Chapter 26 Rivalry
Chapter 26 Rivalry
Clara stood frozen in shock, I didn’t just wipe the smudge off her face, I gave her a new expression.
“Country bumpkins?!” Jasmine retorted, “You’ve got to be joking” Danielle scoffed almost lunging at me whilst her boyfriend held her arm. Ofcourse I wasn’t the same person they had seen years ago, I look different, sound different and act different.
“You’re just feeling good because you think your man is goodlooking” Clara snapped “We all know what you had to do to get him” she laughed.
“Yeah—like using your body” Jasmine joined in. It made Dante move, I held his arm, telling him to stand down from the corner of my eye, she’s pregnant and bichy, I’ve learnt how to deal with trash like she and her friends.
“Well at least I’m not pregnant by a man who stands there while he hears his wife gets roasted” I snapped back, Dante smiled at me, his arm on my waist, she gritted her teeth in anger “Good night” I walked off with a smile on my lips, at least I had a win tonight.
“Won’t you be coming to the little reunion?” Danielle called out, I turned to her, a scoff in my throat, who do they think they are? Some kind of pacifists that would speak and I’d come running and sulking up to them?
“Danielle! Why would you even tell her about that?” Clara asked, anger in her voice, it was obvious that she didn’t want me near the reunion and it gives me pleasure to know that she would be angry if I attended but then, I could see through their ploy.
“Yeah Danielle—why would you do that?” Jasmine raised a brow. She looked at me.
She turned to her mean friends “She looks like a hotshot now—also, it’ll interest everyone else to see her” then she turned to look at me again “I do hope you attend, I’ll send you the address” I rolled my eyes before walking off. It was obvious why they wanted the reunion to happen with me around. Dante.
It was a bit obvious from the way she threw glances at him, hee fluttering eyes went for him, staring so hard they would bore holes in his face.
“Don’t tell me you’re going” he chuckled, noticing the evil smile on my lips. They had made most of my time in highschool miserable. From being called funny names to being hated for being smart and a numbers lover, I could tell that they wanted nothing more but to ‘put me in my place’ but they didn’t know how but seeing him, he might be their trump card.
“I’d love to see some drama unfold” I replied, heading on to the rest of the festival, trying to drown my thoughts in the beauty I failed to miss back here.
The next day my head hurt, I groaned in pain when I raised my head to avoid the rays of the sun, there he was, almost shirtless, his light green eyes staring at me, his fist on his chin “Good morning” I mumbled, trying to understand my surroundings.
“What happened?” I winced in pain, he held up a cup of water and medicine in his palm, a smile on his lips. What on earth is he smiling about? What happened last night at the festival?
“I didn’t know you could take drinks like that” a mischievous grin imprinted on his face. I paused after placing the medicine in my mouth and dousing it with water. What on earth is he talking about? Then it all came flooding in, I had taken one glass of alcohol and then the second and soon my legs felt wobbly and my head dizzy.
“Oh God!” I exclaimed, clutching onto his arm as he burst out laughing “Did I do something stupid?!” I panicked, holding onto my hair as I ruffled it. He couldn’t help but smile at me.
“What are you smiling at?—that means I did do something stupid!” I exclaimed, almost pulling at my hairs. He held onto my hands which stayed on my hair, pinning me to the bed in such a state of confusion.
“Wh—what are you doing?” I mumbled, a grin on his face, his eyes brimming with mischief, he took my hands from my hair, pinning them above my head as gently as he could, his grip on my hand didn’t loosen. “Let go of me!” I yelled, struggling to set myself free. As much as I wanted him to let go, I wanted to feel his breathing on my skin, to let his lips collide with mine. It didn’t faze him, instead he smiled some more, taking one hand and placing it on my abdomen, his hand on my skin felt warm yet my body felt as though it was lit on fire.
“This is punishment for yesterday” he grinned. This was him enjoying himself by teasing me.
“But what did I do?” I cried out, his fingers tracing my abdomen, it felt ticklish, cute but different. I had begun smiling and laughing hysterically. “Stop—you’ll make me laugh so much” I kept laughing out, until he stopped, letting his fingers off my abdomen whilst his hand still held my wrist above my head.
“You’ll always look amazing” he smiled. The mischievous grin fading into a beautiful smile. He also looked amazing. Everyone would be shocked to see him without a suit and tie and he still looks this good. His eyes fixated on mine, he leaned in but he didn’t come to my face, he went straight for my neck, his lips soft and moist on my skin, it felt like Deja vu.
I didn’t shut my eyes this time, his hands didn’t go down my skin but his lips went soft on them, moving, going up to my ear, mincing on them, I bit on my lower lip to keep a moan from escaping.
“You’re not letting yourself hold on too much” he whispered. I couldn’t understand what he meant, my insides felt different, my fingers trembled and my heart raced “Maybe I’m not trying enough” he used his free hand, placing his palm on my thigh. I chose the wrong day to wear shorts to bed. I could vividly remember trying to beg myself not to wear shorts outside.
His hand held up my arms, still suspended, not that o could do anything if they were free. He looked down to see my face, my cheeks blushed red, my body in full heat and my heart racing.
“I love it when you look at me like that” he let go of my wrists, he didn’t push further, he pulled back, walking away from me. Is he being serious right now? He just leaves me hanging? What on earth is the meaning of that? He kisses me on the neck, make my body have hot flashes and my mind go bizzare only for him to walk out on me like it all never happened?
“You’ll need to freshen up” he said “I’m heading out” does it not occur to him that my body aches for him at times like these? My eyes twitch at the thought as I watched him put a shirt over his body, his tattooed body being covered up.
“Lily—come help me out here” mother screamed for me. I turned to the door. He stared at me before walking out. I wanted to wrap my hands around his neck and squeeze the life out of him for that single act of walking away, but I made my way outside to listen to mother. After all, I needed a reason to ask her about the truth.
Just as I went out to see her, I noticed her little boyfriend, Samuel smiling at her, a cigarette in his mouth, his eyes turned to me.
“You called?” I rolled my eyes at him, ignoring those lustful eyes. She turned to me.
“Yeah—clean this up, I’m heading to work” she ordered, I held onto her hand, stopping her. She turned to look at me.
“We need to talk—” I turned to her boyfriend “Alone”. He took the message, walking out immediately.
“What do you want to talk about?” She asked harshly, her words didn’t come off as cute or friendly
at least not anymore.
“I want to talk about my father—and now”
