Chapter 143 THE LAST DAY
Chapter 143 THE LAST DAY
NARRATOR
He took off running. Mid-stride, his body shifted, ripping his clothes as he summoned his wolf.
He needed to let it out. The pain. The resentment. The rage he’d kept locked inside.
He returned to his chemistry lab one last time and found the spell he’d been looking for in that grimoire.
“Since you gifted it to me, don’t blame me when I use it against you,” a venomous murmur slipped through the dark hall as a forbidden potion began to simmer.
“Are you sure he won’t slip away?” Kaden’s voice sounded from deeper in the woods as they walked into the night.
“Are you doubting my spells?” Agata snapped. “And another thing... what the hell are you two still doing following me around?” She turned, one brow arched.
“What, did we interrupt something, Agatakatiuska of the Jackdaw?” Kaden said, and Isabella couldn’t help covering her mouth, laughing under her breath.
They’d both seen the witch’s real, important name.
“You should know very few have had the honor of knowing my true Fae name, you insufferable brat!” she growled, already ready to leave, magic rising.
“Agata, we didn’t know you were descended from the Fae,” Isabella said, stopping her when she saw her about to vanish.
“Only half Fae. It’s not like I enjoy bragging about being a mixed-blood with those idiots, but people seem impressed by that stupidity,” she said, like it meant nothing... like it wasn’t something powerful and rare.
“Well, if you’re done with the interrogation, I’m leaving...”
“Agata...” Kaden’s voice came out a little more serious than normal, and she turned in the middle of the mist.
“Are you sure the King’s spell will break? Everything we’re doing...”
“If you manage what I explained. It’ll only break with a Letalis Desillusio or...” She paused as she disappeared into nothing, and a twisted smile curled on her lips. “You’re screwed, little prince.”
“Hey, old lady, this is all your fault. Don’t you dare create a spell that crazy again!” Kaden yelled at the fog, only catching a rough laugh fading into the air.
Isabella smiled behind him, watching them bicker like kids.
Agata beside Kaden looked like she’d gotten hundreds of years back.
But Isabella’s smile paled when she remembered that illusion that had felt so real.
When Kaden turned and saw her, she was staring at him with terrified eyes.
“Baby, what is it?” He stepped to her and cradled her pale face in his huge hands.
“I don’t want to fake your death again. I don’t care if it’s a lie... I don’t want to see you like that ever again.” She hugged him tight, breathing him in, hiding in his protective aura.
Kaden held her against his chest, feeling Isabella’s sudden tension.
He’d been too tense too.
All of this runaround didn’t make sense, and still... it was the best plan they’d found to expose the Queen once and for all.
“That’s never going to happen,” he promised, trying to calm her. “Come on. Come with me. Let’s run. Our wolves need to let loose.”
He caught her hand and pulled her close, seduction written all over that handsome face.
They started running through the forest, kicking up fireflies like tiny, fluorescent sparks that made magic under their legs.
Isabella watched, spellbound by that sexy smile. So beautiful. Their souls reaching for each other like they were starving.
“Thera, little wolf, catch me!” Kaden called, letting go of her hand so he could sprint faster, disappearing into the dark foliage and tree trunks.
A wolfish gleam flashed in Isabella’s eyes.
“Baby, tonight I’m the one biting that tasty ass,” Thera’s excited voice purred in her head as her body shifted mid-run, surrendering to the wildness of the earth.
Soft paw pads threw dirt as she chased at full speed after that sweet, delicious prey.
The beautiful dress, shimmering with golden flecks, floated into the night and disappeared between the branches.
Soon, a victorious howl tore through the tangled forest... and the primal mating roar of a Lycan male.
About a kilometer away, a lost blond heard them and frowned.
“Damn. I missed my chance,” Alistair muttered, no longer wandering like an explorer without a compass.
Agata had played her hand, and he couldn’t follow her magic trail to witness the whole spectacle.
Defeated, he headed back to his realm, because the last thing he wanted was to see Kaden’s furry ass fucking in the woods.
He’d find more chances to harass Mrs. Agata if she kept sticking to the Lycan prince like gum.
The story of two bestie princes was about to be born.
The next day, Leonardo showed up to the appointment he’d supposedly scheduled with the Queen.
It was tea time, late afternoon, and orange sunrays lit his dark expression as he walked the hallway leading to Her Majesty’s private chamber.
But when he knocked and felt her order him in, his face turned pleasant and obedient again.
Today would be the last time he ever pretended in his life... and today would be the last time too for that lying bitch.
