“Don’t worry. We surgeons always carry post–exposure medication with us and get screened regularly every year.”
Jamison had never dared to get careless about this.
Whenever the situation was unclear, he’d rather wait a little longer than risk putting himself in danger. After all, taking care of himself meant he could stay in this profession longer and save more lives.
At dinner, they’d had a feast of barbecue, but Ivy barely ate a thing–leaving Jamison to finish most of it.
By the time they got back to the faculty apartments, it was past ten, and Ivy’s stomach was already growling with hunger.
Jamison really did spoil his wife. While she was in the shower, he slipped out, headed down to the shops on the nearby high street, and picked up some late–night
snacks for her.
As soon as Ivy stepped out of the bathroom, she wrinkled her nose, sniffing the air. “What’s that smell?”
“Honestly, you have the nose of a bloodhound,” Dr. Ludwig teased, smiling as he called her over. “I brought you something to eat. Let’s see if you’ve got your
appetite back.”
something to
Ivy walked over to the table and gaped in surprise. “Spicy noodles? Rice pudding? And vegetable soup? You went out and bought all these?”
He shrugged. “Wasn’t sure what you’d want, so I just grabbed a few things.”
“Thank you, babe. I love all of it.” Ivy sat down, about to dig in, then suddenly turned back to kiss him quickly on the cheek.
Jamison loved it when she was playful and spontaneous; he held her close, stealing two more kisses before finally letting her eat, then headed off to wash up himself.
But when you’re that hungry, it’s easy to overdo it.
By midnight, sprawled on the bed and rubbing her stomach, Ivy groaned, “This is all your fault. You brought home so much food–I’m stuffed to death.”
She wasn’t worried about gaining weight, just too full to sleep.
Jamison gave her a wicked grin, rolling over to pull his petite wife into his arms and kissing her. “Now that you’re full, shouldn’t you feed me too?”
Ivy’s face froze as she pretended not to understand, refusing to answer.
“I bought all that food on purpose,” he murmured in her ear, “so you’d have enough energy to last through the night.”
She glared at him and raised her hand to smack him, but he caught her wrist, laughing, and rolled on top of her to kiss her deeply.
In the heat of the moment, Ivy turned her head, catching sight of something on the bedside table, and suddenly her mind cleared.
“When did you buy those?” she asked, staring at his handsome face hovering above her.
Jamison glanced over. “Picked them up tonight, when I went out for
your snacks.”
“Oh, really? So buying those was your main goal, and the snacks were just an excuse, huh?”
He feigned innocence. “Slander! I only went out because you said you were hungry. Then I saw them in the convenience store and remembered we needed more…”
Ivy eyed him suspiciously.
“Though I’m not sure about that brand. Next time, I’ll grab a few boxes of the kind we used before from the big supermarket.”
A few boxes!
Ivy rolled her eyes in exasperated delight, feeling both happy and embarrassed.
“Honestly… we could just skip them.” She looked at him, her cheeks flushing. After all, she wasn’t exactly easy to get pregnant. Why bother with the hassle?
“Skip what?” Jamison was momentarily confused.
When he caught her gaze, realization dawned. “You’re that eager to have a baby?”
“I just want to know if it’s really that difficult.”
He stroked her cheek. “Let’s not try yet. When you finish school and you’re truly ready, we can give it a go.”
Jamison always considered things from her perspective, thinking of every detail.
Besides, he wasn’t quite ready to give up their private world for a baby just yet.
Chapter 596
It worked out perfectly–he could use this time to help Ivy recover, too.
