Arya.
My heart raced, as Tyler's fingers tightened around mine. His warm touch offered reassurance, a silent acknowledgment of the weight we both carried. The Elders stood in a somber circle, their faces betraying nothing of the decision they were about to impart and my stomach curled in anticipation.
The leader of the Elders, a venerable figure with eyes that held the secrets of countless moons, stepped forward. His voice resonated through the stillness, demanding attention and silence among the pack. "As you all know, we gathered here to announce the verdict of the union between our Alpha, Tyler Lockhart, and his Luna, Arya, daughter of the moon goddess."
I felt Tyler's grip on my hand tighten incrementally, a silent exchange of nerves. The Elders began recounting the intricate process that had led them to this pivotal moment—the moonlit ceremonies, the sacred rituals, and the whispers of the wind that carried the spirits' guidance. My eyes remained locked on Tyler's, seeking solace in the connection we shared.
He spoke of the whispers of destiny and the threads of fate that bound us together. Each sentence seemed to elongate the seconds, drawing out the suspense until it became almost unbearable.
In the silent hush of the Rogue pack, I couldn't help but wonder about the actions that had led us to this point.
Tyler's love had become an undeniable force in my life. The possibility of our union being deemed incompatible sent shivers down my spine.
As the Elders delved into the mystical intricacies of our connection, my mind swirled with thoughts. Would the moon goddess smile upon our love, or am I fated for another? Tyler's gaze, intense and unwavering, mirrored the questions that lingered in my own mind.
The Elders' voices reached a crescendo, and the air became charged with a palpable tension. The moment hung suspended, as if time itself had frozen. The pack, united in collective anxiety, awaited the final pronouncement that would shape our destinies.
Finally, the leader's voice cut through the stillness, announcing the culmination of their deliberations. "After careful consideration and divine guidance, we, the Elders, declared that Tyler Lockhart and Arya, daughter of the moon goddess, were deemed a good match."
Relief washed over me, a tidal wave of emotions breaking the dam that held my composure.
The Rogue crowd erupted into jubilant cheers and exuberant howls, echoing through the forest in a celebration of our union.
"Yes, baby," Tyler's elation was contagious, and in his joy, he lifted me off the ground.
The world blurred around us as he spun me around, our laughter blending with the chorus of cheers from our pack. His lips found mine in a deep, passionate kiss.
"I told you, love," he whispered against my lips, his gray eyes glinting with happiness. "You're mine, and I, yours."
"Of course you did," I replied as I kissed him back passionately.
At that moment, amidst the cheers and howls of the Rogue wolves, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the stars that had aligned and the moon goddess who had smiled upon our love.
"Congratulations," Nate said, clapping Tyler's back. "That was a hell of a verdict. The suspense really gave me the chills, man."
"Is it usually like this?" I asked, still feeling the shock and nervous energy of the verdict.
"We've never really had a verdict before," Natalie said, hugging me tightly. "Congrats, Arya. I told you he was yours. I'm so happy for you, love."
"Thank you, Nat," I replied, hugging her back while trying to keep the tears in my eyes at bay. The weight of the trial, the uncertainty, and now this overwhelming joy were all a whirlwind of emotions.
"Hello, Arya," Lauren's voice interrupted our celebration. I turned to face her, my skepticism apparent in my gaze as I braced myself for her response to the verdict.
"I just came to say congratulations," she said with the same demure expression from before. "I'm really glad the verdict turned out great."
"Of course it did," Natalie retorted, her stance, protective. "Were you expecting anything different?"
"Of course not," Lauren replied with a small smile, her eyes darting between us nervously.
"I'm sorry about how my actions have affected you, Tyler," she continued, turning her attention to my mate, whose demeanor had hardened when he noticed her presence. "I know it's going to be difficult to believe that I'm a changed person. But please give me a chance to prove myself to you."
"You're right, Lauren," Tyler replied coldly, his eyes narrowing. "I don't intend on believing you so easily. But I might be willing to let you prove that you actually mean what you say."
Natalie scoffed at Lauren's attempt at redemption, her disbelief evident. "I don't believe you one bit," she said, an eyebrow raised in suspicion. "I'm also looking forward to your next scheme because I know there's one brewing in that brain of yours."
"Natalie, come on," I said as I touched her arms, silently telling her to calm down.
"I appreciate that you're happy for us," I said as I smiled warmly at Lauren.
"Thank you," Lauren replied, genuine gratitude in her eyes as she left us.
Nate, bewildered by Lauren's unexpected apology, voiced what we were all thinking. "Did she really mean that?"
Tyler, seemingly unaffected, shrugged. "We'll see."
"Hey, we're supposed to be celebrating," I reminded everyone, trying to redirect the focus away from Lauren's surprising actions. "Not analyzing Lauren."
Tyler on cue, pulled me into a deep, celebratory kiss. Just as we were lost in the moment, the leader of the elders interrupted us, his presence a stark reminder of the responsibilities we carried.
"Are you ready for the marking?" he asked. "It's a full moon tonight. Or would you like to postpone?"
My elation at the verdict was momentarily replaced by the seriousness of the moment. The marking was a significant step in our mating process, a bond that would solidify our connection.
"Please inform us when you choose a date for the marking ceremony," the elder added before stepping back. Tyler was my mate. I couldn't help the giddiness that I felt at that knowledge. Now about the marking–
"We don't mind doing it now," Tyler said before I had a chance to reply.
"We don't?" I laughed as I faced him, not surprised by his outburst.
"Yes, Little One," he replied as his eyes held mine intensely. "I don't mind marking you right now and then some."
As the leader of the elders left to prepare for the marking ceremony, I realized just how much I was in love with Tyler, and the prospect of the marking ceremony filled me with a mix of excitement and anticipation for the future.
