Somehow, Estelle felt restless tonight. Lying on the bed, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
She thought maybe it was because she was too dependent on Mr. Mysterious.
She had been used to sleeping in his arms. Every night when she went to bed, she would nestle in his arms, rest her head on his muscular arm, and smell the pleasant scent of his cologne. With his company, she could always fall asleep quickly and have a good sleep.
Estelle then called Mr. Mysterious several times and finally got through. However, it was Ron who answered the phone.
“Miss Hudson, Mr. Mysterious has something important to deal with abroad and will be away for some time. During the period that he is away, I will drive Yohan to school and pick him up after school every day. And if you need anything, just tell me, and I will help you,” Ron stated.
Estelle asked, “When will he come back?”
“Well... I don’t know. But Mr. Mysterious said he would come back as soon as possible.”
Estelle’s heart jolted when she heard this. She was sensitive to the word “abroad.”
She still remembered that when she got pregnant with Yvonne and wanted to tell Cristofer about this news, the lawyer told her that Cristofer had gone abroad with Gretchen and they would travel for a year.
‘Will Mr. Mysterious also be away for such a long time?’ She couldn’t help wondering.
Sensing the worry in her tone, Ron comforted her, “Miss Hudson, it won’t take long for him to deal with it. After this matter is over and done with, he will be able to leave here with you.”
Hearing this, Estelle felt relieved. “So, he is going to go abroad to do the very important thing he mentioned before, right?”
“Yes.”
“I see. I’ll wait for him.”
After hanging up the phone, Estelle spent a sleepless night.
The next morning, Yohan, who didn’t sleep well last night, seemed very down.
Seeing him like this, Mrs. Moorsum asked worriedly, “Yohan, what’s wrong?”
“Mrs. Moorsum, I miss you so much,” Yohan said in a tired voice. He had always been lively and energetic, but today he was listless, which was unusual.
Mrs. Moorsum held him in her arms and asked with concern, “Why are you unhappy? Is it because you have too much homework to do? Or did you have a nightmare last night?”
Yohan shook his head with a pout and didn’t say anything.
Just at this time, Estelle came out of the bedroom.
“Miss Hudson, come and see Yohan!” Mrs. Moorsum hurriedly said.
Estelle swiftly approached and gently took Yohan from Mrs. Moorsum’s arms.
Before she could say anything, Yohan nestled in her arms and rubbed his head against her chest. “Mom, I miss you so much.”
“I miss you too,” Estelle said softly. “Didn’t you sleep well last night?”
Yohan shook his head and said, “Mom, I had a dream last night.”
“Is it a nightmare?”
“I don’t know. I dreamed that Dad fought with a bad guy but was wounded by the bad guy, and he bled a lot.”
Upon hearing that, Estelle tenderly caressed Yohan's head and reassured him, “It’s just a dream, sweetheart. Your Dad is a superhero, and no one can harm him.”
Yohan pouted and said in low spirits, “Mom, I don’t want Dad to be a superhero anymore.”
“Why?”
Yohan expressed his concerns, saying, “Dad is always very busy every day. He has to fight bad guys and might get hurt. I just want him to stay healthy and safe, and I wish he could spend more time with us.”
Estelle sighed and couldn’t help feeling more guilty.
‘Yohan has suffered too much since he was born. Cristofer and I haven’t been by his side in the past years. He looks optimistic, but actually, he feels very insecure.’
“Mom, am I selfish?” Yohan sniffed and said in a low voice. “As a superhero, Dad needs to save the world. I shouldn’t want to make him my own.”
Gently fondling him, Estelle comforted him in a soft voice, “Your Dad will be very happy if he hears what you said. He is away on a business trip. You can tell him your thoughts when he comes back.”
“Then I’ll tell him how much I love him when he’s back.”
“Okay. Let’s wait for him together,” Estelle suggested.
“Okay,” Yohan replied, nodding. “Mom, did Uncle Ron tell you when Dad will come back?”
Estelle responded, “No, sweetheart. Your Dad might be away for quite some time.”
Hearing this, Yohan felt anxious and concerned, “Is the bad guy he’s going to fight against this time very powerful?”
“He’s not necessarily going to fight a bad guy this time. A superhero can help humans in many different ways, such as...”
“Such as shattering meteorites!” Yohan interjected. “Iron Man can do that too. When aliens wanted to attack Earth with meteorites, Iron Man shattered them!”
Estelle smiled and gently responded, “It takes time for your Dad to go to the alien planet, deal with the meteorites and aliens, and then come back. So let’s wait for him patiently, shall we? Your Dad is incredibly powerful, and he will undoubtedly finish his task and return as soon as possible.”
“Okay!” Yohan finally smiled.
Watching the heartwarming interaction between Estelle and Yohan, Mrs. Moorsum couldn’t help but sigh with emotion and praise, “Miss Hudson, you have a natural way with children. Do you have a younger brother or sister? Did you gain experience in taking care of children through them?”
“No, I’m the only daughter of my parents,” Estelle replied with a smile.
“You’re truly remarkable. Some of my former employers are around the same age as you, but they struggle with handling children. They often find their kids troublesome.”
Estelle proudly held Yohan in her arms and said, “Yohan is an angel. He’s always well-behaved and never gives me any trouble.”
“You’re absolutely right. Yohan is very sensible and well-mannered,” Mrs. Moorsum agreed.
After breakfast, Estelle breastfed Yvonne, and later, Yvonne fell asleep. Mrs. Moorsum kindly brought her back to the children’s room.
Estelle then prepared Yohan's schoolbag and walked downstairs hand in hand with him.
Seeing them approaching, Ron, who had been waiting downstairs, quickly opened the car door and greeted respectfully, “Good morning, Miss Hudson. Good morning, Yohan.”
Yohan waved at him with a bright smile and replied, “Good morning, Uncle Ron. I missed you so much.”
Infected by Yohan's enthusiasm, Ron chuckled and remarked to Estelle, “Yohan is such a lovely child.”
Hearing Ron praise Yohan, Estelle couldn’t help but feel happy.
“Yes, he has the same personality as Mr. Mysterious,” she said, placing Yohan in the child seat and securing the seat belt for him.
“Like father, like son,” Ron agreed.
“That’s right,” Estelle nodded with a smile.
