Chapter 183

Chapter 183
Sienna's pov

Milo was always tough on me, but after spending so much time together, I knew he wouldn't really hurt me.

But messing with me? That was his favorite hobby.

This wasn't the first time.

Milo: [Didn't you make it back in one piece?]

I could almost imagine his tone just from reading the message.

Mocking, dismissive, like I was making a big deal out of nothing...

"What if I had actually died on the way back? Think Josephine would hate you then?"

I could already predict how Milo would respond.

[It wasn't me who killed you, so why would she hate me? If you died on the way, it just means you're weak.]

As anticipated, I couldn't lay a hand on him through the phone screen—and even if I could, I would stand no chance of winning.

In the end, I gave in.

[The driver died.]

He only replied with a simple "yeah."

So cold, it made me angry. [Don't you have any other reaction?]

It seemed like getting him to say more than a few words was impossible.

[I've seen too many dead people. He's not the first to die under my watch. What kind of reaction do you expect from me? Sadness? Tears? That's something only weaklings like you would do!]

Milo seemed annoyed by me, sending message after message.

[If you really feel bad, find a way to avenge him instead of questioning me here.]

[Do you know who tried to kill you and steal the documents? Do you have any leads to investigate? The place was so remote, how could Julian just happen to pass by?]

[We warned you, but you didn't listen. Now that something happened, all you do is question me. Sienna , you haven't made any progress this past year!]

How long had it been since someone called me by that name?

Even Eleanor wouldn't call me that.

Milo always had a reason to lecture me.

[We both know whether I've made progress or not. I'm not an idiot. I don't need you making all the decisions for me. I hope in the future, we can discuss things together.]

In the end, I softened my tone.

It wouldn't benefit me to fall out with Milo, and he was stubborn. Being nicer didn't cost me anything.

I hesitated for a moment and held back the rest of my words.

It was better not to mention Julian, to avoid any misunderstandings with Milo.

A few minutes passed without a reply from him, and I couldn't hold on any longer. I turned off the lights and went to bed.

After that, I had a few days of rest and relaxation.

The recent shoot had wrapped up, and Julian had given me a few days off. Milo hadn't spoken to me since.

I knew we didn't communicate much, but the unpleasantness of our last conversation still made me feel uneasy.

Of course, even if I didn't plan to reach out to him, I could swallow my pride if I had to.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and I heard Wilder 's mother's voice outside.

"Sienna , take the child out to get some sun."

I was playing with Willow by the bed and looked out the window at the sound.

The sun was shining, and a gentle breeze was blowing. It was a perfect day to be outside.

"Just a moment, we'll be right out."

Only Wilder 's mother had come to get me. She told me her husband had to go out of town for some business.

I quickly got ready and carried Willow downstairs with her.

It was a weekday, so most of the residents were at work or school, making it quiet downstairs.

"By the way, are you getting engaged soon?"

Wilder 's mother brought it up out of the blue, causing me to pause. Then I replied, "Yes, this weekend."

Julian had mentioned he would announce the engagement, making it known throughout Astoria.

I didn't care much about the publicity, so I hadn't paid attention.

It wasn't surprising that Wilder 's mother knew.

"Is he the child's biological father?"

I was a bit taken aback and gave an awkward smile. "Why would you think that?"

Julian and Willow... who would think they were related?

"Isn't he?" Wilder 's mother pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of Julian. "I think they look quite alike. Put them together, and they look like father and daughter."

I was speechless.

She held the phone up to me, and I glanced at it, intending to brush it off.

As I looked at it, Willow and Julian did have some similarities.

Especially their lips and the shape of their faces, which were almost identical.

"See, they look so alike. Sienna , could Mr. Vane really be Willow's biological father?"

Impossible. I knew exactly who Willow's father was.

"He's really not Julian. They just look alike by coincidence. You said she looked like Wilder last time too."

It was too much of a coincidence, but I knew better than anyone that it was just that.

Wilder 's mother seemed skeptical. "True, there are many people who look alike in the world. Maybe I'm overthinking it."

From her tone, it seemed she didn't fully believe it either.

I steadied myself and said, "There were a few girls who looked like me back home, and it caused quite a few misunderstandings."

For now, the topic was dropped.

But I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Julian couldn't be Willow's father.

If the resemblance wasn't a coincidence, what was his connection to Harrison ?

It was too complicated. I hoped I was just overthinking it.

If Wilder 's mother hadn't brought it up, I wouldn't have noticed.

After that, I lost the mood to wander around.

Willow leaned on my shoulder and suddenly started waving her hands.

I had no choice but to support her head, pretending to be angry. "What are you doing? You poked me, you know?"

But Willow kept staring behind me, smiling.

She seemed to be pointing in a direction.

I looked where she was pointing and saw a man standing there.

The man was looking in our direction.

It surprised me that Willow noticed him. A child under one shouldn't be able to see that far.

And that man's figure was too familiar.

"What's wrong? Willow keeps smiling," Wilder 's mother asked, puzzled.

The man was too far away for me to see his face clearly.

But I didn't dare approach him, afraid of seeing a face I didn't want to see.

Yet I stubbornly wanted to know who that person was.

The man just stood there, looking at me, not moving closer.

We just stared at each other from a distance.

"Nothing, Mrs. Orion. I'm a bit tired. Let's go home."

What if it was Harrison ?

If we didn't acknowledge each other, it was like we never met.

Wilder 's mother seemed to sense something was off with me and stayed silent on the way back.

At home, I put Willow to sleep and went to the window to look down.

The man was still there, but now there was a woman with him.

The woman was holding a child, clearly a family.

Maybe it was just my imagination, but I felt like the woman was Kaia.

I impulsively took a photo with my phone and zoomed in, but I still couldn't see their faces clearly.

Just then, Julian called me.

"Sienna , want to come and try on the dress?"
