Chapter 28 Blood isn't Thicker
Chapter 28 Blood isn't Thicker
There was a loud thud at the back of my head. What on earth is going on? What just happened?
I felt my knees on the hard ground and soon my body joining it on the floor “You look so beautiful—I’m sure everyone wants a taste of you” he sneered, his feet next to my body, I felt his fingers tracing my back, my body felt immobile, too heavy to move.
This btard!
I placed my hands on the floor, pulling my body to my room, dragging on “That didn’t take you out?” He chuckled, pulling at my legs. “You’ll satisfy my needs!” He yelled, dragging me back before turning my body to face him.
Regaining a bit of strength, I poked his eyes with my fingers, “You bch!” He cried in pain. Forcing my body, I stood up, his body still on the floor, his hands covering his eyes as he crawled with his back to the ground.
I rushed back to my room, trying to move as swiftly as my body would carry me, it couldn’t.
I felt his hand on my ankle pulling me back and instinctively, I kicked without thinking and I heard him yell out in pain “Bch!” He cursed holding his crotch. A smile formed on my lips but my moment of happiness was short lived when I plopped to the floor.
“No—” I panted, my hands on the floor and my eyes closing shut.
I opened them to sheets above my chest, white light blinking in my eyes, a machine beeping and a figure sitting by my side. I turned to look at him, it was Dante, his hands clasped together as though he was praying, his scent of sandalwood mixed with the smell of antibiotic drugs and antiseptics, first time they didn’t linger in my lungs.
“Da—dante” I mumbled, clutching onto the sheets that covered me. He turned to look at me, a feeling of dread in his eyes, they looked red, his light green eyes held anger and sadness all together.
“Wh—what happened?” I mumbled, he stayed frozen, that didn’t seem normal, not in the slightest “Why aren’t you answering me?” I asked, stretching my arm towards him to hold onto his clasped hands. He quickly held onto me, taking my palm to his lips, planting a kiss on my hand.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there—that I wasn’t there on time” he apologized, his expression now stone cold “I’m never going to let that happen to you again—ever” closing his eyes as he planted some more kisses on my palm, his touch felt warm, I smiled at him.
“I know it’s not your fault—that btard is the one who needs to feel awful—and my mother as well, those are the people to blame” he stared at me with such a subtle look, it would be impossible to look away.
“Where are they?”
“Who?” For some reason I wanted to know where my mother’s pervert had gone and she too. There’s no way I’d be lying in the hospital and she would ignore me, the same way she’s been ignoring my calls.
“My mother—” I paused, excluding her boyfriend completely, knowing fully well that by now, he would be taken care of “Where is she?” My throat felt dry and my sentence came out wryly.
There was no response, I could understand what that meant, ofcourse she chose her stupid boyfriend over me, probably because I’m not her daughter. Just as I struggled to keep my eyes open with my palm in between his hands, the door of the room pryed open, letting the doctor walk in slowly.
“Miss Thompson” he said, clutching a book in his hands, his face filled with crinkles and smile lines. We both turned to look at him. “Your report looks very good—you’ve been stabilized and you can go home” he smiled. I clenched onto Dante’s palm with a smile on my lips.
“Thank you doctor” we both said as he made his way out.
After a while, we made our way out of the hospital and had begun to head home in the dark. “You know you could’ve stayed some more—y’know to heal right” Dante started, his hand holding onto my wrist.
“I hate hospitals—they make me feel pitiful” he paused “I hate the smell, I hate how it makes me feel incapable” I complained. He paused, pulling me into an embrace, as sudden as it was, I didn’t reject it. I wrapped my arms around him, soaking in his scent and letting it seep into my skin.
“Oh—two lovebirds, lookie what we have here” a voice emerged from the dimly lit road. Dante pulled onto me, drawing me to stay behind him “Your missus looks cute” he retorted, arranging the cigarette in his mouth, a scrawny expression on his face.
“Who are you and what do you want?” Dante asked in a form tone, he didn’t look like he was going to pity them, his eyes went low and he looked expressionless. He turned to look back at me who shivered with fear, regretting my decision to go home at this time of the night, putting both our lives at risk. Dante didn’t seem to care, he placed me behind him, I held onto his shirt and I wasn’t sure why.
