The Unknown Gift

The Unknown Gift
Two weeks later

“Has she talked to you?”

Noah shook his head. “No. I’ve been iced out; so have my brothers. All she does is work and when we try to talk, she leaves or changes the topic.”

Samantha sighed. “She’s going to starve this way. Lilith won’t talk to me either and I’m at a loss of what to do.”

“Leave it to me.” Calchas said, joining them. “It’s about time we had a chat, anyway.”

“You do know that you’re her least favorite person, right?” Noah said.

“Which makes me the best candidate.”

“Who is it” Lilith asked; the constant knock sent a throbbing through her temples. Opening the door, she rolled her’ eyes. “I’m fine,” she said. “Life is fine, days are fine, I just need to catch up on work.”

“What makes you think I’m here for another purpose?” Calchas asked as he pushed his way through. “I value work and other things as well.”

Lilith whipped around, facing him. “Why the fuck are you here?”

“Easy Queen,” Calchas said, raising his hands. “I’m here because you refuse to talk to anyone else.”

Lilith scoffed, turning around. “So they sent you? They would have been better leaving me alone.”

Calchas balled his fist but then slowly released it. “You know, at least your loves, you get to see them,” he said. “Hold them, think about your lives together. You get a chance with them. But me? I lost one of my loves and what’s worse? I see her face every day when I look at Sam. I hate that a part of me resents Sam for something that wasn’t her fault, but I get up every day and love her with everything in me because I know Chasity would want that for us. Yet here you are squandering several gifts given to you.” Lilith faced him. “I can’t dislike you, you’re doing a good enough job yourself."

“Fuck you!”

He laughed. “You’re not my type, remember? You’re mad at me for speaking truth?” Calchas straightened his back. “Your sister killed herself…after killing your older sister. How does that feel?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

“It does.”

“She wasn’t good.”

“Doesn’t take away you loving her.”

“No!” Lilith shouted as she flung a vase against the wall. “She hurt people. She wasn’t good and I can’t be sorry. I can’t mourn her. She hated me. I can’t mourn her.”

Calchas grabbed her face. “But you do. You mourn her because you’ve seen something good in her. You still do.” He pulled her face close to his. “You can’t shut the world out because it hurts too much. I’ve learned. There are four men outside trying to figure out how to love you. You have people who are dying for the chance to help. Look. Please. I need you to look.”

Lilith looked deep into his eyes and she started to cry. “This is the only kindness I can give you,” she said. Calchas smiled softly. “That wasn’t my sister.”

“No.” He hugged her deeply, his eyes tearing. “It wasn’t.” He banged on the wall. “She knows! I can do this for you Chasity because she knows!” Removing his shirt, he pointed to a tattoo she hadn’t seen. “I can now tell you everything.”

“I’m confused,” Jayden said, scratching his head. “I thought we pretty much wrapped up this Gift of Gaia thing.”

Calchas shook his head. “So yes, and no. Lilith and your all’s future is a bit more detailed than that.

“How detailed are we talking?” Mason asked.

“Well…Lilith isn’t just the succubus queen; she is slated to have unlimited power.”

“What in the future baby mama?” Liam said, grabbing his chest. “She already has us at her beck and call. This…well, this I need to rethink.”

“Are you planning on leaving me?” Lilith asked to which Liam blushed.

“Not on your life. I was having a moment. Sorry.”

“Please excuse my idiot of a brother. Continue,” Noah said to which Calchas nodded.

“I wasn’t allowed to reveal everything without the proper prompt.” He faced Lilith. “I’m sorry, but if I broke the rules, they would have taken me and I would have been no use to you and Sam. Please forgive me for allowing you to grieve the way you did.”

“You’re forgiven. I truly understand.”

Calchas nodded. Removing his shirt, he rolled his eyes at the scoffs from the guys. “Not my fault you all don’t have it together.” He looked at Jayden up and down. “And you call yourself a physical trainer. Anyway, the Corrupt is what happened.”

“What is the Corrupt?” Noah asked

“It’s what happened to your kingdom. It doesn’t have a face; it jumps from person to person. He turned to Lilith. “You were destined with the gifts to stop it but that meant corruption around you. Your sisters were trained to protect you no matter what, and that’s what they did. Morrigan killed Astaroth knowing she was corrupted and that was their promise, then after she was corrupted herself, in a lucid moment, killed herself.”

Calchas pointed to his tattoos

The gift of love

The gift of respect

The gift of admiration

The gift of trust

The gift of friendship

“Wrap it up,” he repeated.

“You weren’t talking about Sam.”

Calchas shook his head. “You and your four loves are destined to rule the universe. All realms. It doesn’t matter whether human or supernatural; they belong to you and how you decide to rule them. Sam was the catalyst to awaken Morrigan. To unlock your powers, she needed to give what she promised as well as Astaroth. The one thing the corrupt tried to stop.” He turned around, revealing another tattoo. “I’ve seen you die in every scenario but this. Your sisters gave you the gift of sacrifice."
