Jayden’s pov: The kiss

What the heck? What is he doing here? Why would Liam come to me after everything? After humiliating me, after calling me pathetic, now he wants to beg me not to leave? It doesn’t make sense. I told him I was leaving. Why didn’t he try to stop me then? Why now?

I turned to walk away, but then a car came speeding down the street, heading straight for him. My heart dropped to my stomach. No, no, not now. I rushed forward, almost without thinking. I grabbed him, pulling him out of the way just in time. The car swerved past us, missing us by inches. I looked down at him. His eyes were wide with shock, his chest rising and falling quickly. What the heck? How did he even get here so fast?

“Liam, are you okay?” I asked, my voice a little shaky.

He blinked up at me, his face pale. “I’m fine,” he whispered, but I could see the fear in his eyes. He wasn’t fine. I could feel the tension in his body.

Before I could say anything more, his eyes fluttered shut. I cursed under my breath. “No, Liam! Come on, stay with me!” I scooped him up into my arms, carrying him toward my house.

My heart was racing. What if something was seriously wrong? I couldn’t deal with that right now. Not after everything we’d been through.

I burst through the door, calling out for my mom. “Mom! Mom, help!”

She rushed into the room, her eyes wide with concern. “What happened?”

“I—I don’t know. He just fainted,” I said, almost frantic. “Check him, Mom. Is he okay?”

She immediately got to work, checking his pulse, his breathing. “He’s just in shock, Jayden. He’ll be fine. It’s nothing serious. You did the right thing, bringing him here.”

I let out a shaky breath, trying to calm myself. My mom glanced at me, her expression softening. “He’s gonna be fine. Just let him rest.”

I nodded, feeling the tension leave my body, but it was replaced by something else. I couldn’t stop staring at Liam. He was lying on my bed, looking so peaceful, so innocent. It didn’t make sense. How could someone like him—so sharp with his words, so cold—look so vulnerable now?

My eyes wandered over him. His hair was messy, his lips so full, so... perfect. I blinked quickly, shaking my head. What was I thinking? I didn’t need to be thinking about him like that. He hurt me. He wasn’t supposed to make me feel anything. But... there it was. That tug in my chest, that pull toward him.

“Get a grip, Jayden,” I muttered to myself. “You can’t be thinking about him like this.”

I looked away, trying to clear my mind, but then his eyes opened. Slowly, he blinked, his gaze meeting mine.

“Where am I?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“You’re in my house,” I said, my voice soft. “Are you okay?”

He frowned, lifting his head slightly. “What happened? How did you save me?”

I swallowed hard. I couldn’t tell him the truth. I couldn’t tell him that I wasn’t just a regular guy. I wasn’t human, not like him. I had powers—powers that let me do things that normal people couldn’t.

“I just—I wanted to save you,” I said, my voice steady despite the chaos in my mind.

His eyes searched mine, like he was trying to figure me out. I didn’t know what he saw. I wasn’t going to tell him the truth. Not yet, at least.

“Are you leaving?” I asked, the words coming out before I could stop them. “Are you really going to leave?”

Liam’s face tightened, his lips pressed into a thin line. “I don’t know,” he said slowly, his voice tinged with frustration. “I don’t know what to do. I should just leave, right? You have your life. You have a girl, you have friends. You don’t need me.”

I didn’t want to hear that. I didn’t want to hear him say he was leaving. It hurt more than I expected.

“Please don’t leave,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t want you to go.”

Liam looked at me, his expression torn. “Why? After everything? After what you said to me?”

“I—I was wrong,” I said quickly. “I didn’t mean it. I didn’t mean what I said. I was just... I don’t know. Confused.”

He sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Jayden, I don’t know what you want from me. I don’t know what I want either. I just... I don’t know.”

The silence stretched between us. I wanted to say more, but the words wouldn’t come.

And then, before I could think, before I could stop myself, I leaned forward. I don’t even know why. It wasn’t planned. But his lips were so close, and I could feel the heat between us. The space between us felt too much to handle.

And then... I kissed him.

I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t stop myself. My lips pressed against his, soft at first, then harder as my heart raced.

Liam’s eyes widened in shock, but he didn’t pull away. For a moment, I thought he would, but he didn’t. He didn’t push me away.

The kiss was everything—everything I didn’t know I wanted, everything I never expected. But it was wrong, wasn’t it? We shouldn’t be doing this. After everything, after all the things we said to each other...

But I didn’t care. I didn’t care at that moment.

When we finally pulled apart, I could barely breathe. His eyes were wide, his chest heaving as much as mine.

“What—what was that?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

I shook my head, not knowing how to answer. The words were stuck in my throat.

Liam stared at me, confusion and something else—something deeper—shining in his eyes.

And then he leaned in and kissed me on the lips.

“You can't go in there sir.” The voice of my Mom came before the room to my door, opened widely, revealing my Mom and Liam's Dad.
