Chapter 56 “Sunlight And Silver”
The sun had climbed higher, painting the streets of the human realm in gold and warmth. I walked beside Aiden, hands brushing together occasionally, the air between us charged with a quiet electricity. It was a strange contrast to Silverfang—no silver threads of magic weaving through the streets, no looming responsibilities, just life flowing naturally around us.
Aiden glanced at me, his golden eyes soft, almost shy. “You’re… different here,” he murmured, voice low. “More relaxed. More… Elera.”
I smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I like it,” I admitted. “It reminds me that there’s more to life than Silverfang, battles, and responsibilities. That I’m more than the keystone.”
He fell silent for a moment, hands brushing mine again, almost hesitant. “I… like seeing that side of you,” he said finally. “The side I get to protect… and be with.”
I caught his hand, squeezing it gently. “And I like that you care enough to stay by my side. Even here.”
His lips curved into a shy smile, and he led me into a quiet garden tucked away behind a cluster of small houses. The air smelled of blooming flowers and fresh soil, sunlight warming the petals. A fountain gurgled softly nearby, and for a while, we just stood there, letting the world move around us without concern.
“You know…” he began hesitantly, fingers brushing mine again, “I’ve never been good at saying things… the things I feel. But I want you to know… I think about you. Constantly. Even when I’m supposed to be… thinking about Silverfang.”
I tilted my head, a faint blush warming my cheeks. “Aiden…” I whispered. “I feel the same way. You don’t need words—your presence tells me everything.”
He hesitated, golden light pulsing faintly from him. “Then… can I?” he asked softly, almost a question rather than a statement.
Before I could answer, he stepped closer, closing the distance between us. My breath caught as his hands cupped my face, thumbs brushing lightly over my cheeks. I felt the warmth of him radiating into me, grounding me, anchoring me in a way Silverfang had never needed to.
Then, slowly, deliberately, he leaned in. Our lips met softly at first—gentle, testing, tasting, as if both of us were discovering what it meant to be truly close. My fingers threaded through the back of his hair, pulling him slightly closer, matching the tenderness of his touch.
The kiss deepened, more urgent now, as if both our hearts were trying to speak through it. His lips were warm and firm, pressing against mine with a mixture of caution and longing. I felt his hands move from my face to my waist, pulling me flush against him. I gasped softly into the kiss, the world shrinking to just the press of our lips, the warmth of our bodies, the rhythm of our hearts.
When he finally pulled back slightly, forehead resting against mine, his breath was ragged, and golden light shimmered faintly around him. “I… I’ve wanted that… for so long,” he admitted, voice low, vulnerable. “I didn’t know if I’d ever have the courage to say it.”
I smiled softly, brushing my fingers over his lips. “You don’t have to say anything, Aiden. You showed me. That’s enough.”
He chuckled softly, hiding his face in my hair for a moment. “I’m always afraid I’ll mess it up. That… that my words won’t match what I feel.”
I pressed a kiss to his temple, smiling. “You don’t need words. You have me. And I’ll always understand.”
We lingered there, wrapped in each other, letting sunlight spill over us, the fountain’s gentle trickle and the distant hum of life providing a quiet symphony. For a while, neither of us spoke, letting the intimacy of the moment hold us together.
Finally, Aiden tilted his head, brushing his lips against mine again, this time slower, more lingering, savoring the closeness, the warmth, the certainty of it. I wrapped my arms around him, fingers gripping the fabric of his shirt as the kiss deepened, tender yet filled with the unspoken promise of devotion.
When we pulled apart, both of us breathless, he rested his forehead against mine. “I don’t care where we are… human realm, Silverfang… it doesn’t matter,” he murmured. “I just want to be with you. Always.”
I smiled, tracing a hand down his chest. “Then we’ll take these moments whenever we can,” I whispered. “Away from the world. Away from the battles. Just… us.”
Golden light mingled with silver as our magic threads intertwined faintly, invisible but palpable. In that quiet garden, among sunlight and blossoms, I felt it—a rare, precious peace. The future was still uncertain, the world still dangerous, but in Aiden’s arms, I felt safe, cherished, and loved.
And for the first time in a long while, I allowed myself to believe that love—real, patient, grounding love—was enough.
He kissed me again, soft and lingering, holding me close as if letting go would unravel everything we had fought for. I clung to him just as tightly, letting the warmth of his presence fill the spaces I had long thought empty.
Here, in the human realm, under sunlight and silver threads of magic, we didn’t need words. We didn’t need battles. All we needed was each other.
And that was enough.
