Chapter 63 Chapter 63: The Man Who Paid Her Mother Bills
“Hi, Miss Hudson.”
When Estelle was lost in thought, a nurse greeted her.
Estelle stopped her steps and recognized the familiar nurse. Then she smiled and said hello to the nurse.
The nurse then said with an assuring smile, “Miss Hudson, don’t worry. Your mother has recovered well recently.”
“Thank you for taking good care of her,” Estelle said gratefully.
“Not at all. It is a pleasure,” The nurse quickly responded. Then she approached Estelle as she lowered her voice and said, “By the way, a few days ago, someone came to inquire about your condition. I hid your condition and just said you had an operation for appendicitis.”
Estelle’s heart jolted, anxiously asking, “Is it a man or a woman?”
“It was a man, and he was well-dressed. He said he was your distant relative and wanted to know about your condition. Since you told me to hide your condition from others, I didn’t tell him the truth. But I don’t know if he will check your medical records. The medical records can’t lie.”
Speaking of the medical records, Estelle suddenly thought of something and asked, “Nurse, under what circumstances can one’s medical records not be found out?”
“Generally speaking, all medical records will be saved permanently if the computers that saved them break down or are attacked by a computer virus. I remembered a few years ago, once the computers broke down, all the medical records were lost. And the hard disks were formatted. Later, the hospital hired a professional computer engineer to repair and update the computer systems. Since then, all medical records would be backed up in case they are lost.”
Estelle asked, “How many years ago did that happen?”
“Maybe seven years ago. I can’t remember it clearly. What’s wrong, Miss Hudson?” The nurse cautiously asked.
“Nothing,” Estelle shook her head and said. “By the way, how much medical fees do I need to pay this time?”
The nurse was stunned and said, “Two hundred thousand dollars has been paid in advance as your mother’s medical fees. It’s enough before she is discharged from the hospital. You don’t need to pay extra fees.”
“Her medical fees were paid in advance?” Estelle asked in surprise.
The nurse nodded and answered, “Yes, a few days ago, a man came and paid your mother’s medical fees in advance. I thought he was your family... You don’t know about that?”
Estelle was confused.
‘Who paid the fees for Mom? It can’t be Uncle York. He is cold-blooded and has no conscience. But I don’t have any other family. Then who could it be?’
Suddenly, Mr. Mysterious’ figure flashed through her mind.
‘Could it be Mr. Mysterious? He came to the hospital before?’
“Miss, did he pay by bank card?”
The nurse nodded, “Yes, I remember that he paid by card.”
“Could you show me the payment record?” Estelle grabbed her hand and asked excitedly. “Or may I have a look at the stub with his signature?”
If Mr. Mysterious came to the hospital and paid the fees in person, then he must have signed his name on the stub printed out by the POS machine.
‘Who on earth is he?’
Estelle, who was curious about Mr. Mysterious, couldn’t help becoming excited when thinking that she could know who he was.
“Sorry, Miss Hudson. I’m afraid I can’t help you. The financial department is in charge of it, and I have no permission to check the record. Besides, his personal information is personal privacy. We have no right to show it to others,” The nurse informed her.
Her words extinguished Estelle’s hope.
Estelle gradually calmed down and couldn’t help feeling disappointed. Then she comforted herself in silence, ‘Everything happens for the best. Maybe it’s not the right time to know about Mr. Mysterious’ identity.’
Thinking of her behaviour just now, she smiled awkwardly and said, “I’m sorry, Miss. I just want to know who helped me so that I can thank him in the future.”
The nurse comforted her, “Maybe that man just wants to help you secretly. I have an impression of him. He looks very young and seems to be under thirty years old. He was tall and in good shape. And when he came here, he wore a mask and a cap. Miss Hudson, you may think about whether you have a relative looking like him.”
“Okay. Thank you,” Estelle nodded.
Suddenly, her phone rang, and she received a message from Mr. Mysterious.
‘Estelle, I have told you that when the time is right, I will let you know who I am.’
Seeing the message, Estelle was not surprised because Mr. Mysterious could always know what she was doing.
‘I’m sorry, Sir. I won’t do that again.’ She replied to him.
‘Have you thought about what I proposed yesterday?’
Biting her lower lip, Estelle recalled last night’s conversation, Mr. Mysterious covered her eyes and whispered in her ear that he was chasing her. His gentleness and hot breath made her blush to her ears.
‘You don’t have to reply to me now. Think it over before telling me your decision.’
Before she replied to the message, Mr. Mysterious texted her again as if he could see the hesitation and embarrassed look on her face.
Estelle typed many words, trying to explain that it was not appropriate for her to start a new relationship in her current situation. But when she was about to send the message, she hesitated again.
She paused for a moment and finally deleted the words.
Then she replied to the message briefly, ‘Okay.’
In the office, Cristofer was absent-minded all day long.
These days, the scene of Estelle holding Yvonne in her arms smilingly always came to his mind, making him unable to focus on his work at all.
While he was in a daze, Vincent knocked on the door and came in.
“Mr. Hans, the police station just called and asked you to go there.”
“Police station?” Cristofer frowned and asked.
“Yes, they said that they have found new clues about the case related to Mrs. Moorsum, and the murderer may not be Miss Hudson but someone else,” Vincent said.
Half an hour later, Cristofer arrived at the police station.
“Mr. Hans, these are the surveillance videos from all the monitoring systems near your villa. We’ve checked them carefully and found that no other car ever showed up near the villa on that day.”
Staring at the surveillance video on the screen, Cristofer said, “My villa is in the suburbs, and few people live in that district.”
He thought, ‘Just because of this, it is easy to find the person who killed Mrs. Moorsum. Only Estelle was at home with Mrs. Moorsum that day. The murderer must be her.’
