Arya.
Tyler stood beside me, his presence a reassuring anchor in the midst of the solemn ritual. His hand found mine, as I glanced at him. I smiled squeezing his hand, as he caught my gaze, drawing strength from our connection as we awaited the elder's invocation.
I watched in awe as the elders began the sacrifice, their voices rising in unison to call upon the moon goddess. Her ethereal presence seemingly whispered through the rustling leaves and the gentle sway of the trees.
The clearing was illuminated by a soft, flickering glow, cast by the encircling candles that danced like fireflies in the night. Their scent mingled with the earthy aroma of incense, creating an atmosphere thick with reverence. In the center, a rabbit lay still, its fur a patchwork of brown and white against the earthy backdrop. My gaze lingered on the small creature, sympathy stirring within my chest.
"We call on you, moon goddess," the elder intoned. As if on cue, the clouds parted, revealing the luminous orb of the full moon, casting its radiant light upon us. It felt as though the very heavens had opened up to receive our offering.
My heart swelled with a mixture of gratitude and anticipation, my senses heightened by the primal energy that pulsed through the air. This was a moment of connection, a communion between our pack and the divine. I felt a surge of pride knowing that I was a part of something greater than myself, bound by tradition and duty to honor our goddess.
"Join us, oh mother, as we offer you a gift of sacrifice for returning your daughter to us," the elder continued. He took the rabbit and raised it high above his head, its fur shimmering in the moonlight like liquid silver. It was a humble offering, yet a symbol of our bond with the land and its guardians.
I watched as the elder's blade gleamed in the candlelight, a glint of silver against the darkness. With a swift motion, he sliced the rabbit's neck, a single crimson droplet falling to the forest floor like a sacred offering. The scent of blood hung heavy in the air, mingling with the fragrance of incense.
As the rabbit's lifeblood ebbed away, I felt a pang of sorrow mingled with reverence for the cycle of life and death, a reminder of the delicate balance that sustained our world.
With a final prayer, the elder offered the rabbit's body to the earth. I bowed my head in silent reverence, honored to be part of centuries of tradition.
As the ritual drew to a close, a sense of peace settled over the clearing, a tangible presence that seemed to emanate from the very earth itself. With a collective sigh, the pack members began to disperse, their faces alight with the glow of camaraderie and shared purpose.
Tyler hadn't let me take part in organizing the sacrifice or even leave the house. According to him, I was still recovering and still too fragile to go about offering things.
On getting home, I was surprised at all the lights and festive decorations that adorned Tyler's mansion. The air buzzed with excitement, and the aroma of something delicious lingered tantalizingly in the air.
"What's going on, Tyler?" I asked as I stepped out of the car.
His smile was infectious as he rounded the car to stand beside me, taking my hands gently in his. His touch sent a shiver down my spine, anticipation building within me like a coiled spring. "Come on," he said. "Let's find out."
His words held a promise of something exciting, and I found myself eagerly following him toward the grand entrance of his mansion. As we stepped inside, the lights flickered to life, illuminating the spacious foyer in a warm glow. Suddenly, the silence was shattered by the enthusiastic shouts of familiar voices.
"Surprise!"
I blinked in astonishment as the room erupted into cheers and howls. Confusion mingled with elation surged through me, my heart pounding with a mix of emotions. Before I could fully comprehend the scene unfolding before me, Natalie was already rushing towards me, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"Arya!" she exclaimed, enveloping me in a tight embrace. "I missed you so much!"
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I returned her hug, the warmth of her embrace washing over me. "I missed you too," I whispered.
Natalie chuckled, her laughter tinkling like wind chimes in the breeze. "You're ruining my makeup, Arya," she teased, pulling away to inspect her carefully applied mascara with a small mirror she pulled out from her purse.
I laughed, feeling the tension melt away in the familiarity of her presence. "You look beautiful anyway," I replied. "Did you organize all of this?"
"Guilty as charged, but it was Tyler's idea," she confessed, linking her arm with mine. "Come on, let's get you seated."
She guided me towards the dining hall, where a lavish feast awaited us. I found myself seated beside Tyler, his presence anchoring me amid the bustling celebration. As everyone settled into their seats, Tyler rose to his feet, a glass clutched in his hand.
Clinking his glass for attention, Tyler's gaze swept over the assembled guests before settling on me. His eyes held a depth of emotion that left me breathless.
He smiled and turned his attention back to the guests, his deep voice cutting through the chatter, drawing all eyes to him as he raised his glass.
"A toast," he declared, the words echoing in the grand hall, punctuated by the clinking of glasses. My heart fluttered at the sight of him, his gray eyes alight with determination and pride. Tyler had always possessed an aura of strength and authority, but in this moment, as he stood before his pack, he seemed even more powerful, more... irresistible.
I couldn't help but admire him, the way his dark hair fell in waves around his face, the way his muscles rippled beneath the fabric of his shirt. He looked so confident, so sexy, and I felt a surge of desire coursing through my veins at the thought that he was mine.
"To the moon goddess," he continued, "for granting us peace in our pack. Lauren and her father may have caused their fair share of trouble, but their banishment was long overdue."
The pack members chuckled in amusement at Tyler's words.
"For giving me the strength to fight for the love of my life," he went on, his gaze locking with mine, "my wife, our Luna," My heart skipped a beat at his words, at the intensity of his stare. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as I met his gaze, my breath catching in my throat.
"And keeping her safe for me," he added. In that moment, I felt a surge of emotion wash over me, overwhelming and intoxicating.
"And so," Tyler concluded."I raise this toast to our pack, our unity, our friendship, and to the love of my life, Arya."
The room erupted into cheers and applause, the sound reverberating off the walls like thunder. I felt tears prickle at the corners of my eyes as I met Tyler's gaze, his silent declaration of love sending a rush of warmth flooding through me.
"I love you, Little One," he mouthed, his words barely audible over the din of the crowd.
A lump formed in my throat as I whispered my response, my voice barely a whisper amidst the chaos. "I love you too," I murmured, and we we joined in the feast, surrounded by the love and warmth of our pack.
