Chapter 30 Chapter 30
Chapter 30 Chapter 30
Amil's POV
I'm engaged, and I'm going to have a baby with the man I love. The only thing that worries me, is Silas, Draven's older brother. Milena said that his mind was processing Everything his brother did to him emotionally.
I thought mine was bad, his was worse than even he knew. After everything was taken care of, we got into a carriage and headed back to the capital. When we got there, we told everyone in the barracks what we found out.
Mael helped us tell them. Yari, Remus, and a few other soldiers who are omegas that have been pregnant before, have given me some tips on what I should and shouldn't do.
They have some pregnancy rites they have helped me learn, along with birth rites and marriage rites I didn't know existed and found interesting.
"There's this pregnancy rite that's called, The Stone Blessing. A sacred stone placed under your bed. They say if it stays warm through your pregnancy, it means your child will live a long life." Yari says as he gives me a hot bowl of soup he made for me.
"What happens if it turns cold?" I ask as I wait for the food to cool off. We're sitting in the common area that's next to the kitchen. Draven is out with Mael and the other Alpha's who are giving him tips on what he should and shouldn't do when I start nesting. Something I didn't know was a thing, so it's just us omegas here at the barracks right now.
And probably teasing him about how he proposed to me and warning him about when I get sudden mood changes that they have experienced with their wives or male omegas.
"Shamans perform protective rituals. I personally like the Womb Painting rite." Remus answers.
"What's that?"
"It's where your stomach is painted with protective symbols in ash, clay, or gold dust to shield the baby from evil eyes and bad omens." He explains.
"Are there any rites in Novalyn?" Yari asked and I nodded.
"Kiara liked this one rite called Sky Threads. She said that, just before birth, women of the village weave ribbons representing wind, rain, and sunlight. Tying them to the baby's cradle to grant nature's blessing. I like The Binding Cord one. You said that whoever is pregnant, ties a braided cord of threads, beads, or a gold thread around their waist at three months, right?" I ask Orion, who is a Celestra from one of the many Sky tribes.
He nods, "Yes. It's said to 'bind' the child's spirit to the womb and prevent wandering soul sickness. Which is unfortunately, real. Now, as for the birth rites, I believe that is Taliesin's specialty."
Just then, Taliesin walks up to us. "I heard you're pregnant, congratulations Amil. It's going to be a difficult time, but I think you will be able to handle it just fine. Which birth rite do you want to know about first?"
Taliesin is a dark elf like Remus, but his skin isn't as dark and his long hair is more blonde than silver.
"Maybe the one you like the most?" I suggest, not knowing what to say. Even though I'm an omega, I've never searched these types of things up because I never thought I would need them. The only reason I know about the one in Novalyn, was because of Kiara who learned about it and found it fascinating.
"I think The Thread of Fate is one that is most liked by both men and women. When I had my daughter, I tied a golden thread to her wrist as a newborn. We only cut it when she said her first word because it's believed that would be the moment she would choose her fate. Her first word was dada. She's only three so, we have yet to find out which fate she chose." He explains as he sits in one of the chairs.
"That reminds me, you should be prepared for the morning sickness. It's worse for us, so if you feel the need to throw up, don't hesitate to say something." Orion cautioned.
I tilt my head, "Throw up what?"
They stare at me in shock. "Have you never gotten sick?" Yari asked and I shook my head.
"No. Kiara never got sick either, at least not from what I remember. When should I expect it to start?"
"You're only a week, so maybe in the next two weeks if not later. You might not get morning sickness at all during your pregnancy. I know I didn't when I was pregnant with my daughter."
"Lucky. When I was pregnant with my son, it was so bad I couldn't leave the toilet for more than ten minutes at most. I had to take medicine to keep it at bay." Orion said, sitting back in his chair.
"Damn, mine wasn't that bad. It happened every other day."
"Don't lie Yari, you were pregnant with triplets. If I remember correctly, you cried every time it happened because once you started, you couldn't stop." Remus scowled at him, making the rest of us laugh.
"Yeah, well, you try carrying three babies at once. You only had two so yours wasn't that bad." Yari argued. "Anyway, we went off topic. What other birth rite is there?"
"There is Moon-Blessed or Sun-Touched, where if the child or children are born under a full moon are gifted with prophetic dreams. Or if they're born at sunrise, they are said to be warriors of destiny." Eryx, a light elf with waist length golden hair and sun tanned skin, explains as he walks over to us.
"Nice of you to finally join us. Did Orla finally go to sleep?" Taliesin asked with a teasing smirk.
Eryx rolled his eyes at him and sighed, "Yes. She fights sleep like it's a monster that will eat her if she doesn't fight back hard enough. She's only six months old." He sits in the chair next to me as he rests his head on his hand, looking exhausted.
"It'll get easier. It's when she turns two that the real fight begins. It won't be just sleep she'll be fighting, it's bath time too." Taliesin groaned in that way all parents get when their child or children are wearing them down.
Eryx chuckles tiredly. "I'll be sure to remember that. She is Mael's daughter after all. I would expect nothing less. When are our Alpha's getting back? Did they go on a hunt or something?" His ancient British accent is thicker when he's tired.
"Now that I think about it. It has been almost two hours. I hope they're okay." Yari worries, his Alpha is Thiago, a leopard shifter.
"They're fine. If they were in immediate danger, I would know from Draven's feelings." I assure them.
"Well, that's good to know that the two of you can share your feelings with each other. I would like to share my feelings with Thiago. Things would be easier to explain."
"If you have a son, what will you name him?" Taliesin asks me.
"Well, I do have one name in mind. Xerxes for a boy, as for a girl, I think I would name her Orinthia."
