Chapter 124 You've never been hard to find.
CHAPTER 124
You’ve never been hard to find.
SCARLETT – POINT OF VIEW
“Get up, Scarlett.” She says firmly, and I nod.
I wipe away my tears and brace myself for whatever lies waiting for me on the other side of the door.
I am tired of being looked at as the villain all the time, but this is the reality I chose, and it is time I stop my whimpering and make the best out of the situation.
“Percy is here for a reason,” Addie states, and I look at her.
I wipe the tears from my face and nod, “You don’t think he’s here for the teaching job? Why else will he be here?”
“I guess that’s what we have to find out, and to do that, you have to get close to him. Play your game well, and watch your back. Emiliano has been holding back for a while now, and I know he is going to make his play soon. Even if we don’t find whatever your Dad gave you, we need something, and we might need to bring in the men.” She speaks silently.
My eyes widen, and my heart stutters to a halt, “Bring them in? R … Roman?”
She nods, “Yes. I know it’s not easy for you, but Luca is the Don of La Cosa Nostra; he knows I’m hiding something and is just giving me time to come to him myself. They are our best shot at winning this.”
“Luca is our best shot, not Roman. Roman is just a billionaire, not a fighter.” I point out, and get up. I walk to the sink and wash my face.
“But he fought for you.” She points out. “We can be whatever versions we need to be for the people we love.”
I scoff and meet her eyes through the mirror, “He does not love me. You cannot love who you do not know.”
“Don’t be so sure, Scarlett.” She gives me a small smile, “Now, let’s go. I’m sure they are looking for us already.”
I inhale slowly and chew on my bottom lip. I do not think I want to see what is waiting for me outside this door. I don’t want to look at Damian, Luca, Caleb or Elena after their allegations. I don’t want to speak to Roman. I just want to go home, to our home, soak in the pool and do absolutely nothing. I want a quiet evening, and it’s within my grasp.
I nod, and we walk out.
As expected, we find the men there, waiting for us.
“Luca and I will stay in the hotel in Manhattan. We can meet for drinks tomorrow.” She smiles and slips away from me.
I nod and watch her pull her husband away, leaving me with the one I have to marry eventually.
“Hi.” He says cautiously, looking at me, expecting a breakdown.
“I’m going home. You can come with me if you want. I’d prefer if you dismiss the security team for tonight, Rick, too.” I exhale, exhaustion slipping into my bones.
He narrows his gaze at me, curious, but he nods, “Then, let’s go home.”
First, we go to Eve. She sighs deeply when she sees me, and hands me a pair of dark sunglasses. I guess my sadness isn’t as hidden as I thought it was.
“Your pictures will be delivered in the morning. Sleep tight, my love.” She hugs me tightly, and I kiss her forehead.
Damian, Elena and Caleb join us.
“I’m sorry, Scarlett.” Elena apologises, and I nod, not paying much attention to her.
I want to go home. Roman notices my impassivity, and we say our goodbye. On the drive out, it’s impossible not to notice the armed personnel crawling all over. Luca and Addie are not taking any chances.
I turn away from Roman, looking out the window, letting the cold breeze fill me to the brim. This isn’t how today was supposed to go. Percy came from nowhere, and I know that Addie is right. His arrival is not just coincidental; there is a reason he is here, and I need to find out. I am done being reactive to my own life. I am done sitting in the backseat while people drive. I am going to take control of my life and make a difference. I just hope I can keep the nostalgia at bay long enough to get what I need.
Roman drives past the gates and parks in the garage.
He opens the car door for me just as my phone rings.
I frown at it and realise it’s a London number. Percy.
Roman watches me like a hawk. He does not speak. He already knows.
Instead, he turns around and walks away, giving me the privacy I need.
I pick up the call and walk towards the door.
“Rosalina, it’s Percy.” He says.
Shivers crawl down my spine, and I murmur, “It’s Scarlett now. Get with the time, Percy. How did you get my number?”
“You are not hard to find. You’ve never been hard to find.” He responds, amused.
“Yet, you arrive now. How convenient,” I roll my eyes, irritated, “What do you want, Percy? You crashed into my life less than two hours ago. Give me time to work through it.”
He laughs as if I just told a joke, and irritation flares deeper in me.
“Get to the point, or I end the call now. There’s a bath with my name on it.” I say blandly, kicking off my shoes.
I pick it up, lock the door behind me, and climb up the stairs.
“I want to see you, Scarlett.”
“I’ll think about it and let you know what my husband thinks.” I push open the bedroom door and step into the warmth. The bathroom door is ajar.
“He is not your husband yet.” He scoffs.
“I have his rings on my finger, not yours. Goodnight, Percy. Don’t call me again.” I end the call, and smile because it’s important to make them work for it.
I strip out of my dress and walk to the bathroom.
Romeo is in the tub, naked, and smiling.
“Come on, baby.” He smiles at me.
