Chapter 130 FORESHADOWING
Chapter 130 FORESHADOWING
MICAH'S POV
My fist is still clenched really hard when Max staggers back with shock and surprise in his eyes.
His hand instantly flies up to grasp his jaw with a wince.
The sharp crack of the blow still rings loudly in my ears, as we just stare at each other for a second.
The next second, he lunges himself at me.
We both go down hard on the concrete path, as his large shoulders dig itself into my chest, causing air to wheeze and leave my lungs.
I shove him off instantly, swinging at him once again and catching him near the collarbone.
He yanks the front of the borrowed hoodie, and lands a wild hit against my ribs that causes me to grunt.
Pain instantly flares from that section, but my rage is hotter, and distracts me from the pain.
Everything all happening to me from a few days ago–
Alison’s threats, the rumors, the panic attack, me and Dante calling it quits–
Everything seems to bubble up and blind me in an angry haze that is lit up by Max's provocation.
We rolled away from each other, scrambling up quickly to our feet as Max fired a low blow.
I dodge it and meet him with my forearm, busting his lips.
I may not be as big or strong as Max, but I'm fast. I'm super fast and I fight dirty.
“Hey–hey! Break it up!”
Footsteps rush towards us before trying to separate us.
My knuckles sting but I feel more satisfaction at his busted up appearance.
Strong arms lock around the both of us and yank us backwards.
I thrash against it, but instantly cool down like I've been doused with cold water when I hear Caleb's voice.
“Micah, stop! It’s over now.”
A few feet away from me, Tyler has Max in a tight hold, yelling and turning red from trying to hold Max back.
“Dude! What the fuck is wrong with you, man?” Tyler shouts at Max.
“You picking fights now with our star player?! Championships are just right around the corner and you’re out here starting shit?! Stop this before Coach hears about it!”
Max snarls, then spits blood onto the ground as he tries to twist himself free.
“He’s the one who threw the first punch!”
“I don’t give a shit who started it or initiated it!” Tyler snaps, dragging him farther away from me.
“Walk away now!”
Caleb keeps a firm grip on my shoulders, his arms tight with tension just until Max is out of range and frame.
My chest is still heaving wildly from the adrenaline, but the second the haze disappears, my hands start shaking.
I flex my fingers, wincing at how practice is going to feel with busted knuckles.
Caleb turns me around until we're face to face.
He has a serious and subtly annoyed expression on his face.
“You good?” he asks. “How are you holding up, Micah?”
I let out a rough breath in a sharp exhale.
“I’ve been better.”
He studies me for a long second, before nodding and pulling his phone out of his pocket.
“This is going to be shitty timing right now, but you have to see this.”
He sighs, and after tapping on the screen for a moment, he turns it to face me.
It's the campus gossip forum run by some members of the swim team and the cheer team.
There's a post that already has thousands of likes and reactions on it.
I let out a small gasp seeing myself and Savannah sitting across from each other at a Five Guys, then later close to her car.
“Wha–”
The last image is what truly terrifies me.
It's one that was taken from a long range, and it's one where we were both in the cabin.
My stomach drops.
“What the hell…”
“They’re currently trending,” Caleb says quietly.
“It all started last night, and people are using it to debunk the kissing tumors you have going on right now. Some are saying it's staged, some are saying it's creepy, and there are even some that are saying you play both ways.”
I stare at the images with a feeling of horror.
That cabin was supposed to be the one place away from everyone, somewhere I could take a breather.
To think there were cameras around –
“And I'm sure Dante isn't too happy about this either.”
Fuck.
Is this, is this why he was all fired up and acting all crazy?
“And Savannah too. No one knew the location of this cabin till the photos were posted. I know I'll sound like Maddie, but maybe she isn't really a good friend?”
I blink at him, clearly unsure what to do or say to him.
“I mean think about it Micah, someone had to know you both were going to be there just so they could prepare elaborately and have photos taken. These were clearly not taken from a phone.”
He waves his phone in my direction.
“Plus they followed you the entire day too. Savannah's the only person that would've known all along where the both of you would've been. I don't think she's as clean or as innocent as she's pretending to be, Micah.”
I can’t find words to say right away.
This whole thing is just unraveling and spinning in my head.
I drag a hand down my face and sigh loudly from how messed up everything is for me this week.
“I don’t… I don’t get it,” I finally say.
“She was the only one who didn’t look at me like I was a problem, plus what would be her motive for doing this? I'm not like Tyler or Dante.”
Caleb doesn’t push or think too hard either.
He just switches his phone off, and shrugs.
“I’m not saying I know her endgame for you either,” he says, keeping a steady hand on my shoulder. “But I’m saying you need to open your eyes and maybe not trust her too soon, especially this season.”
“We're too close to championships, and I'd hate to be the one fuck things up.”
