Pride comes before the fall
Holding onto his wrist, I took a stand, smiling at mister Felov whose demeanor didn’t change and his eyes glued to me. “What did I just hear you say?” He asked calmly.
“There no problem mister Felov, you don’t have to worry—so please don’t” I took hold of his wrist, squeezing onto him tightly so stop whatever he thought he wanted to do, it wouldn’t profit anyone here.
“And you are?” Felov asked, a grin forming on his lips. This seemed to be escalating and chaos had begun to creep into my thoughts. What on earth am I to do to break the ice between two gentlemen?
Dante turned to look at me as I shook my head in disapproval to stop him from saying anything out of turn. If this goes south, who knows what Claire would do about those videos, everything will fall through, my effort to fit in these would go to waste. The air felt thick, the tension between both of them felt eerie. I looked around to find the other guests turning to see them both. This was drawing more attention than intended.
“He’s my boyfriend—and he’s just quite worried about me” I smiled, easing the tension on one end, on Dante’s end “That’s all” I glared at him, he rolled his eyes, knowing he’d have to follow through and walk far away, although I could see the smirk on the lips.
“Then it’s alright—Although, I doubt that it would be a problem, do call me whenever you can—miss Thompson” Felov said with a light smile, his eyes never leaving mine, those set of eyes stared at me softly before walking off. I sank my bottoms on the seat, taking a deep breath.
“So I’m yours—” he stated, it sounded as though he was asking. Although parts of me felt awkward about being that open about our relationship, the other part of me felt ecstatic, with this revelation, maybe Felov would lose interest in me completely.
“Just go—I’ll talk to you later” I feigned a pout of anger, turning my face away from him, he didn’t seem to care, he took my chin in his hands, his light green eyes devoid of his natural mischief.
“I won’t cause you any more problems” I raised a brow. Even though he’s great at keeping his word, he wasn’t so great about keeping his distance. He smiled and nodded, walking off. I watched him disappear into the hall. I could finally breathe fine, his aura in such a place felt complicated.
“How’d it go with them?” Feil asked, her tone filled with worry. I quickly put up a smile, holding onto her hand “It was okay—although there was slight complication, it’s all taken care of, I think” she smiled back. Her stiff demeanor escaping through the light breeze.
We stayed some more watching some of the events that came up before the clock hit 9pm. It was time to have some rest. My body had been moving all day, retiring to my hotel room is the only way out of this fatigue. “I think we should retire to your hotel room—it’d be best to have some rest” I suggested to Feil whose eyes lingered around the well dressed man from before.
“Feil!” I said, almost in a yell to draw her attention, panicked, she turned to me with sulking eyes “Fine—you can go with him, I’ll get back to the hotel but make sure you’re back by morning” I said sternly, almost sounding like a dotting mother. She nodded happily and I picked up my purse heading to leave when I heard a chuckle from behind.
“I knew it had to be you” that low feminine tone, the light cackle coming from her lips—no, it can’t be—
I turned to look at the face which had a familiar voice “Don’t you remember me?” A familiar tone to my ears, daunting and spiteful, how can anyone forget?
“Penelope—what do you want?” My voice devoid of any emotion as I clutched onto my purse, hoping that I wouldn’t have to use it across her face. She smiled, looking straight at me.
“I couldn’t tell if it was you before you walked out—how did you get here?” Her question was vague and miserable, just like her. I’d rather not answer her and so I contemplated turning around, getting into the car and leaving but then an elderly man emerged. His clear grey hair indicating age, the crinkles around his eyes rubbing together, his suit etched on his body like a second skin because of his bulging stomach.
“My darling Pen—” he called from behind, placing his arm around his waist, her smile seemed forced and the lust in his eyes as clear as day. Holding onto my purse, I watched them share some sort of affection that I’d hate access to if it was a man this elderly.
“My baby—” she smiled at him, holding his hand as their security personnel walked behind them like some guard dog.
“Who is this beautiful young lady?” He asked. I prayed so hard that he wouldn’t notice, but it seemed to late to try to escape, I kept my gaze on both faces, my heart didn’t pound against my chest as it did in highschool whenever I saw Penelope. Her jet black hair giving me the chills when I was younger just because she would make fun of me, break my pens and disrupt me whenever she could that I grew scared of her actions. But here she was, right in front of me and the only feeling I had was the anger that would drive me to pummel her face to the ground.
