Chapter 70 In his heart, there was no such thing as shame
"Madam, this..."
Lennon wiped the cold sweat off his forehead; he was just a messenger.
"Secretary Lennon, has Mr. Avila been facing any difficulties in business recently?"
Lennon pondered seriously before answering, "No."
No...
After a few seconds of silence, Lara hung up the phone and casually set his mobile aside.
It seemed that she had found the reason for this man's unusual coldness today.
He had to handle the company's affairs, worry about Bella's injury, and also find time to deal with his enemy's daughter.
She couldn't let her unhappiness affect the upcoming wedding, nor could she let herself be too happy and affect his own mood.
Sometimes, Lara felt exhausted for him.
Shortly after finishing his cigarette, Avila returned to his position.
Lara had just ordered a cup of ice cream and was enjoying it with relish.
He furrowed his brow. "Girls shouldn't eat such cold things."
She smiled and stirred the ice cream with her spoon. "There are many types of girls. Strong ones like me may only suffer from menstrual cramps. Nothing serious."
Avila silently gazed at her.
The ice cream tasted both sweet and cold, and she had stirred it until it melted, greatly reducing its flavor. She ate a few spoonsful and then put the spoon down, taking a sip of water to dilute the sweetness in her mouth.
Lara looked up, her expression calm. "Shall we go? I still need to come back for my make up class."
He remained seated, motionless. "There was a problem with the overseas branch. I booked a flight for tonight to go there. I've already arranged a teacher for your make up class, starting from tomorrow."
"..."
Lara lowered her eyelashes and let out a light chuckle.
After laughing, she looked up at him and said, "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it."
Avila furrowed his brow. "What do you want to say?"
She pushed her phone towards him. "Secretary Lennon's called. I answered it, and he said Bella is causing trouble in the US. She insists on undergoing surgery only if she can see you."
He picked up the phone and glanced at it, but didn't immediately speak.
Lara smiled knowingly. "If I'm not mistaken, the overseas branch you just mentioned shouldn't be far from Miss Cole's hospital, right?"
The man stared into her beautiful eyes and sarcastically said, his voice filled with hostility, "Lara, do you think I shouldn't care about whether she lives or dies, or is it best to let her die in the US?"
Her fingers on the table clenched into a fist, and her gaze gradually turned cold. "If I really had the power to let her die in the US, then I admit, I would really want her to die."
"Lara, say it again!"
"Are you sure?"
The air became still.
She gazed lightly at him, her eyes showing no emotion. "If you want to go find her, it's your freedom. I can't stop you, nor am I interested in stopping you. But spinning such a clumsy lie is quite ridiculous to me."
Releasing her clenched fist, she left behind imprints on her palm.
The pale crescent moon outside, Lara averted her gaze and got up to leave.
Avila, with a grim and handsome face, hesitated for a few seconds before catching up with her.
By the elevator.
Just as she stood still, he reached out from behind and grabbed her arm, pulling her around as he gritted his teeth and asked, "Why do you hate her so much?"
"Yeah, why do I hate her?" Lara winced, furrowing her brow as she looked at him. "Hating her, wasn't that something you imposed on me? I was just going along with what you said, isn't that enough?"
Regardless, even if she said she didn't wish for Bella's death, he wouldn't believe her. Even if she said she didn't hate her, he still wouldn't believe her. Since that's the case, she might as well just go along with him and admit it.
"Dare you say you don't hate her?"
Lara chuckled, a contemptuous expression on her face. "I think you might have gotten it wrong. Hate and dislike are not the same. I do dislike her, but as for hate, she's not worthy."
The man stared at her with emotionless eyes, chillingly cold.
For a moment, Lara almost felt like he might lose control and strangle her.
But in the end, he let go of her.
The elevator doors opened, and he walked in on his own, his eyes calmly glancing at her. "Aren't you coming in yet?"
"..."
After hesitating for a few seconds, she walked in and leaned against the wall, maintaining a distance.
During the ride, no one spoke, but people kept entering the elevator, separating them on both sides.
In the crowded elevator, Lara sadly thought that perhaps this was the most suitable distance between them.
She felt comfortable, and he was not tired.
Last night's tenderness, perhaps desire really influenced judgment.
The daughter of an enemy.
To him, this was a shackle, impossible to break free from.
Although he treated her so ruthlessly, Lara didn't hate him at all.
Considering things from his perspective, if she stood in his shoes today, she wouldn't necessarily be more merciful.
The elevator descended to the parking lot on the first floor, leaving only him and her.
With lowered eyelashes, Lara sensed the man's gaze on her. Slowly raising her eyelids, before seeing his eyes, she was pulled into his embrace... and he kissed her.
Aside from the initial surprise, she had gradually grown accustomed to him, whether he kissed her when he was content or when he wasn't.
Just let him kiss.
If she couldn't refuse, then she could only comply, at least allowing herself some pleasure.
The man's kiss was always dominant, pinching her chin and forcing her to open her mouth, inch by inch invading, making it difficult for her to breathe, and numbing her lips.
Avila's kisses, every time, were as crazy as the last time, easily engulfing all of her rationality and thoughts.
When the kiss ended, she found herself standing outside the elevator, leaning against the wall, taking deep breaths of fresh air like someone who had just experienced drowning.
His breathing was also erratic as he leaned over, pressing his forehead against hers, his voice husky. "I'll be back soon and won't delay the wedding. After her surgery, I promise you, I won't see her again."
"..." She blushed.
His face was still a little fuzzy, and his voice carried an unaware hint of coquetry, "Who knows if you're telling the truth or lying."
The man chuckled lowly, gripping her waist and pressing her against the wall, kissing her more passionately.
In the end, Lara was carried back to the car by him because her legs were too weak to stand.
On the way back, he forcibly made her sit on his lap, resting her head on his shoulder, in a close and intimate position.
Lara's heartbeat was racing.
Avila glanced at her with a smile, "Your heart is so restless, what are you thinking about?"
She licked her lips and covered her eyes with her hand, "Don't speak."
She felt a bit embarrassed.
Just as they were indulging in a lingering kiss at the elevator, a group of people walked out of it.
They were being watched, but instead of letting her go, the jerk kissed her even more shamelessly. Eventually, it was the onlookers who felt embarrassed and voluntarily left.
He completely disregarded everything and only released her when he was satisfied, then carried her to the car.
Shame doesn't seem to exist in his eyes.
Lara covered her eyes, her gaze falling on the man's thin lips, her face flushed like she could fry an egg.
