Chapter 98 Gwyneth Got Played?

Chapter 98 Gwyneth Got Played?

"Go ahead, I dare you! I've got a video of you puking, and I can send it to her too!" Olivia teased.

Gwyneth was taken aback for a second before she wrapped her arms around Olivia's neck.

"Olivia, you actually filmed me? Just wait, I'll get you back for this!" The two girls laughed and headed upstairs, only to find someone inside when they opened the door. Olivia and Gwyneth exchanged quick glances.

"Did you leave the door open?" Olivia asked, knowing Gwyneth's personality, it seemed possible.

Gwyneth shook her head, "No way, I definitely locked it!"

There was a noise from the kitchen, and Kieran appeared, still wearing an apron. He looked at Olivia and Gwyneth with mild annoyance.

"Can you two keep it down? I can hear you from the fourth floor. There are a lot of people living here, aren't you worried about being laughed at?" Kieran said.

Olivia sat down, glaring at Kieran with a cold smile.

"Gwyneth's already a joke around here, isn't she? Living in your house, naively fixing it up for you! Mr. Schmidt, don't you think you owe her an explanation? Are you going to marry her, or are you just stringing her along? Just say it!" Olivia demanded.

Kieran, still holding a dish, looked stunned in front of the dining table.

"Olivia, I came here to cook with good intentions. What are you doing?" Kieran's voice was small and guilty.

"Mr. Schmidt, do you think just because Gwyneth's parents are busy and she's naive, you can treat her reputation like it doesn't matter? She's a girl, living in a man's house and even renovating it herself. If it were your daughter, would you be okay with it?" Olivia shot back.

Kieran was taken aback and looked directly at Gwyneth, who had her head down.

"Gwyneth, that's not what I meant. I just thought it was inconvenient for you to stay in the dorm, so..." Kieran started.

Olivia stared at Kieran. Since she brought up the topic, Kieran had been dodging it, never directly addressing his feelings for Gwyneth.

Olivia shook her head, feeling disappointed.

"Mr. Schmidt, you really are something! I heard you have a fiancée. I thought it was your family's decision, but now it seems you were involved all along. Even if Gwyneth found out, you thought you could just smooth things over with a few words, didn't you??"

Zoey from the forensic department mentioned Kieran's fiancée today. Olivia had her doubts, thinking Zoey might be lying. But since Zoey was related to Kieran, it seemed unlikely she'd lie about his engagement, especially since it happened a year ago.

Olivia was already fuming on her way back. Seeing Kieran now, she couldn't hold back her anger.

"I do have a fiancée, but it was my family's decision, not mine!" Kieran said.

Olivia glared at Kieran and suddenly pulled Gwyneth to her feet, heading for the door.

"Let's go. We'll stay at a hotel tonight. Tomorrow morning, I'll take a day off to help you move," Olivia said, dragging Gwyneth along. Kieran quickly followed.

"Olivia, what are you doing? Gwyneth's injury hasn't healed yet, and this is between her and me. It has nothing to do with you!" Kieran protested.

Olivia almost slapped Kieran but held back for Gwyneth's sake.

"Mr. Schmidt, you're engaged, and now you're telling me it's your family's decision? Seriously, who are you? You're a cop. I won't comment on your morals, but you hurt Gwyneth. I can't just stand by and do nothing. Her parents might not be around, but she's my friend!"

Olivia dragged Gwyneth out of the Special Operations Unit and straight to a nearby hotel. After getting a room, Gwyneth sat in the corner, looking dazed, while Olivia sat beside her, equally lost in thought.

"Olivia, am I really that stupid? I made a fool of myself. If my mom finds out, she'll definitely scold me," Gwyneth said.

Olivia sighed and ruffled Gwyneth's short hair.

"It's not your fault. Why should you be scolded? I thought if you and Mr. Schmidt had a good relationship, it wouldn't matter. But now it seems Mr. Schmidt isn't as responsible as you thought! Maybe he doesn't like you as much as you think!"

As Olivia finished speaking, Gwyneth started crying, and Olivia's eyes reddened too. She had thought Kieran's feelings for Gwyneth were special, stemming from deep affection, but now she wasn't so sure.

"Why are you crying? It's not your fault! Stop crying. Tomorrow morning, we'll go look at houses. If we find one we like, we'll buy it. Gwyneth, we're neither poor nor homeless. Understand?" Olivia was almost furious. If they both could drink, they might have gotten drunk.

Gwyneth's phone kept ringing. Olivia saw it was Kieran calling and decided to turn it off. Since she needed to take a day off, Olivia went outside to make a call but unexpectedly received one from Henry.

"I heard you fainted on the first day of training. Are you okay?" Henry's voice came through, but Olivia didn't want to talk. She didn't want to hear any man's voice right now.

"Kieran asked you to call, didn't he?" Olivia said. Henry didn't respond. Olivia scoffed and was about to hang up when Henry quickly spoke.

"Olivia, calm down. Kieran was wrong, but at least give him a chance to explain," Henry said.

Olivia scoffed again. It seemed that people tended to befriend those similar to themselves. Henry probably wasn't a good person either.

"Explain what? He got engaged and kept it from Gwyneth for a year. What is that? That's scumbag behavior. Yes, Gwyneth is carefree and might not even understand her feelings for Kieran, whether they're friendly or romantic. But even if she doesn't understand, she's still a person. What gives Kieran the right to trample on her life? What a scumbag!"

Olivia hung up, shaking with anger. When Henry called again, she put her phone on silent. After requesting leave, she started looking up real estate agencies. She needed to stay here for three months for special training, which was serious business and couldn't be taken lightly.

Since this was where Gwyneth worked, she would have to return after her vacation. So Olivia and Gwyneth couldn't stay in the staff quarters. After the fallout with Kieran, staying there was definitely not an option.

Gwyneth woke up at five, sticking to her routine even at home. Olivia pulled her to wash up, and after breakfast, they started house hunting.

They went straight to the nearest upscale neighborhood. Olivia liked a 2,000-square-foot duplex that was fully furnished and ready to move in.