“Don’t really mind her presence love—she and I were friends in Highschool” she lied, I stared blankly without a word “I’m not sure she even wanted to be here in such a dress that doesn’t suit her—maybe forced, but definitely not in the right space” I sensed malice in her tone. I’d rather die than call such an old geezer my lover, and she’s pulling me down in front of him? She hasn’t changed even one bit.
A smile formed on my lips “But i wasn’t forced—infact, I had initially came with someone but he disappeared into the crowd to get something” I chuckled, the feeling of satisfaction creeping into my skin. The grin on her face faded “But I’ll be heading home soon—I’m really tired” I yawned, covering my mouth with the back of my hand.
“You came with someone—to this event?” She scoffed, almost bursting into laughter “We all know that no one wants a virgin idiot like you” she smiled. I clenched my fist, wanting to throw my purse across her face but I stood still, if anything were to happen out of turn, it wouldn’t end well, so I took in a deep breath and turned to leave when I felt his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him.
“Are you leaving without me Amorino?” He smiled, his deep yet soft baritone melting the anger in my veins, his subtle scent filling my lungs, instinctively, I wrapped my arm around his back, watching Penelope’s smile fade completely and hee eyes pale.
“Well I was—but not anymore” I smiled back, he chuckled, leaning down for a kiss, I tapped his lips lightly with mine “You’ve got a special treat tonight”
“Wh—what? You’ve got to be kidding me—do you think I’d fall for your little show? You pay for a young man to play as a loving boyfriend, is that it?” She asked, gritting her teeth with anger whilst her lover watched us both, his eyes wide open before he bent his head low, stopping her frantic panicking.
“Mister Moretti—I didn’t know you’d be attending the event” he said in a raspy voice, I looked at the old geezer, his head slightly bent “I must welcome you sir—it is my pleasure” he continued. Penelope paused, turned her eyes to him, widened with shock.
“It’s fine—what department and subsidiary did you say you work in again?” He inquired. I knew what would be next, it felt daunting but exhilarating at least. Penelope clutched onto her lover’s arm.
“Branch 3, Head of finance sir” he answered plainly, I could only watch the drama when she clutched onto him, realization dawning on her.
“Alright then—have a good night” Dante said with a cold expression as we walked out, I smiled profusely, that sure hurt her ego, Penelope, the little btch that wouldn’t let Annie and I live in peace.
She rushed towards him, taking his hand in hers “I can be a better lover than her—there’s no way she’s worth it!” She mumbled, her hands fidgeting as he turned them away, disgust written on his face “Pl—please, I can make you love me” the desperation in her tone leaving no room for pride, having me wonder how this despicable wench tried to bully us in the first place.
Slapping off her hand from his “Stick to yours pen—and stay away from what’s mine” I held onto him, letting him take me away, I felt the subtle smile on my lips when I mouthed “See you around btch!”
We made our way to the car and I sank my body in the soft cushion, placing my back tightly so I can rest, a day doesn’t go by without some form of drama keeping me at the edge of my seat. It felt exhilarating talking to her like that. I had totally forgotten about her after I came to NewYork with the thought that we had all grown up and she’d change, she definitely hadn’t grown up or changed and having Dante was my ticket to freedom and happiness. I stared at her from the back, looking at the despair on her face felt satisfying.
Just as the car had begun to move, I felt his hand on my neck, I slapped it off. “Not now—not here” I said in between my teeth, it didn’t matter, but those mischievous pair of eyes found it’s way into my soul, staring at me with a grin.
“Don’t forget you promised—you’d do anything” he whispered, his fingers tracing my face, a smirk on his lips. My mind wandered back to when I had said that.
“But it doesn’t mean in the car” I whispered back, placing his hands away, because of his skin were to come in contact with mine, I might lose it completely. I had started feeling sweaty, my heart raced. Then I felt something on my chest, it was his tongue, licking up my sweat, a grin on his face.
“I don’t care where it is—I’ll love you properly” he placed his lips on mine, his hands cupping my face as I let his tongue slide in my mouth. He tastes so good, why does he taste this sweet?
