Chap.121*Ex BFF *
Garret: I heard you are happily married with a beautiful baby son, I wanted to congratulate you sooner but I didn't know how to.
Seeing his message was such stress as well as a hint of relief like I've met an old friend again, but the way our friendship ended in high school made us both part ways with bitter feelings for each other.
I still respond to his text to maybe end things on a good note this time.
Me: Thank you.
I didn't feel like he would get back to me again, but that was strange when he responded almost like in a minute.
Garret: I feel like you are still angry at me. I apologize for the reaction I gave when I found out that you had chosen Desmond to be your prom date. We were friends for so long and then you chose him, maybe jealously got the best out of me.
It was weird how I could still recall that day when things went down between us. We were all friends for so long but things turned extremely ugly when I picked Desmond.
It did feel like we were young and mistakes were made, so I thought why not just forget about what happened since he had also grown out of that phase.
Me: Actually, it's fine.
Garret: Then why do you not sound like the girl you used to be? I heard your husband is super rich now, then why aren't you happy.
It was funny how he thought that'd be enough to make me happy. I knew he always felt that I didn't pick him because he wasn't as rich as Desmond and now that Desmond had even expanded his business more, Garret thought I would be happier.
Me: Money can't buy happiness.
Garret: Oh! So he is not keeping you happy.
Me: I'm happy with him, it's not him. It's just the responsibilities and everything is making me feel so old now.
Garret: You and old? Wow, that is a piece of news now.
Garret: I can still imagine you in those denim shorts and tiny tank top, stealing attention.
I laughed reading his message, which used to be my main attire.
Garret: I badly wanna meet you guys, I heard that you are all together, but I understand that I'm not welcomed in the group anymore.
He had already published his apology to me, so I felt like there was no need to punish him still.
Me: Nobody said you are not invited, you are forgiven.
Garret: Hm, then how about I take you out for lunch or something.
I was hesitant to say yes at first and then I recalled how much stress Desmond had given me after the sad demise of his sister so, in spite, I said yes.
Me: Sure, lemme know whenever.
I was happy to find my good friend back. I was much more comfortable with Garret than anybody else so that was going to change my mood for to better for sure.
In the next two days, we had caught up a lot, it felt like old times. And then we finally decided to meet up.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Ava asked when she saw me calling for a cab.
"No! I'll be fine. Roy's entire schedule will mess up if I took him along." I haven't told any of them about talking to Garret, I knew they will cause a useless ruckus for no reason.
"I'll be back in a few hours," I stated before rushing out of the mansion. The cab had taken so much time because our mansion was located on such a deserted piece of land.
I didn't use my own car in fear of my driver accidentally exposing me to Desmond.
I saw Garret standing from afar and Damn! It didn't look like he had changed a bit. He was still in his causal wear with a dirty smirk on his lips.
"Hey!" he came forward to hand me a bouquet of fresh roses and even helped me get a seat.
"So, I wanna start with a truth, I called you here because I needed something from you." His mood changed when he sat down from across the table, watching me with a straight line formed of his lips.
"What? What do you mean, Garret? What do you want from me?" a sudden feeling of regret hit me for coming here to meet him.
"A potion that could make me glow just like you are glowing." as he finished with his cheesy pickup line, I started laughing loudly.
He was cute with all his jokes and cheesy lines. I must admit, after spending some time with him I began to feel like I was back in high school again.
His company made me feel better, I was refreshed and feeling content with myself. I came back home late when Desmond and Ava were waiting for me on the dinner table under the patio umbrella.
"Hey," I saw them watching me in silence, and then Ava pulled a smile onto her lips to ease me up.
"What's going on? Why do you guys look so intense?" I tried to act normal and pretend like I was hungry so that I could escape the curious eyes of Desmond.
"Come, feast with us." Ava was such a good friend because she tried to save me from being questioned.
"Yeah! Come sit with me." Desmond took a deep breath and then a fake smile plastered across his lips.
I sat down with them and even stuffed my face when I was already full, but the fear of Desmond questioning me scared me into filling my stomach.
I thought maybe that was it and now Desmond wouldn't bring it up again but the moment we got inside the bedroom and I was finished readying for the bed, Desmond demanded for my attention.
"Where were you today? Roy was alone and crying the entire day for you." He slowly took off his shirt and laid in the bed with only his boxers on, I could see him behind me in the mirror.
I was applying lotion to my arms while secretly watching his face as well, "I had made a new friend in the salon so we were having lunch today. Besides, Ava was here to take care of Roy." I responded a bit annoyingly. I was not cheating on Desmond or even thinking of doing that so I don't know why he would have a problem with me hanging out with Garret.
"Ayleen, Ava is not his mother. You know he craves your attention and I'm not saying that you don't do your outings, just let me know and I will take a day off whenever you have planned something with your friends." Desmond pulled his arms behind his head and rested on them.
"Okay, I'll let you know the next time I plan on going out," I replied to him and continued applying the lotion.
"I'm happy that you are happy tonight." Desmond's almost broken voice made me turn to him and stare at him.
"Really?" I asked and he nodded.
"Come here," he unfolded his arm from under his head and stretched it out for me. I crawled in the bed and laid on his arm, slowly turning my face towards him and rubbing our lips together.
His touch was the best touch ever, I knew no one could ever satisfy me as he does.
Should I let him vent his grief out to me? But then what if he makes it his habit? He nerd to let go of his sister and her memories.
We fell asleep after making out a little. Then in the middle of the night, my cellphone started beeping under my pillow.
"Who is blowing up my phone at this time?" I tried opening my eyes but it seemed like a chore since I was half asleep.
Garret: Ugh! I can't sleep.
Garret: I can't stop thinking about you.
Garret: joking! I'm actually missing the tacos we ate today.
Garret: Are you up? You should be, your 3 years old will be keeping you up.
Garret: Do you mind if I make a ruckus in your inbox?
I read the messages and couldn't help but smile at how crazy and full of life he was.
As he kept blowing up my inbox with his nonsensical messages, I found myself typing in hurry.
Me: Gosh! I have missed you so much.
I bit my lower lip when I realized what I've done. I feared to open his message now, what if he thought I was a bad wife for messaging my ex-best friend such type of text? And then I gathered all the strength I could grab and read his message.
Garret: please, come on FaceTime, I wanna see you.
I instantly slammed my phone on my soft pillow and hugged myself tightly, what was I doing?
But it felt so good.
It felt like I was back in high school and doing something that my parents wouldn't like so, I was being sneaky about it.
I got out of bed and sneakily left my room to walk downstairs. My eyes landed on Roy's room, the one with the kitchen. Since the lights were turned off, I knew Ava would be asleep too. She had a huge bed in the room to stay with Roy as he had some sleeping habits that needed assistance.
I left for the patio and sat down to a video call Garret.
"Hey!" as he picked up the call, my eyes jumped out when I realized that he was shirtless.
