Chapter 91 Scared to Go on Stage

Chapter 91 Scared to Go on Stage

Henry really didn't want to put more pressure on Olivia if he could help it, but the stuff from eight years ago still had a lot of loose ends. Some cops' bodies were still missing, and the most important piece of evidence—a USB drive—was nowhere to be found.

When Olivia first started getting her memory back, she was scared out of her mind. But she wasn't that fifteen-year-old kid anymore; she was a grown-up and a cop. It took her three months to go from being scared to accepting it.

Henry hadn't seen that coming, and probably neither did Autumn and the others. Instead of losing it after her memory came back, Olivia got even tougher.

"Don't push yourself; we'll take it slow," Henry said, pulling Olivia into a hug.

Two lonely souls finding comfort in each other, like animals huddling for warmth.

The next day was packed with media interviews at the conference. Parker brought Olivia along, and her youth and beauty drew a lot of attention. Candid photos of her spread quickly, and she was even dubbed the most beautiful police officer.

"Mr. Taylor, is this your assistant?" someone asked Parker, curious about Olivia.

"This is my student, Olivia! She actually led the paper presented at the forum. I just presented her work," Parker explained.

The crowd, mostly top-notch cops from around the world, was surprised and gathered around Olivia.

Metamale crimes had become a hot topic globally. Some countries even wanted to make laws about this gene stuff but didn't have enough evidence.

On the last day of the conference, the organizers asked Parker if Olivia could give the closing speech. Seeing it as a great chance, Parker went to find Olivia.

"I have to give the closing speech, but I'm not ready!" Olivia exclaimed. She had come to learn and had gotten a lot out of the conference. It was her first time at such an event, and she didn't feel up to it.

"I have a draft. You can tweak it and add your own thoughts. I told you before I wanted to include your name, but you refused. Now that you're at the police academy, you need to publish papers," Parker said, looking a bit helpless, which made Henry chuckle.

"Scared to go on stage?" Henry teased, and Olivia rolled her eyes at him.

"Not scared, just not a fan of public speaking," Olivia replied.

Parker smiled at Henry. "Henry is a special guest and will also be speaking. You two can discuss and maybe help each other."

Olivia felt a bit stuck. Helping each other? More like dragging each other down.

She smiled and looked up at Henry, her face lighting up. Henry felt his heart skip a beat. Olivia was too thin, and even though Henry watched her eat during the conference, she still didn't gain any weight. It was hard to get her to gain weight.

Since they both had to speak, Olivia and Henry worked on their drafts together. Henry's topic caught Olivia's interest.

"Your speech is definitely going to make waves, but it's too sensitive. It could be risky to put it out there," Olivia said. Henry just smiled.

"Why do you think I'm here?" Henry shot back, making Olivia's face change.

"You're doing this on purpose. You're nuts, Henry!" Olivia exclaimed.

Olivia was really worked up. Henry's speech draft was intense and would definitely cause a stir if he presented it.

They argued all night, with Henry standing his ground, frustrating Olivia so much that she ended up kicking him out.

"Two hours until dawn. Let's just cool off. After the conference, I'm heading back to Silverlight City. Joining the Special Operations Unit isn't a walk in the park," With that, Henry stepped outside and decided to take a walk around the hotel.

He called Kieran, who answered groggily.

"Henry, are you out of your mind? Calling at four in the morning? Some of us need sleep!" Kieran, who had just finished a mission at two, grumbled.

"Why didn't you tell me Olivia is going to Special Operations Unit training?" Henry demanded.

Kieran paused, trying to remember who Olivia was.

"What does Ms. Smith have to do with you? Are you so used to being her captain that you want to control her life?"

Henry lit a cigarette and sneered, "Don't play dumb. Olivia is my woman, and we're getting married. You better take good care of her. If she suffers even a bit, I'll kill you!"

Kieran was exasperated. Henry was acting like a thug, far from his usual police persona, but this side of him only showed in front of close friends.

"Come on, Henry, are you trying to mess around with Olivia?"

"Aren't you the same with Gwyneth? Stop pretending to be all proper in front of me! Olivia can go for training but no missions, got it?"

Kieran wanted to throw his phone. "Henry, Ms. Smith is going as an instructor. Who would take her on missions?"

Henry leaned against the wall, laughed, stubbed out his cigarette, and stood up straight, ready to say the most crucial thing to Kieran.

"The case from eight years ago has new developments. They're looking for Olivia. You need to ensure her safety. If anything happens to her in the Special Operations Unit, your career as a cop will be for nothing!"

Kieran instantly sobered up, all traces of sleepiness gone.

"Is it the same group?"

"Yes!" Henry's certainty meant he wasn't joking.

"Drew has resurfaced. This is serious. The port has been unstable recently, which might be related. I'll send you the information to review."

The two men stayed up, studying the case and suspects, while Olivia got two hours of sleep and woke up at six.

She went downstairs for breakfast and saw Henry at the door.

"You didn't sleep?" Seeing the dark circles under Henry's eyes, Olivia knew he had stayed up all night.

"Someone kicked out doesn't get to sleep."

Olivia sighed and walked to the elevator, with Henry following. When the elevator opened, the person inside saw Henry and Olivia and exclaimed.

"Henry, it's really you! What a coincidence to meet you here!"

Olivia looked up and saw a foreign woman, who surprisingly spoke their language fluently.

"Do you know her?" Olivia asked Henry, but noticed he wasn't looking at the woman at all.