“Two lovey dovey—are you both new here?” One asked, throwing his cigarette to the ground with a gnarly look in his eye, one mixed with mischief “If you’re new, at least we’ll let you go—you just have to beg for your life” he sneered, turning to one of his friends who held a baseball bat in his hands. They already looked and felt scary, my body shivered with fear.
Dante took in a deep breath “Just stay right here and don’t move—okay” a subtle tone he used clearly only for me, I held his hand, shaking my head, a smile formed on his lips “Don’t be scared—I’ll be fine” and although I believed him, I found it difficult to let go of his hand. And when I eventually did let it, I walked back, sitting on a little pavement.
“So you won’t even beg for your life?” He chuckled, “Get him and bring the girl to me” he ordered. I couldn’t help but trust Dante fully with my life. That jet black hair of his damp with sweat and anger, his eyes held a glare of rage. For some reason, I felt pity for these men.
He didn’t run, he stood his ground, letting them come to him, the first swung a bat, Dante dodged it, giving a punch to his gut, the man fell to his knees, clutching his abdomen as blood oozed out from his lips.
“One blow—” I mumbled, a smile forming on my lips. They moved in groups of two, it deemed futile, he didn’t let anyone near me. Once I noticed one of them turning around so he could meet me, I’ve seen this all before, lived it too, hold me hostage, using me to cripple him “Not today” I mumbled, taking a stone in my hand, I held tightly onto it, hitting his head so much he had begun to bleed.
There was this silence that came with the groaning of the grown men sprawled on the ground, some of them with baseball bats next to them. Dante made his way to their daring leader who now cowered in fear, pulling back as quickly as he could, Dante dragged him to where I sat, pulling him by the collar.
“P—please, please spare me” he pleaded, tears forming in his eyes. Dante didn’t look lenient. He held him up, kicking his knee and making him kneel with his hands clasped together to plead.
“Who sent you?” The first question he had asked the pleading man from the beginning. His voice remained low, I could tell from his eyes that he wasn’t going to wait around on an answer with the way this man stuttered. I didn’t intervene, they got what was coming.
“Don’t make me repeat myself” the man raised his eyes to meet Dante’s.
“It—it’s her—a woman in her forties” he stuttered, his eyes brimming with fear.
“Doesn’t she have a name?” Dante asked casually, the man shivered, his hands clasped together, his eyes shut “If I ask again—I’ll likely send you and your buddies to hell”
“No—please don’t! She’s quite known here” I wasn’t loving where this was going. First it’s a female and she’s quite known, don’t tell me it’s—
“Her name is Pamela—Pamela Thompson” he rubbed his palms together “Please let us go” he pleaded.
That name rung a bell in my mind before it was even said “That bch” I cursed. Since she had gotten used to hating on me and extorting my money, she resorted to this after her perverted boyfriend tried to have his way with me. This only confirmed it, the truth. There’s no way in this fking world is she my mother.
“My mother put you up to this?” I asked, a cold, daunting expression on my face. Now I wanted to squeeze her neck until she begs and pleads. The man looked up to see my face.
“She’s your mo—mother?” He stuttered, a suprised look on his face, not to be trusted, yet, he looked as though he pitied me “I don’t know why a mother would send people to beat up her daughter—but I’m sorry for this” he begged, his voice low and sincere.
“Dante—leave him, we’re heading back to my mother’s” I said sternly, walking into the direction of the place I once called home.
The moment we got to the front door, we heard clanking inside “Did you guys forget anything? Don’t kill the Goodlooking one, just make sure he’s paraly—” she stopped
“Why mother—oh sorry Pamela, because there’s no way I’m believing that you gave birth to me” a tear trickled down my cheek “After all I’ve done for you—you send goons to try to kill me, after that rpist boyfriend of yours hit me hard on the head—you tried to kill me!” I yelled, lunging at her, anger fueling my attack as I pushed her to the ground, Dante holding me back.
“Don’t you even care about me just a little—just a bit?!” I cried out, sniffling.
“Why on earth should I care?” She pulled herself back up “Why should I? After your father, my brother killed the man I loved, making me cater for you like it was my punishment for being his sister—why should I care?!” She yelled back.
“Your father killed him—and I’m going to join him soon” taking out a knife, she sliced the flesh on her wrist.
“Mom?
!” I yelled, rushing to her aid—
“If you come close to me—I’ll slit your throat and mine!”
