Chapter 54 Oblivious Angel
Chapter 54 Oblivious Angel
SIENNA
My day at the office today was complete chaos. I couldn't get a grip on my own emotions, and that infuriated me more than anything else.
Lucien's girlfriend, Amara, was gone. She left the office shortly after Lucien's arrival and hadn't returned until now—the break hour.
I was supposed to be relieved. Scratch that. I wasn't supposed to feel anything. Lucien and I were never an item. He never properly asked me to be his woman. Everything I'd assumed us to be these past few months was nothing. Just assumptions I'd created in my head to stop seeing myself as a fool. An idiot. A bastard.
My chest constricted as I packed my things into my bag and stood up from my swivel chair. It wasn't supposed to hurt. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
Lucien and I were never a thing. Even if we were, we would never have ended up together. Our worlds were different, and no wealthy family would allow their son to marry a divorcée.
"Sienna. Where are you going?" The smile on Angel's lips froze when she saw my face. I was making it obvious. Very obvious. And that angered me.
Get a grip on yourself, Sienna. Control your emotions. This was going to happen regardless.
"Home," I muttered. "I... I think I'm a bit sick. Please help me get the day off from Ethan."
"What happened?" Genuine concern replaced the shock on her face. She stood up and walked to my side. "You were fine when we left home this morning."
"Ye... Yes," I stuttered. "I... I don't know. Everything just changed. I'll go to the hospital first for a checkup and then go home."
"Are you sure you don't want me to go with you?"
"No." I shook my head. "There are still tasks to do, and I don't think Lucien's new secretary would find it funny if she doesn't see them completed tomorrow."
Mentioning that name didn't help with what was happening to me. Her image appeared in my head... the way Lucien held her hand and they went into the office... My blood spiked aggressively. I'd been in his office multiple times, and I knew what we always did there.
Did they do the same thing? Did he fuck her on the same table he'd taken me on multiple times? Did he pin her to the wall too and tell her he loved her?
"Sienna!" Angel's voice interrupted my thoughts, causing me to raise my gaze to hers.
"Ehn?"
"I was asking if you'll need some money for the checkup or if you have enough..."
"Ye... Yes," I stuttered. "Yes, I do." I forced a smile and placed my hands on Angel's shoulders, squeezing them lightly. "I know you're worried about me, Angel, and I appreciate that a lot, but you don't have to worry about me. It's nothing. I'll take care of myself."
Although the worry and doubt were still on her face, she nodded and smiled back.
"Take care of yourself, and don't hesitate to send me a text if anything happens."
"Yeah. Thank you, love," I told her.
Just then, the office door opened and Ethan stepped out. He paused for a few seconds and swept his gaze over me.
"Going for a break?" he asked.
"I..."
"No, Mr. Ethan," Angel interrupted before I could respond. "She's feeling a bit under the weather and wants to go to the hospital."
"She's sick?" His expression shifted into what I would have considered concern if I didn't know the kind of person he truly was.
"N... No," I interjected instantly. "I just need to get something from the hospital."
Angel clutched my shoulders and flashed a smile. God. I felt like crying and smiling at the same time. How did Angel become the devil today?
"She's lying. She's sick." She emphasized each word. "And she might need a few days off to recover. Do you think it's possible to give her a few days, Mr. Ethan?"
Ethan's eyes met mine, and God, it felt uncomfortable as hell. I hated that look. He had no right to look at me as though I was pathetic. I wasn't.
"Ye... Yes. She can take a few days off. I'll process her leave when I return to my office."
Angel squealed with excitement.
"Yes!" She squeezed my shoulder. I doubted she even realized she was doing that. "Thank you, Mr. Ethan. You're the best."
That last statement made it impossible for me to hold back my chuckle. I laughed and shook my head slightly.
He was the best? Oh, my Angel. Wait until you find out what an asshole he really is.
"It's fine, Angel. That's what colleagues are for," he responded.
Oh, pretender! My stomach churned with irritation. I couldn't deal with his two-faced attitude anymore.
So I simply bowed slightly.
"Thank you, Mr. Ethan. I've got to go now."
I was just about to turn toward the elevators when he spoke.
"I'll drop you off."
Holy shit.
Ethan was doing this intentionally, and I hated that it was the worst possible timing. He should have just left me alone today and done whatever he wanted for the next year or even longer.
But today?
Today?
I needed this day for myself. For my sanity. Lucien had already messed with me. Ethan shouldn't make it worse.
I tilted my head and flashed a hypocritical smile.
"No, Mr. Ethan. Thank you."
"No. I insist, Sienna," he countered almost immediately, and I could have sworn I saw his lips move as though he wanted to smile but changed his mind at the last second.
I glanced at Angel. She was still smiling, totally oblivious to the damage she'd done.
I pressed my lips together.
Gosh. I feel like slapping her and yelling her crime into her ears.
"Oh my God. I didn't know you were this kind, Mr. Ethan," she complimented. Then she shifted her gaze to me.
"If Mr. Ethan offered to take you to the hospital, go with him. You don't even have a car, so it's better if he drops you off."
"Angel... I..." I turned to Ethan again. "I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and concern, but I really don't need you to drop me off. I can get to the hospital by myself."
"I insist, Sienna," he said.
"He insists, Sienna. Come on," Angel mumbled. If I didn't know her better, I would have assumed she'd planned this with Ethan.
Knowing I had no choice, I decided to give in. I would definitely send his ass back from the hospital.
"Okay. Fine."
