Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Unveiling the Truth
The days that followed the accident left Vedika feeling a mix of frustration and exhaustion. Each day, she juggled the demands of her personal life and her relentless pursuit of justice for Sana. Despite her efforts, every lead seemed to vanish into thin air, every door closed just when she thought she might finally have a breakthrough.
It wasn’t until she reached out to Pranav for help that things started to fall into place.
Pranav Singh, her old college friend and the SP of the city, had been a constant pillar of support throughout the case. While Vedika’s instinct and dedication guided her, Pranav’s authority and experience as a law enforcement officer allowed them to push through barriers that otherwise would have blocked her at every turn.
They sat together late one evening at Pranav’s office, surrounded by files, photographs, and documents that detailed every piece of Sana’s case. The quiet hum of the fan was the only sound as Vedika leaned forward, scanning the new information they’d gathered.
“I think we’ve been looking at this all wrong,” Pranav said, breaking the silence. “Sana’s case isn’t just about a random group of men. There’s something personal about it — something deeper.”
Vedika’s brow furrowed as she looked at him. “What do you mean?”
Pranav opened a file and flipped it open to a page marked with a red stamp: Confidential Investigation Report. The report was from a local college that Sana had attended just a few months prior to the attack.
“From what I gathered, one of Sana’s college mates, a guy named Arjun Patel, had developed feelings for her,” Pranav explained, tapping the paper. “He tried to confess to her, but she rejected him. It’s not a huge deal, right? But the problem was that Arjun wasn’t the type to take no for an answer. He had a group of friends, all part of a gang with questionable activities. From what we’ve been able to gather, these guys didn’t take rejection well. They planned the assault in retaliation for Sana turning Arjun down.”
Vedika blinked in surprise, the pieces finally starting to come together. “So, this wasn’t a random attack?”
“No. It was personal. Arjun couldn’t handle the rejection, and his friends followed his lead. They went after Sana, not just because they were drunk or angry — but because they felt entitled to her,” Pranav said, his voice heavy with disgust.
Vedika’s heart sank as she absorbed the truth of it. The injustice of it all was suffocating. Sana wasn’t just a victim of a crime; she was a victim of a culture of entitlement and violence. The rage inside Vedika boiled over, but she had learned long ago to keep her emotions in check. Now, the case was more than just about finding the perpetrators. It was about exposing a system that allowed this kind of behavior to thrive.
Pranav leaned back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest. “We’re going to take them down, Vedika. It’s not going to be easy, but we’ve got a strong lead now. Arjun and his friends are going to pay for what they did.”
Vedika nodded, her resolve hardening. “We need to move quickly. I’ll gather everything we have, and we’ll go public with it. Sana deserves justice, and so do all the other women out there who’ve been silenced by men like Arjun.”
Pranav met her eyes, his expression serious. “You know the next step. We need to build a strong case and gather witnesses who can testify against them. I’ll have my team handle the investigation while you continue with the legal side. Let’s make this happen.”
As Vedika made her way home later that evening, her mind raced with the weight of the new information. Arjun Patel — a man scorned by rejection, now the face of the violent entitlement that had ruined Sana’s life. She couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger at the thought of him and his friends thinking they had the right to take justice into their own hands, as if their twisted feelings were justification enough for destroying a young woman’s life.
When she reached her apartment, she stood in front of the mirror for a moment, allowing herself a brief moment of weakness. She was exhausted. The case had drained her mentally, physically, and emotionally. But this was far from over. Sana needed her — the victims of such crimes needed her — and Vedika would not rest until they had their justice.
Her phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was Pranav again.
“Vedika, I need you to stay alert,” Pranav said, his voice tense. “I’ve been following up on Arjun’s background, and we’ve discovered something else. He’s not just a college dropout with a bad temper. He’s been involved in a number of shady deals with some of the city’s worst criminals. His connections run deeper than we initially thought.”
Vedika’s eyes narrowed. “This isn’t just a crime of passion, then. This is about power, influence… and control.”
“Exactly,” Pranav confirmed. “This is bigger than we anticipated. Arjun isn’t just a kid with a crush. He’s part of a much larger problem. And the more we dig, the more dangerous it becomes. Be careful, Vedika.”
Vedika’s mind raced. If Arjun was connected to the city’s most notorious criminals, then they were dealing with more than just a simple assault case. They were up against an entire criminal network that would do anything to protect its members, including making sure no one ever discovered the truth.
Her thoughts shifted to Abhimaan Rathod. She hadn’t heard from him in a while, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was somehow tied to all of this. His influence and power were everywhere in this city. She wondered whether he had any connections to Arjun or his gang. After all, Abhimaan never let anyone slip through his fingers — and it wouldn’t surprise her if he was somehow involved in this mess.
But Vedika pushed that thought aside. She couldn’t afford to be distracted. This case was too important.
The following days were spent gathering testimonies, collecting evidence, and putting together a case that would hold up in court. Vedika and Pranav worked tirelessly, their partnership stronger than ever. Every new piece of information about Arjun Patel and his friends confirmed their suspicions. It was clear now — this wasn’t just a random attack. This was a premeditated assault that had been fueled by jealousy, revenge, and an ugly sense of entitlement.
Finally, after days of hard work, Vedika felt the surge of relief that she hadn’t felt in weeks. They were ready to take this to court.
Sana’s justice was within reach.
