Chapter 30 Escape!

Chapter 30 Escape!
I couldn’t believe I let my lips say something so vulgar but he didn’t seem to mind, I placed my hands over my mouth, slipping out of his sight for just a split second, trying to escape. His lips curved into a thin line, his eyes went into mischievous mode.
“Not yet—” he smirked. For a second, I paused to think why he would say that but as I crept underneath his arm, making an escape, I felt it was for the better. Pulling my jeans up my waist, I made my way for the door.
“If—if you’re not ill, then don’t pretend to be” I fussed, standing up, pulling up my zipper as I tried hard not to look at him. I couldn’t, I turned to stare, he put his shirt over his body, leaving his underwear underneath.
Get a hold of yourself woman!
“You okay?” A grin on his face, he was obviously elated that his body had done something to me that I would never forget or want to get rid of. I quickly turned away, nodding immediately. “Well—that’s settled” he muttered underneath that soothing baritone that seemed to give me weak knees.
“Please—let me just leave” I mumbled profusely, until I felt his arms around me from behind, his face on my shoulder, staring at me. His body rubbing against mine from the back, it bulged against my jeans. I tried to loosen his grip, he didn’t budge.
“Now tell me—Lily Thompson, where did you really go?” He whispered, no form of animosity in his tone, yet, I felt my soul leave my body, escaping through the ceiling. My heart hammered against my chest, I swallowed hard under his watchful gaze.
“I went to see Claire—she called last night” I turned to face him “she has a solution to the problem I caused and so when she called for a meeting—I had to go, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you” I closed my eyes, hopeful to shield them from his piercing gaze that I was sure if looks could kill, I would be dead.
“Please don’t be angry with me—” I felt his lips on mine, his hands below my waist, pulling me in. I opened my eyes to stare at his long lashes close to my face and I pulled away, staring at him in shock.
“Ar—aren’t you mad at me?” I asked, his eyes opened to stare, a glint of mischief in them, cupping my face in his hand, he smiled, letting the curve of his lips reach only his side,.
“Do you think I wouldn’t know when my lady’s out of bed?” He asked, a soft baritone whispering in my ears, he looked enthralling, “I knew when you snuck out of bed, your scent still lingered but it wasn’t there—you were on the phone with someone and so I waited for you to be done but you left me here and went straight to meet her, at her hotel—I feel kinda jealous”
There it was again, his scent seeping into my nostrils and my eyes unable to hold his gaze “So—what did you both talk about?” He smiled, his canines concealed under those beautiful lips of his. I looked down at his lips and then his eyes to see the grin lingering.
“How did you know that I was with her all morning—and her hotel?” I didn’t expect him to be utterly clueless but to be accurate? I didn’t expect that either. Then it hit me, “Did you spy on me?” I pointed a finger at him, he didn’t seem to be fazed, instead he placed his lips on my hand. I stared at his action, confused. Who on earth is this man?
Pulling out my finger “Pervert!” There was still that grin on his face. He didn’t deny it.
“I did send someone to make sure you’re safe—with everything that’s going on back at the company, it would be a bad idea to let you leave without someone to protect you” he explained, even as right as he was, that was wrong.
“I know your heart’s in the right place but it’s never right to spy on me—I’m a grown woman with my own thoughts” I said, somewhat feeling sad, my hands folded as I rolled my eyes. He placed his finger on my chin, lifting my face to look at him.
“As long as you always tell me where you’re going—I won’t spy on you—or send someone to stalk you” there was sincerity in his tone. I pulled out my pinky finger with a childish smile on my lips.
“You promise?” He nodded, placing his finger the same and letting them intertwine, I let out an exasperated sigh, glad that my confrontation didn’t take a toll on me. I had grown to actually smile instead of fretting at what might happen.
Just as we stood at a standstill, his hand went behind my back and his lips quickly went down my neck, I put my hands on his shoulder, pushing him back “What do you plan to do about Denise?” I asked.
“I thought you and Claire already talked about that” he teased, going back to placing his lips on my neck. It made no sense that he just dismissed the issues about his company to my hands, so I pushed him off again.
“I’m going to have some rest” I said as I headed for the door, then I heard a swooshing sound, he was right in front of me, hands flared in both directions as though to stop me, I raised my brow at him. If I had anymore of his scent or even spend more time around him, who knows where I’ll end up, under him or above?
“What is it now?” I asked with a drained look on my face. His eyes seemed to speak a lot these days, asking for a hug or a kiss to soothe him.
“Just one—one kiss” he stared at me. I knew it from the start, so I leaned in, planted a kiss on his cheek, moved underneath his arms and made my way out.
“I’ll do it!” I said to Claire who sat at the other side of the line with determination in my blood. It was obvious that I had somehow broken Dante, the only thing he wants from me, is me.
“A nice conclusion darling—“ her voice soft with a mix of seductiveness, just as usual. “The event’s in two days, you’ll be led to where you’ll get ready by Feil, my assistant, she’ll tell you what to do and how to do it, your etiquette as well—”
“If your assistant is so good and knows what is to be done—why don’t you just send her instead?” There was a long pause, then there was laughter. Is she laughing at me right now?!
“Don’t make my heart stop beating—you’re quite funny” she said, I took out the phone from my ear and placed it close to my face to see if I was still speaking to the right person.
“Are you really finding this serious matter hilarious?” I asked sternly and almost immediately she stopped, clearing her throat before continuing what she wanted to say.
“You just need to go there and be my representative—my assistant can’t do that, she’s not up to the task” for someone who had just met me only months ago, she sure spoke big about competence, one that I wasn’t sure I had in home.
“Fine—but make sure you honor our deal” I said, hearing the knock on the door, I hung up, heading straight for it and opening it just a little bit to find a drenched Dante, standing right outside my door, his towel tied to his waist and a smirk on his face.
“What?” I asked, unenthusiastically. Maybe if I act like I don’t care, he won’t make those snappy remarks or try to touch me. Those ground rules I set are at their limit. His body dripping wet, his jet black hair having wet strands close to his face. His Roman numerals tattoo boldly shown on the left side of his chest. It was obvious he was playing some sort of game.
“Eight o’clock tomorrow—for dinner?” His voice sent a shiver down my spine. His authoritative tone mixed with subtlety. I took in a deep breath, closing the door just a bit so he could see only my face, he placed his hand on the oakwood, stopping it.
“I’ll be busy—you know I have somewhere to be” I declined, hoping that he’d walk away whilst I made my expression clear that I wanted him to leave.
“Can I at least join you?” he looked at my lips and then down my chest. I pulled my arms over my chest, staring at him with feigned anger, for some reason, I wanted his eyes on me and not just on my lips.
“No—you can’t—and you can’t send a spy!” I warned
“Or else what?” He did enjoy teasing me. I kissed my teeth, trying to close the door when his hand stood in the way and I heard a subtle ‘Ow’
I turned back to him, my hands on his as he crouched down “You shouldn’t have kept your finger between the door” I complained but he didn’t care, he raised his eyes to look at me, then standing up, I did the same, looking back to see what he stared so intently at but then he started walking towards me.
“Sta—stay away!” I yelled, pulling back, there was no response, just a smirk on those sweet lips of his, I pulled back some more, my body pressing against the wall, he leaned on my neck, his warm breath on my skin.
“Today’s the day—the day I show you what you want”
