Chapter 128 A baby.
CHAPTER 128
A baby.
SCARLETT – POINT OF VIEW
I step out of the shower to texts from Adeline, ranging from On my way to Can you keep your voice down to Does he fuck that hard to We are downstairs.
My cheeks burn, and my eyes widen.
“Oh, my God.” I gasp in horror.
I show him the texts, and he chuckles, “You don’t have to look so scandalised. We are getting married soon, after all.”
I roll my eyes and hand him the phone. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I have hickeys all over my neck, shoulder and cleavage. I like it. I like being marked. I like the fact that everyone knows who I belong to. Deep down, I hope Elena heard us, so she can shove all her stupid questions where the sun doesn’t shine.
I pull a dress from the hanger, and hear my phone beep.
“Is that Adeline again?” I smile.
He isn’t smiling. He is frowning, jaws clenched. “No, it’s not. It’s Percy. How did he get your number?”
I flush at his accusatory tone and try not to bristle. “I don’t know. He called yesterday. What did he send?”
He hesitates for a second before speaking. “It’s an address. A restaurant and a time, ten am.”
“A bit ambitious.” I scoff, wondering why Percy thinks I’ll say how high if he asks me to jump.
“Why’s he texting you this early?” Roman asks, doing his best to keep the jealousy out of his voice.
“I don’t know, Roman. He probably just wants to talk about the past and reconnect.” I mumble, ignoring the heat rushing through me.
“Try not to get too stuck in the past, then, my love, and remember that I am your present and future.” Roman drops the phone, cups my face, and kisses me softly.
I melt against him like butter, threading my fingers through his soft hair, “You are my everything, Roman.”
He nods and kisses my forehead.
He steps back and says, “I have meetings lined up back-to-back today. The restaurant isn’t too far from my office. Do you want to meet up for lunch later?”
I nod, smiling, “Of course.”
We spend the next thirty minutes getting ready. He zips me up, and I fix his tie. I cannot keep a cheesy smile off my face. I feel like a fool, but I am done panicking about what I cannot control. Roman is here, and so am I. I feel deeply for him, and I might as well enjoy the time I have with him. He is important to me. He is everything.
We walk downstairs.
Eve and Adeline are on the balcony, smoking.
Luca is in the kitchen.
Rick is by the door, acting more like a bodyguard and less like Eve’s boyfriend, but I guess those roles are interchangeable.
“Well, if it isn’t Ms morning sex.” Adeline scoffs, looking at me, eyes flashing.
I flush and flip her off, “What do you want? What are you even doing here this early?”
“It’s past nine.” She rolls her eyes, and I nod, “Exactly.”
Eve walks to me and kisses my cheek, “Your pictures came. Where will you hang it?”
I glance at Roman, and he shrugs, “Bedroom, of course, and I’ll need one for my office.”
“Consider it done.” Eve nods at him, and I watch her go.
We haven’t been as close as we used to be lately. She has been busy with work, and I have been swamped with figuring out Emiliano’s next move, as well as his spies. It’s hard to balance everything at the same time. It’s rocky at the moment, and I hope to find an equilibrium very soon.
“Are you ready? We have places to be.” Addie asks me, and I frown.
“You’re leaving?” Eve looks at us, something flashing over her face.
“We are going shopping, painting the town red.” Addie nods, with a grin.
“I wasn’t aware of this,” I say with a sigh.
“You are, now. Come on.”
I turn to Eve, “Maybe you and I can do something tomorrow? A spa date? Just us? We can go to that French restaurant you like.”
She shakes her head, “I have to get to the studio, and I have meetings. I have to get on a call now, so another time.” She waves me off and walks up the stairs.
I chew on my lip, watching as Rick stares at her, almost obsessively. I chose to believe it is love. I also chose to believe Eve will tell me if something is wrong. She wouldn’t keep something from me, right? I know how hypocritical I sound, but Eve is my sister. Family is more than blood, and soulmates are not just lovers.
Luca grabs his wife’s wrist and pulls her to the dining table. He places a plate full of food and orders, “Eat.”
She glares at him, but doesn’t argue.
Something is obviously going on with them.
I’m throwing my hair in a bun when Roman walks up to me. He hands me my phone and says, “You should respond to him. We can all leave together. I’m sure Adeline can keep you busy until ten.”
I nod and kiss him softly. This is killing him, but he is being supportive and considerate. Consideration is the highest form of love after all.
Twenty minutes later, we walk out, get in the car and begin our journey to the city.
Addie and I are in the backseat. We have two cars behind us and two ahead of us. Luca isn’t taking any chances.
“Care to tell me why your husband is being so jittery?” I ask, frowning.
“Ignore him.” She shrugs.
“Addie,” I persist.
She sighs, “We have been married for a couple of months now and have decided to start trying for a baby. It’s tradition, culture and necessary.”
My mouth falls open in shock, “What?”
“Don’t look so surprised.” She rolls her eyes.
“Do you want a baby?” I ask.
She counters, “Do you want a baby?”
My heart skips a beat when Roman looks back.
