Chapter Fifty-Eight
Chapter Fifty-Eight
The sun was shining bright as Emma's call came through, a burst of excitement in Lisa's day. Emma had been wanting to meet Rachel, and now she'd decided it was time - a girls' outing at the mall was just what she needed to break up the monotony of party prep. She wanted Lisa and Rachel to meet her at the mall, just the three of them, for some shopping, some laughs, and some girl talk.
Lisa's eyes lit up as she told Rachel about the call, and now they were cruising through the busy streets, headed to the mall. Rachel was driving, a huge grin on her face as she navigated the traffic. "I'm so hyped to meet finally Emma!" she said, glancing at Lisa.
Lisa smiled back, feeling a mix of excitement and relief. It was going to be good to get out, to have some fun with her friends.
As they drove to the mall, Rachel was behind the wheel, grooving to the beat of the music. She couldn’t contain her excitement. She was finally going to meet Emma, the girl who had been the spark that kept Lisa's energy up, and she couldn't wait to see them together.
Lisa, sitting beside her, was lost in thought, a small smile playing on her lips as she thought about Emma's party, just a few days away. She was nervous about seeing Jamie again.
The city streets whizzed by outside, a blur of vibrant colors and bustling life. Rachel chatted on, her voice bubbling with excitement, as she tries to lift Lisa’s spirits before they arrive at the mall.
Rachel goes "Omg, I just remembered the funniest thing! So, I was at the salon yesterday getting my nails done, and this lady next to me was like, 'I want my nails to look like a unicorn's butt.' Like, what?"
Lisa burst out laughing. "What did the nail tech say?"
"Girl, she was like, 'Okay... so you want sparkles and pastel colors?' And the lady was like, 'Yessss, and make it pop!' I'm over there dying trying not to laugh."
"That's insane! I had a weird food moment the other day. I tried to eat a plantain thinking it was a banana."
"Wait, what? How did that go?" Rachel asked.
"It was like, crunchy and starchy... and I was like, 'What am I eating?' My face was all…" Lisa said, making a funny face.
Rachel cracked up. "That's too funny!
The girls laughed and chatted, the city streets flying by as they cruised to the mall, ready for their fun day out with Emma.
As they pulled into the mall parking lot, the laughter still lingering in the air, Lisa felt a sense of freedom wash over her. For a moment, she was just a girl, without the weight of Marcus's expectations or the stress of Emma's party looming over her. She was just Lisa, hanging out with her best friend, enjoying the simple pleasure of girl talk.
The sun shone brightly through the windshield, casting a warm glow over the scene. Rachel turned off the engine, and they sat for a moment, the music still playing softly in the background. Lisa smiled, feeling a sense of contentment settle in. This was what she needed – a break from the drama, a chance to just be herself.
With a happy sigh, Lisa opened her door and stepped out into the bustling parking lot, Rachel following close behind.
As they approached the mall, Rachel's words became a gentle hum in the background, a soothing sound that accompanied Lisa's thoughts. She was grateful for her friend's enthusiasm, knowing it was a welcome distraction from the turmoil brewing inside her.
They walked into the mall and Rachel's eyes landed on Emma, and she couldn't help but feel a little starstruck. Emma was standing outside a boutique, looking like a radiant goddess, pregnancy glow and all. Her hair was styled in loose, effortless waves, and her makeup was natural and flawless. She was wearing a flowy, bohemian dress that skimmed her baby bump, and her feet were clad in a pair of chic sandals.
Despite her advanced pregnancy, Emma looked stunning, like a fertility goddess come to life. Her skin was glowing, and her smile was bright and warm as she spotted Lisa and Rachel approaching.
Rachel felt a little awestruck, taking in Emma's ethereal beauty. She was so caught up in admiring Emma that she almost forgot to smile, but then Emma caught her eye, and her face lit up with a beaming grin.
"Hey, girls!" Emma exclaimed, opening her arms wide for a group hug. Lisa and Rachel obliged, embracing her warmly.
As they pulled back, Rachel couldn't help but let out a little squeal. "Em, you look so gorgeous! Pregnancy is treating you amazingly!"
Emma laughed, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "Thanks, Rach! I'm feeling pretty great, actually."
Lisa nodded in agreement, eyeing Emma's baby bump. "Seriously, Em, you're glowing. I don't know how you do it."
Emma smiled, her hands cringling protectively over her stomach. "I think it's just the baby's way of saying hello," she said, laughing.
They all stood there for a moment, basking in the warmth of their reunion, before Emma suggested they get started on their shopping spree. "I've got a list of stores to hit, and I'm not leaving until I've found the perfect outfit for my party," she declared.
Rachel grinned, already knowing they were in for a fantastic day.
