Chapter 34- A special name

“Mateo is a strong name. I like it. And it has a nice ring to it.” Damian nodded vigorously. “What about something a bit more adventurous, like ‘Axel’? It has a certain edge to it.”

“Axel is cool! But I’m not sure if I want my son to sound like he’s in a rock band.” Julián chuckled. “We need to strike a balance.”

“Fair point. How about we keep brainstorming? Maybe we’ll hit the jackpot,” Damian suggested, grinning.

“Deal. Let’s just hope Alejandro has some good ideas too, or else we might end up with something ridiculous.” Julián laughed, feeling lighter as they continued chatting.

The door opened, and Alejandro walked in, a bright smile on his face. “Hey! I heard my name. What are you two scheming about?”

“Baby names!” Julián exclaimed, his enthusiasm bubbling over. “We’ve already got a couple of ideas, but we could use your input.”

“Count me in! I’m all for creative brainstorming.” Alejandro plopped down in the chair beside Julián, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “What’s on the table?”

As the three of them began tossing ideas back and forth, Julián felt a deep sense of gratitude for the support system he had. No matter what challenges lay ahead, he knew they would face them together, as a family.

“Alright, so we’ve got Mateo and Axel,” Damian said, leaning back in his chair to think. “What about something like ‘Luca’? It’s got that modern vibe but still feels classic.”

“Luca is nice! It’s got a warmth to it,” Julián replied, nodding in appreciation. “But I wonder if it’s too common. I want something unique, you know?”

Alejandro chimed in, “How about ‘Cruz’? It’s short, strong, and has a nice meaning—‘cross’ in Spanish. Plus, it’s not overly popular.”

“I like that!” Julián said, tapping his fingers on the table as he considered it. “Cruz has a nice ring to it. It feels adventurous but grounded at the same time.”

“Exactly! It’s got character,” Damian added. “What about ‘Santiago’? It’s bold, has a rich history, and connects to family roots.”

Julián smiled at the suggestion. “Santiago is beautiful, but it’s a bit long for a little guy. What about a nickname? ‘Santi’ could work.”

“Now we’re cooking!” Alejandro said, grinning. “Santi is adorable. And you can still call him Santiago when he’s older if he wants something more formal.”

“Okay, so we’ve got a solid list forming,” Julián said, feeling more confident. “We’ll need to write these down before we forget. I can already see the potential arguments over names when he gets older!”

“Ha! Just wait until he decides to rebel and wants to be called something completely different,” Damian joked, earning a laugh from the group.

Julián leaned back, reveling in the camaraderie. “Whatever he ends up being called, I just hope he knows he’s loved. That’s what’s important.”

“Absolutely. As long as he has you two as parents, he’ll be just fine,” Alejandro said, giving Julián a reassuring smile.

The three friends continued to brainstorm, sharing laughter and ideas, each name representing a future filled with hope, adventure, and the promise of unforgettable memories to come.

As the evening wore on, the conversation flowed seamlessly, each name sparking new ideas and stories from their own childhoods. Julián felt a warmth in his chest, grateful for the lightness and joy that enveloped them.

“Okay, let’s take a quick break,” Damian suggested, reaching for the snacks on the table. “How about we fuel up before we dive back into this? We need our brains sharp for the ultimate name showdown!”

“Good idea! A little snack never hurt anyone,” Julián agreed, grateful for the distraction. They grabbed chips and salsa, the crunching sounds filling the space between their laughter.

As they munched on snacks, Julián reflected on the names they had discussed. Each one felt like a piece of a puzzle, a way to shape the identity of a little person he hadn’t even met yet. “What if we also considered names that honor family members? Like ‘Rafael’ for my grandfather?” he suggested.

“Rafael is a strong name!” Alejandro said, nodding enthusiastically. “And it carries a beautiful meaning—‘God has healed’ in Hebrew. Plus, it has a nice rhythm to it!”

“True! It's got a classic feel and respects family heritage,” Damian added. “What about ‘Mateo Rafael’? It combines the modern vibe of Mateo with the tradition of Rafael.”

Julián’s face lit up at the suggestion. “I love that! It feels like a bridge between the past and the future. It’s meaningful and has a nice flow.”

“See? We’re onto something!” Alejandro exclaimed, his enthusiasm infectious. “And if we keep going, we might just discover the perfect name.”

As they resumed brainstorming, Julián felt the weight of impending fatherhood lifting. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, he felt empowered, buoyed by the support of his friends. With every name they tossed around, he envisioned the little boy who would one day carry it, his laughter filling their lives with joy.

“Okay, let’s take stock. We have Mateo, Axel, Cruz, Santi, and Rafael,” Julián said, counting off on his fingers. “This is turning into quite the list!”

“Don’t forget to add a wildcard,” Damian suggested, a playful glint in his eyes. “What about ‘Phoenix’? It’s unique, and it symbolizes rebirth and resilience.”

“Phoenix is definitely bold!” Julián chuckled. “I’m not sure if I’m ready for my son to be named after a mythical creature, though.”

“Hey, it could work! Imagine him growing up with that name—he’d have to live up to it!” Alejandro laughed, grinning at the thought.

“True! But let’s keep it realistic,” Julián said, shaking his head playfully. “We want him to thrive, not be overwhelmed by expectations!”

As the night progressed, the three friends continued to share ideas, stories, and laughter, their bond strengthening with each passing moment. With every name they considered, Julián felt more connected to the little boy he was about to welcome into the world. Regardless of what name they finally chose, he knew that their love and support would be the foundation of his son’s journey.

“Alright, let’s take a vote on our favorites so far,” Damian suggested, leaning forward eagerly. “What do we think about Mateo Rafael? It’s got everything we’ve talked about!”

Julián nodded, feeling a rush of excitement. “I’m all in for that! It feels right.”

“I love it too,” Alejandro agreed, his eyes sparkling. “It’s a name that tells a story—one of love and family.”

As they celebrated their decision, Julián felt a sense of peace wash over him. With friends like Damian and Alejandro by his side, he knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, as a family. The name was just the beginning of a beautiful journey, and he couldn’t wait to embrace every moment of it.
