Chapter 18 Chapter Eighteen

Chapter 18 Chapter Eighteen
Mateo slides his hands down to my ass. "I guess this really is a thank you dance." He winks and I hide my face is his chest.

We keep dancing for a while. Several songs go by, we keep talking, dancing and laughing. I didn't even realize how late it was until I feel my phone buzzing in my pocket.

I pull away from Mateo fishing my phone out of my pocket. It's Brad calling. "Do you need to take that?" Mateo asks.

"Yeah probably. He's probably wondering if he needs to come pick me up. I told him I wouldn't be out real late." I say giving him an apologetic smile.

I try to answer, but then realize he couldn't hear me even if I tried to answer. So I text him.

Me: Is everything okay?

Brad: Yes baby. It's getting late are you ready for me to pick you up.

I look at Mateo and then at the time. It's eleven thirty, wow I didn't realize it was that late.

Me: Yes please. Sorry I didn't realize it's this late.

Brad: See you in a few.

I smile at Mateo. "Brad is on his way to get me. Thank you for the dances and for your help. It was nice to meet you."

Mateo smiles. "Let me walk you outside. I will wait with you."

"No that's okay. I will be fine. Goodnight Mateo."

"Goodnight Makenzie. It was nice to meet you too." Mateo says and I wave as I walk towards the front door.

I walk up to the front door and step outside. Brad should be here any minute. I stand on the sidewalk looking around at all the cars passing by. It's surprisingly busy for being this late at night.

I stand out there feeling more nervous by the second. Come on Brad, hurry up please. I stand out there for five minutes and decide I should probably go back inside. Right as I turn around to go back inside, Mateo appears by my side.

"Mateo, what are you doing out here?" I ask, surprised.

"I didn't feel comfortable letting you wait out here by yourself." He says looking around.

"How did you know I was still out here?" I ask, my paranoia taking over again.

Mateo chuckles. "I didn't. I was coming out here to see if you were still waiting. Your boyfriend isn't here yet?"

I shake my head. "No. He should be here anytime though. Brad probably got stuck in traffic or something."

Mateo nods. "That's okay. I will just wait out here with you."

"Thank you. That is nice of you." I whisper, looking around. I really don't know what's taking him so long.

A few minutes later Brad shows up in our landlords truck. What the hell is he doing in Jack's truck?

Brad gets out of the truck and rushes over to me. "I am so sorry. Our car wouldn't start. I had to borrow Jack's truck and he wasn't even going to let me borrow it until he heard I was coming to get you." Brad rambles on and I put my hand on his shoulder.

"It's okay. I was fine out here waiting for you. I was starting to worry a little about you though." I say laughing a little to try and calm him down.

The truth is I was more than a little worried. I was starting to wonder if something bad had happened to him. If Mateo hadn't came out here when he did, I probably would have been in a full blown panic already.

"Sorry." Brad says again making a face.

"It's okay." I give him a soft smile and turn to Mateo.

"Thank you Mateo for waiting with me and for the company tonight." I give him a quick hug and I can tell he is surprised by my actions.

When I pull away he is smiling. "You're very welcome Makenzie. You guys have a nice night and be careful getting home."

"Goodnight" Brad says.

"Goodnight." I say waving to him as me and Brad get in the truck.

We pull away from the entrance and I glance back to see Mateo watching us drive off. "So did you have a nice night with Mateo? That's what you called him right?" Brad asks and I feel my cheeks heat up. I forgot I didn't tell him Mateo's name.

"Umm yeah." I say nervously. "I had a nice time. I didn't see him until a little later in the night though. I was dancing with the bartender for a little bit."

Brad glances over at me. "You were dancing with the bartender?" He asks laughing.

I giggle. It sounds kind of funny when you say it out loud. "Yeah. He asked me to dance on his break, so I said yes."

"Well that sounds like a fun time. Was he a good dancer?" Brad asks and I can hear the amusement in his voice.

I shrug laughing harder. "Yeah he actually was a pretty good dancer."

Brad laughs. "So how did you go from dancing with the bartender to waiting outside with our gorgeous mystery man Mateo?" Brad asks.

I laugh. "Well I went to the bar for a drink and the bartender told me he had a break coming up and asked me to dance. While I was dancing with him Mateo showed up and asked to take over." I explain.

Brad quirks an eyebrow at me. "So you dropped the bartender for Mateo?"

"What? No. That would have been so rude." I exclaim, how dare he think I would do that.

Brad bursts out laughing, shrugging his shoulders. "It was just a question."

"No I turned Mateo down cause he was being cocky and acted like I wanted to be with him." I say rolling my eyes.

Brad pulls up in our apartment building parking lot and turns to me. "That still doesn't explain how you ended up with Mateo."

"I'm getting there." I say laughing.

Brad laughs. "I'm impatient. I want to know how you ended up with Mateo."
