Chapter 26 Chapter 26: Frozen Bank Accounts
In the past, she was the beloved daughter of the Hudson family and could get whatever she wanted. But at present, she was like a beggar living on the alms given by others.
When she was lost in thought, her phone rang.
Seeing that it was a call from the hospital, she answered the phone immediately.
“Miss Hudson, aren’t you in the hospital? Your incision hasn’t healed, and you should stay in the hospital. Come back quickly. Besides, is it convenient for you to pay the medical fees for you and your mother today?”
“I’ll be right back and pay the fees,” Estelle said.
After adjusting her emotion, Estelle took out a bottle of painkillers from her bag and poured two pills into her palms. Then she put them into her mouth and swallowed them directly without drinking water.
About ten minutes later, the painkillers kicked in, and the pain was relieved a little. Then she hurriedly washed up and left for the hospital.
When Estelle arrived at the hospital, she went straight to the Billing Section to pay the medical fees.
“Miss Hudson, here you are.” The nurse returned the card to Estelle after the payment.
Estelle asked anxiously, “Excuse me, may I know when my mother will be transferred to the intensive care unit?”
The nurse said, “I’ll arrange it for you right now. We’re expected to do it in the afternoon at the earliest.”
“Why don’t you do it right now?” Estelle asked.
The nurse was confused and said, “I’m afraid that it’s not convenient to do it now. Your family came to visit your mother, and she is chatting with them.”
My family? Dad has passed away. Who else would come to see Mom? Uncle York? That’s impossible. He doesn’t even bother to take Mom to the hospital when Mom is seriously ill. How is it possible that he comes to the hospital to visit her? Estelle thought suspiciously as she took the elevator upstairs.
Just as she reached the door of the ward, she heard Aurora’s weak voice. “I’m fine. Don’t worry. Estelle will take care of me. I know you two are always very busy with work. Thank you for coming to see me.”
“Not at all. Hope you feel better soon.” A man’s voice came from the ward.
This is... Cristofer’s voice! What is he doing here? Estelle recognized Cristofer’s voice at once and thought in surprise.
With her hand on the doorknob, Estelle was about to push the door open when she happened to see that the person standing next to Cristofer was Gretchen.
Gretchen was still the same as before. She pretended to be gentle and said softly, “Auntie Aurora, although we are not related by blood, I have always taken you as my aunt. As your niece, I certainly should come to visit you. I have brought you many tonics that are good for your health.”
Aurora smiled happily and said, “Thank you, Gretchen. I know you are a good girl. By the way, did you take a taxi here?”
“Auntie, I came here with Cris.”
“Bang!”
Suddenly, the door was pushed open by Estelle with great strength, and Gretchen was interrupted by the loud bang.
“Mom, are you tired? Have a rest. The doctor said you should rest as much as possible,” Estelle said as she walked into the ward and then tucked Aurora in.
Aurora looked affectionately at her, held her hand, and asked, “Where have you been? The nurse has been looking for you for the whole morning.”
Estelle said, “Well, the nurse asked me to pay the medical fees, so I went to the ATM nearby to withdraw money.”
“Do you have enough money? If not, you can pay the bill using my card. You know the password,” Aurora said.
Estelle sat down at the bedside and said softly, “It’s enough. Our family is so rich. How is it possible that I can’t afford the medical fees? If Uncle York brought you to the hospital earlier, you wouldn’t have to be hospitalized.”
Mom’s card? I’m afraid that her account had long been frozen by Uncle York. The money, the property, and almost everything valuable in the Hudson family had been pocketed by Uncle York. Mom is ill, and he didn’t even take her to see a doctor. Maybe he didn’t even leave a penny in Mom’s bank account.
Hearing Estelle’s words, Aurora felt relieved and said, “Don’t blame your uncle. He is not a bad man. He is just too careless and greedy sometimes. He is…”
“Mom,” Estelle interrupted her. “Would you like to eat an apple? Let me peel an apple for you.”
Aurora nodded and said, “Okay. Thank you. By the way, Estelle, why don’t you talk to Cristofer? Did you quarrel with him? Cristofer specially came to see me early in the morning though he has a lot of things to deal with in the company. Be nicer to him.”
Estelle took a look at Cristofer and didn’t say anything.
Since she came into the room, Cristofer had been silent with a darkened face with his mouth compressed into a thin line.
Aurora continued, “I can see that Cristofer treats you very well. You are a mother now. Why are you still so childish and willful? Did you go back to the Hudson’s House that day because you quarreled with Cristofer?”
“No, I didn’t...”
“You didn’t? It’s obvious that you two are in a cold war,” Aurora said helplessly.
“Cristofer, Estelle has been spoiled by his father and me since childhood, so sometimes she is willful. Please don’t be angry with her.”
Cristofer inhaled deeply and said, “I see.”
Aurora then took his hand and put it together with Estelle’s hand. “I know you still can’t let go of the car accident. Cristofer, that car accident was unexpected, and it had nothing to do with Estelle. If you want to vent your resentment, you can scold me. And I will persuade my brother to return the property of the Hans family to you as soon as possible.”
Hearing her words, Cristofer pulled his hand back and said coldly, “No need.”
Aurora felt embarrassed, and the smile on her face froze.
Seeing this, Estelle said at once, “Mom, don’t worry about us. I know how to deal with our relationship.”
“Alas,” Aurora said with a worried look, “We owe the Hans family. You should be more considerate of Cristofer in the future. He is your husband, the person that you will spend the rest of your life with. I can’t be with you for a lifetime. But I believe that with Cristofer, you will live a happy life for the rest of your life.”
