Chapter 502 Chapter 502: We Don’t Want A New Nanny
“Didn’t Grandpa Luke say that Mom would be on a business trip for a long time? We just need to wait for her to come home. When Mom comes back, she’ll bring us gifts,” Yohan comforted her.
Christina, who had always been clingy to Estelle, was a little disappointed when hearing Yohan's words. “Mom has gone abroad. It will definitely be a long time before she comes back.” Then she looked at Cristofer and continued, “Dad, you also miss Mom very much, right? Can you call Mom, please? We haven’t seen her for a long time. We want to talk with her.”
Hearing this, Luke froze in astonishment, and he quickly looked at Cristofer. Sitting up straight, Cristofer turned his face away to avoid the expectant gazes from the three children. After a while, he said, “Your Mom is very busy abroad. We’d better not disturb her.”
Hearing this, Yvonne and Christina immediately became depressed, and they looked as if they were about to cry. Helplessly, Cristofer caressed their heads one by one to comfort them. “I will ask Grandpa Luke to take you to the amusement park tomorrow, okay? You can have a ride on the Ferris wheel and merry-go-round,” he said, trying to divert their attention by talking about their favorite rides in the amusement park.
However, as he talked, he couldn’t help thinking about the happy time that he had spent with Estelle in the amusement park before. Then he fell into self-hatred and thought to himself, ‘Estelle trampled on my pride again and again. Why do I still always think about her? When I was in prison, I thought about her all the time. Now that I'm back home, I still think about her from time to time. It’s so annoying!’
Fortunately, both Christina and Yvonne were sensible and were pacified soon. The three children then invited Cristofer to come into the playroom and build a castle with the building blocks with him.
Looking at the children sitting on the carpet and having fun, Cristofer gradually calmed down, and his serious expression softened. And he handed the building blocks to them from time to time.
After playing with the children for a while, he thought that the atmosphere was good and it was the right time to talk with them about hiring nannies, so he said gently, “Grandpa Luke is old and can’t play with you all the time. How about I hire a new nanny for you and let her play with you?”
He had made up his mind that he would never see Estelle or let her see the children again. In his mind, the children were still young. And as long as the new nannies were good to them, they would forget Estelle sooner or later.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he finished his words, the joyful atmosphere in the playroom suddenly disappeared. The three children said in one voice, “We don’t want a new nanny!”
Cristofer had expected that they wouldn’t accept it, so he coaxed them, “Isn’t it good to have more people to play with you? With the help of the new nannies, Grandpa Luke won’t have to be so tired every day. And they will take you wherever you want to have fun.”
Puffing out her cheeks, Christina felt weepy. She tried to hold back her tears but failed. “I don’t want new nannies. I want Mom! Dad, are you going to find a stepmother for us?”
Cristofer's gentle expression froze when he heard Christina’s words. He shook his head and gently replied, “No, you will always have one mother in your life.”
In his heart, he cherished the memories of a special relationship in his life. He had decided not to start a new one.
Sitting beside Christina, Yohan comforted her, and her loud cries gradually turned into quiet sobs. Christina, still teary-eyed, asked Cristofer in a shaky voice, “Then why do you want to hire a new nanny for us? Did you abandon Mom?”
Cristofer felt his face go pale and helpless. He thought, ‘It’s not your Mom who was abandoned, but me. I did my best, but she won’t forgive me.’
Seeing Cristofer's sadness, Yohan quickly signaled to Christina not to cry. Then he told Cristofer, “Dad, Christina didn’t mean that. Don’t be sad. We don’t need nannies. I’ll help Grandpa Luke take care of my sisters.”
Yvonne, always considerate and sensible, wanted to pat Cristofer on the shoulder to comfort him. But she was too short, so she gently patted his arm and said, “Dad, I’ll wait for Mom and be good.”
Christina choked up as she echoed, “I’ll be good and listen to Yohan. Dad, please don’t hire new nannies. We just want Mom!”
Facing his three adorable children, Cristofer couldn’t bear to say anything that would make them sad. He had to reassure them, “But Mom has a lot of work and won’t be back for a while. The new nannies will only stay with us until she returns.”
A few days ago, Estelle had wanted to see him, and Justin had passed on her message. But he refused to see her. Since Cristofer hadn’t mentioned when Estelle would return and continue trying to convince the kids to accept the new nannies, Yohan, being the eldest, began to doubt if Estelle had actually gone abroad for work. He suspected that Luke had made up the story to comfort Yvonne and Christina.
“Dad, if Mom will be back soon, hiring nannies is unnecessary. We’re not babies anymore, and it’s time for us to learn to take care of ourselves,” Yohan said. His words found support from Yvonne and Christina, showing their unity. No matter how much Cristofer tried to persuade them, they stood firm.
Standing behind Cristofer and listening to their conversation, Luke couldn’t resist chiming in gently, “Mr. Hans, we can discuss this. The children are still quite young, and it’s natural for them to want to see their mother.”
Cristofer understood what Luke was implying and simply looked at him without saying anything. Seeing Cristofer's reaction, Luke turned to Yohan and said, “Yohan, I need to talk to your Dad about something. Can you take your sisters to play for a while?”
Yohan whispered back, “Grandpa Luke, are you going to talk to Dad about Mom?”
Luke nodded subtly in response, recalling Estelle’s secret message to him before. He felt a pang of sadness, knowing that there was a deep misunderstanding between Cristofer and Estelle. This time, it wouldn’t be easy for them to reconcile. He sighed inwardly, thinking, ‘Fate has a way of playing tricks on people.’
After Yohan took Yvonne and Christina to the other side of the playroom, Luke talked to Cristofer, “Mr. Hans, I’ve served the Hans family as a butler for decades and watched you grow into a man. I know you’re struggling inside. Why not consider letting Estelle come back?”
