Chapter 72 The damned ocean
There was silence in the room. The silence was mixed with both confusion and shock. She predicted the golden orb would be somewhere close by since everyone insisted she'd know where it was but never did she think it would be her.
She still didn't understand what Zariel meant by that statement but before Hazel could respond, a sharp knock echoed through the room.
“Hazel”?
Kael’s voice called from the other side of the door.
“We need to talk”.
He said, trying not to trigger whatever was inside her.
Hazel flinched but Zariel straightened their expression into something calm, and detached.
“Good, it's time to get the alpha to save his mate”.
Zariel smiled, bringing back a bit of Hazel's doubt.
The knock came again, firmer this time.
Hazel took a deep breath and opened the door.
Kael stood there, his face stretched with worry and exhaustion. His eyes scanned her quickly, as if looking for cracks.
“You're not Hazel, are you”?
He asked and Zariel smiled.
“What is it”?
Zariel asked and Kael moved closer.
“I don't know what you are or what you want but if you hurt her…”
“Ah ah ah…”
Zariel immediately stopped him, waving her hand in front of him, causing him to stop talking.
“We don't have the time for chit chats now, do we”?
She asked and smiled, walking past him.
“Let's go see the witch”.
She said as she walked away and Kael turned, surprised as to how she knew exactly why he had come.
“When Zariel got downstairs where Dona was, she looked at the witch who was surrounded by candles and the smell of herbs.
Miguel stood near the window, arms crossed, and his expression tense as he watched Hazel walk in. Seeing how she still looked very unbothered, he knew the real her wasn't back yet.
Dona looked up the moment Hazel stepped inside. Her plain white eyes looked directly at Hazel and she began breathing heavily.
“What… what an I seeing”?
As soon as she said that, she immediately knelt down and bowed before Hazel.
“What is a fallen as powerful as you doing in our presence”?
She asked and a part of Zariel's lips raised as she nodded in approval.
“You are one smart witch. You figured out who I was so quickly”?
Zariel asked and Dona raised her head to look at her again.
“How could I not? You are one who wasn't condemned yet is unrighteous. One who fought the demons to protect lower races.
One who offered his life and stood with the other few to protect the lesser supernaturals on earth”.
She said and Zariel smiled.
“She's good!! Hazel, did you hear that? Your witch friend is a keeper”.
She said, speaking to Hazel who was inside her head.
“If you care about the supernaturals, why are you doing this to Hazel".
Kael asked and Zariel turned to him.
“What do you mean? I'm not doing anything to her. She's my master, she freed me, so it's only right for her to find my body”.
Kael looked at Zariel with his brows creased.
“Are you some sort of genie”?
He asked and Zariel immediately looked offended.
“No!! I'm not bound or anything, I just need my body and everybody will be fine. She doesn't owe me wishes”.
She said and Kael looked like he was beginning to calm down.
It was like he could sense this being wasn't so dangerous.
He turned back to Dona and asked.
“What do we do? How can we get his body so he can come out of Hazel"?
He asked and Dona went silent, she was searching for an answer.
She stayed silent for a while before she spoke.
“Hazel has to into the damned ocean and bring his body out”.
She said and Kael tensed up again. There was no land creature who had gone into the damned ocean that ever came back alive.
“Don't worry alpha Kael, Hazel belongs to the ocean too. As long as she accepts her true self in the ocean, she will be fine”.
She explained, trying to ease his mind but he still looked worried.
“Why does it have to be her? And if she goes, how is she going to come back? Even the sea creatures in the damned ocean have never been seen on the surface”.
He said, showing his worry but Zariel turned and spoke.
“I'll go with her, you have nothing to worry about. I know you don't know me, but I promise to bring her back”.
Of course Kael couldn't trust her words. This is someone he just met who had possessed his wife and taken her body. How could he possibly bring himself to trust her with Hazel in the ocean?
“There is one more thing you must know alpha Kael".
Dona spoke again, drawing all of their attention.
“In three days, the kinetic power and force of her body will belong to only one soul”.
She said but Kael looked confused.
“What are you talking about? What does that mean”?
He asked, desperately eager for an answer.
“She only has three more days before her soul will evaporate and her body will permanently belong to lord Zariel".
Kael's eyes opened wide.
“You're saying… she might seize to exist”?
He asked and Dona nodded.
“The only option we have is getting his body back”.
She said and the room fell silent again.
“I'll go with her”.
Kael said but Zariel and Dona immediately refuted.
“No”!
“No”!
They both yelled as he was definitely not going to be able to survive it.
“You have to trust Hazel and believe she can do this.
You can't keep fighting her battles for her, she'll never win".
Dona said but Kael couldn't have that.
“So what do I do? Stay here and just wait? What if she never comes back”?
He asked, fear evident in his voice.
“I will”.
He heard Hazel speak and he slowly turned to her, sure it was her that was speaking.
Hazel moved closer to him and held his hand.
“I will come back Kael, just take care of Lucian for me”.
