirra. The Dragon Gods.

They didn’t descend so much as fold reality around them, shimmering into existence at the edge of the temple, where hundreds of dragons now knelt in reverence. Their combined voice echoed into every soul present.

“To the dragons, we give the gift of unity. Mindlink, pack style. Fight as one. Move as one.”

“And to our warriors…” Saelirra’s voice was like skyfire, warm and lethal....You will no longer be bound by a single element. All dragons who take up arms today may wield them all.”

Gasps. Roars. Screaming laughter. A golden scaled warrior dropped to his knees. “I can feel it,” he sobbed. “I can breathe ice.”

The whole courtyard exploded in sound. Cheers. Roars. Howls. The crackle of magic filled the air like fireworks before a siege. I stepped forward to the eastern platform and raised my hand. Behind me stood my 300 vampire rogues, clad in dark armor, weapons humming with blood forged enchantments.

“Vampires, with me!” I called out. “We bleed for her. We fight for her. And we do not stop until Elowen is home and their temple is burning.”

Daxon shouted next, “Wolves! TO THE GATES!”

Bram raised his axe. “Shifters, form up!”

Lachlan, glowing with runes, turned to the witches. “Circle formation, ye know yer orders!”

Vaelrix appeared beside me, his cloak fluttering. “This is it.”

I nodded, my hand tight on my sword hilt. “No mercy.”

All around us, divine power surged. Weapons were drawn. Armor clicked into place. Runes blazed. Dragons roared.

And somewhere out there, our girl was still holding on.

Not for long.
